This looks like the knights that they are always calling templars in movies, but are clearly not.

Yeah, sometimes hollywood uses the wrong iconography for crusades era stuff. Its a symptom of the disease of them not understanding the crusades at all.
@midshipman8654 Жыл бұрын
they could be confused with the royal banner of the kingdom of Jerusalem which the knightly orders often fought alongsides. since its the same but gold/yellow

So why did Philippe 1V not go after these military knights. He went after the Templars.
@ParryThis3 ай бұрын
Because he went after the Templars to steal their money and properties, and to reduce the power of the church in France. The Knights of the Holy Sepulchre didn't have what he wanted.

Thanks for the vid. What sources did you use? The stuff I can find isn’t as detailed
@ParryThis3 жыл бұрын
That's because i had to use a ton of sources to piece all of this together. It is taken from well over a dozen sources, seven of which are books that i own personally. There is not much info out there regarding the history of this order, at least not in comparison to many of the other knightly orders.

Does anyone know why the borrowed Georgian flag? I couldn't find any relation online.
@ParryThis3 жыл бұрын
I do not know. Flags are not my area of expertise.
@crisanister51312 жыл бұрын
Not the Georgian flag, the crosses are different. It's a variation of the flag of the kingdom of Jerusalem, with red crosses instead of gold.
@brettervonkanada61022 жыл бұрын
@@crisanister5131 A red 5 cross flag was Georgian since 6-7th century (4th century according to some sources) and by the time the order was formed. Kingdom of Jerusalem adopted a 5 cross banner after Georgians built 2-3 churches in Jerusalem between 1150-1190 (later with Ayyubid permission) and the Georgian flag was the only flag displayed there (also with Ayyubid permission). Since that was the only Christian flag displayed, Kingdom of Jerusalem adopted it every time it was not under Arab rule. Another important fact is that after 1054, Catholic countries/churches/orders were prohibited from using Orthodox symbols and a red 5 cross flag was clearly Orthodox symbol. Jerusalem used gold to make the flag their own and claim that it's not St. George's crosses being used. Even the English were under pressure from the Pope around that time since they used St George's flag (although they never complied). How this order is using the red banner is basically reverting the changes that Kingdom of Jerusalem made to make the flag more original, therefore borrowing a Georgian flag.

@@brettervonkanada6102 6-7th century there was no Orthodox/catholic so I think its fine because if it was ok before schism then it is ok after schism
