Our family also have one in our possession for over 70 yrs, the sword was not in great shape anymore rusted inside the cabinet on our ancestral house in Busbus jolo

You should consider getting it restored. Such an old heirloom must certainly have a long history. Who knows how much history it has...

The kriss sword were heavy because past, they Filipino were paddle boat everyday and because the paddle were heavy it make them suitable to use the kriss sword. Also it was medium size because it make more easy to carry out in the jungle.

Filipino and malaysian got their own version of kriss sword... Malay and filipino combine straight and curved blade.. But Indonesian especially javanese kriss sword they have curved blade all the way to the tip.. I read some history book the curved nature of the blade are better..

@@VeganJutsuWhat made the Kriss so deadly,is because they would quench the blade in poison when they built each one.

That's philopino Kris.. Indonesian especially Javanese Kris has thinner blade and at least consisted of three metals..

The wider side on the guard was taken from a crocodile's back. The shorter side of the guard is the face and trunk of an elephant.

Arigato sensei this is probably the first time you hear what our ancestors told us ..the kris sword you holding called fire soul sword from the bird man guardians of our bathala( the creator) supposed to be the handle should be replicate of head of bird and the design is fire that has soul if you holding up the wave in the body and single spear in the top this words is been lost to generation thanks to my ancestors from northern tribes of the Philippines if you dig deep we dance like birds ,we make boats with birds head to the tip or front and back, that's behind that's story of the swords called now javan kris ....and been said even in the Philippines is mindanao swords but false it's a datu or raja depends on the lineage and usually the chief or lakay or lakan used it
