One of my all-time faves. Makes sense that it was Lennon's favorite Kinks song -- what a lyric.

I once read Lennon was at a pub and played this song over and over again. This would lead one to believe Lennon did like the song. And why not? This is a true gem. GSTK

John Lennon's favorite song by his own admittance. McCartney's favorite song, by his own admittance, was "God Only Knows" by the Beach Boys

Yeah Lennon was a big fan apparently. It does have a Lennon vibe to it, great song.

this song reminded lennon of his little son Julian.

He certainly did love it, I haven't heard the pub story but I can believe it. I can even imagine John singing it, pity he didn't cover it, but this is the version here.

It seems that John Lennon 's Beautiful Boy was inspired in some way by this great song

Of the top ranking rock bands in history it's funny how The KInks never made it in the US and The Doors in the UK. I adore them equally.

The kinks had a disastrous US tour in 1965 and were even banned from playing there again - google it

Although Lennon loved this song, Pete quaife (the bass player) hated it and was one of the reasons why he left the band in early 1969

He did not like this song, which was The Kinks 1st flop single, did not make the top 10 and he didn't like Days as well, so he quit in 1969, I love these songs
@KalypsoKent2 жыл бұрын
He didn't like "Days" either. How can one dislike "Days"? Maybe just tired of playing it in the studio.

Pretty sure they're just miming to the single. It was common practice on these shows back then to not have bands play live

The date at the beginning states November 1969, this is totally false from the fashions and background it is obviously early '68....
@KingpinTBM Жыл бұрын
Is there a stark difference between 1968 and 1969s fashion?
@dream-67 Жыл бұрын
@@KingpinTBM yes early 68 still had the neater looks and shorter hair of the mode era, late 69 had gone through the psychedelic hippy era.....plus this song was released early 68
@KingpinTBM Жыл бұрын
@dream Fascinating how fashion seemed to evolve so rapidly in the 60s. If you showed me a picture of someone in 2016 and another picture of a person in 2023 I don't think it'll be possible to determine the date of the photos using fashion alone. You'd need to look for technology to be able to tell.
@dream-67 Жыл бұрын
@@KingpinTBM yes you're so right I think young people now think anything pre-2000 was the same but of course we know differently (I grew up 80s-early 90s)
@KingpinTBM Жыл бұрын
@dream I'm 22 but have always loved music from the 50s-70s. My parents always played it so I grew up listening to it. I will admit most people my age (including my friends) think that music from before the 90s is "ancient". What I love about the 60s especially was the sense of freedom of expression and individuality. Most young lads in London now just wear all black or grey. Nothing but hoodies and tracksuits. I love how artistic and colourful people dressed back then.

Love the Kinks from beginning to end. But I never cared for this song at all. I preferred the flip side Polly. Anyway, they are just pantomiming. This song was the reason Pete Quaife left the band.

Is this a dig at John Lennon? Think about it? He's doing a scouse accent? Interesting.
