@@lightningleaf23 The Beatles are the greatest but they were mostly a studio band, the las were more of a live band. The spent years in the studio. If the Beatles only had one record then they wouldn’t be nearly as acclaimed and if the las had more they would be more so. Lee never really got the chance (or wanted to put more music out). If he played his cards right the las could’ve been as big as stone roses or oasis. I think it’s fair to say he’s close the the songwriting ability of the Beatles. I reckon you could pick pretty much any of the las catalogue and if the Beatles were to play it, I don’t think anyone would be any the wiser. It’s all a matter of opinion really and personally I put lee in the same league.

@@lightningleaf23 it’s all a matter of opinion really. I think lee is very close. The first few Beatles records are pretty simple and they only started to explore more styles the more time they spent in the studio. They also had 21 studio albums so they wouldn’t be great songwriters if the didn’t switch up their style. The las had one so kind of hard to compare. I will agree that the las definitely aren’t better than the Beatles. However the las definitely trumps the Beatles solo work

For a very large percentage of other bands, this would have been their best and most famous song. For Lee Mavers, it was just one out of many that never made it to the recording stage. Wahay! I'm back again! Absolute classic - each listen (and there have been many) only tinged by thoughts of what could have been with tunes like this.

One of the most important bands Britain ever produced. The La's influence on the 90's Britpop era was huge abd this has always been one of there most underrated songs.

"Was it something I said?". No Lee, if anything it's what you didn't/couldn't say that makes your music all the more compelling... At least to me...

What if the line is actually: "Was it something?" I said, "or something in your head?"

Was it something I said, Something in your head, Get out of bed And get your fishin' net Head down to the bay, On my lonely way, Put out your love And you'll fill your fishin' net

Was it something I said? Is it something in your head? Get out your bed and Come fill your fishing net Down to the bay On my lonely way Put out your love And come fill your fishing net Put out your love And come fill your fishing net Put out your love And come fill your fishing net Was it something I said? Is it something in your head? Get out your bed And come fill your fishing net Wake up I'll say Our ship's in the bay Put out your love And come fill your fishing net Put out your love And come fill your fishing net Put out your love And come fill your fishing net Was it something I said? Is it something in your head? Put out your love And come fill your fishing net I shall obey On my lonely way Without your love And come fill your fishing net Put out your love And come fill your fishing net Put out your love And come fill your fishing net

Makes me realise that, despite what Lee probably thinks about how it turned out on the album, his voice sounds even more gloriously joyous and melancholy with the echo and verb.

Think that's a quirk of the soundboard n mic setup but I brought it out intentionally as I think it works and adds soul. Glad you spotted it - it's a bit muted on the original but holy shit does it work
