Great video Nick! I recently added the same Stolspeed Vg's to my Kitfox 4. I averaged about 5 MPH slower stall speed. My airplane is heavier with an NSI Subaru engine of about 98HP. While the slower stall speeds are great, the improved stability and control feel you mention is exceptional too. Also, we did not see any reduction is cruise or top speed. Finally, you should really add fairings to your wind struts. I got about 7 MPH increase in cruise and 9 MPG at full throttle when I deed them after initial flight test. Cheers! -Kirby

Adding the strut fairings is definitely on the list of things to do!

As an aviation and firearms enthusiast, I can't help but ask about the pistol on your hip. Can you share a bit more about that? What it is, why you have it, what certification was required to allow you to carry it? If you were from the US, I'd hardly bat an eye but it appears you're in South Africa and I'm not familiar with the gun laws down there. I'm over in Canada by the way and I both fly and shoot but sadly we're not allowed to carry our pistols around here and we can only shoot them at the range.

Lets start with the firearm. The one I'm carrying in the video is a CZ P07 Duty and is one of a few that I own. Our firearm laws are very similar to those in Canada, in terms of licencing the weapon. However we have a self defense law that states we may licence a dedicated firearm for the use in self defense, as well as use any legal firearm for lawful defense in an unlawful attack on life. The sad reality here is that, it is a necessity to have a self defense pistol on you as we have a high rate of violent crime!

Thanks for the reply. I'm so glad you guys are allowed to carry with the crime rate that you have. Our crime rate appears to be climbing and yet all the government wants to do here is take even more of our guns away. It makes no sense.

@@mmatt our government are trying to take guns away. But we have so many illegal firearms floating around, with most illegal firearms coming from "lost" police weapons all that will happen is there will just be more illegal firearm owners

I was monitoring the situation in South Africa this last winter and Spring. Las I heard was Clean water is at a premium and food may be in short supply soon due to the Government confiscating farm property with no compensation.

Hi Nick, I have an Avid Flyer Stol version and I plan to install VGs. Stol speed recommend 7-8% of the main chord without flaps, but you use 3% of the chord. Could you tell me what this choice? Thanks in advance. Olivier
@NicHolmes5 жыл бұрын
Im going to point you over to Alex Di Sessa and his video on VG placement (link is in the description) for the kitfox wing. That is what I based my installation on. I also started out with the 7-8% as recommended

Hi Nic, some friends and I are wondering if your wing is undercambered? We are a community of 20 Avid flyers in France, trying to improve flight characteristics... Your plane is a Kitfox 4 stol wing? Thanks in advance and be safe... Olivier.
@NicHolmes4 жыл бұрын
The kitfox4 wing is a STOL wing correct and does not have the high lift under camber that the earlier Avid and Kitfox 2 had. The under camber wing has high lift coefficients but that affects STOL and top end cruise

You’ve shamed me into doing it! Just gotta double check the regs for my E-LSA... I am going to finish my 5 hours of Phase 1 flight test today due to the new prop I just installed -don’t feel like doing 5 more for VG’s!
@NicHolmes5 жыл бұрын
I'm pretty sure you dont need to do 5 hours phase flying for VG's but your regs may differ from ours
@JeffreyRubicon5 жыл бұрын
Nic Holmes - I hope you’re correct. The regs are pretty restrictive over here when it comes to LSA’s...
@NicHolmes5 жыл бұрын
@@JeffreyRubicon where are you? They trying to restrict us here more and more, trying to implement same regs as certified aircraft...

Nic Holmes The USA. Honestly, I really appreciate the FAA. I’ve worked closely with them throughout my entire career and every problem encountered eventually gets resolved. The whole LSA thing is a bit tricky but that’s mostly due to me and my lack of familiarity with this end of the aviation spectrum.

Where did you order from and how many did you buy?
@NicHolmes5 жыл бұрын
I ordered the full kit which is 120 wing VG's and 80 tail VG's. Ordered them from STOL Speed in Australia
