Had surgery on my nose and throat for sleep apnea as an adult. While under full anesthesia the surgeon learned that my airway nearly completely closed while so relaxed. So he took out my tonsils as well. This procedure of the tubes and packing was left for longer than ther next day. Don't remember how long. But my mother died unexpectedly right before my surgery and in passing the surgeon said to me: "oh, don't cry while these are in. It makes the area swell". Yeah, that was rough.

I had it done many years ago - the Dr scrapes your sinuses while you are under anaesthetic which causes bleeding so nose plugs are put in. These has to come out the net morning as scares will form and then it would hurt. I also had a grommet put in my ear drum in order to allow the middle ear to drain thereby equalising the pressure on both sides of the ear drum The grommet usually work it way out after a few day. I could not only hear but smell much better. But we had to pull out the cotton wool ourselves and I nearly fainted - especially when it got suck. I did not realise just how much can get up that nose.

I had rhinoplasty surgery, they put these stents and gauze in the nasal passages to assist in drainage, keep area dry etc. A day or two after surgery; these are removed to assist wound healing and reduce swelling. Trust me, it hurts like hell. In South Africa, back in the day when I had my surgery, they didn't give local anaesthesia. They just pulled it out. Blood runs down the back of your throat and it makes you nauseous, so for me it was better to bend my head forward.
