I am a 20+yr HVAC master tech. I am in no way worried about my section of the labor force changing. At the end of the day a person who can turn a wrench and has mechanical aptitude combined with the technical knowledge in my trade will always have a job. Furnaces and air conditioners will always be here and will always need a skilled tech to work on them. Even the pandemic didn't give me a day off unless I needed it. Climate control is essential to survival in many places. Anyway GREAT VIDEO SIR! I enjoy your content immensely 👍

While it may be an over-simplification, a friend of mine says, “Skills pay bills.” I have even pointed out to my kids what you have pointed out here: the tradesmen are almost always working. I work with guys who are plumbers, electricians, builders, welders, mechanics; while they may see occasional relative slowdowns, they are almost always turning down work cuz they’re just too busy already

In the far off future that job will also probably be replaced by automation or be made unnecessary. You will probably be retired or dead before then though.

What zhyvaxxe pointed out though was the trade skills. Those are usually in high demand because they're necessary, but also because they're often in short supply. In the US there's been such a strong push towards college/university that people who, for whatever reason, don't feel that college/university is the right fit for them, can wind up never learning about trades or trade school when that may have always been the better fit. I suspect this is due to a cultural abhorrence of the dirty work that really shouldn't be there. Some people just plain prefer working with their hands or find that more satisfying than a desk job.

Great explanation Professor Dave! One thing I have always wondered...how does the Bureau know a person has "given up" looking for a job? Let's say I leave a job and do not qualify for or do not choose to file for unemployment benefits. Am I in the "given up" category until I file for Social Security?

So I was a full time premed student and worked full time as an RN. I would still have been considered in the labor force, right? Otherwise it’s odd that being a full time student means you’re not in the labor force.

Thank you for this. Been a really bad day professor Dave and I’ve been watching your medical shows because I’m going to Nursing I’m not sure if it’s moving effectively. @GamersInHellOnYt
@GamersInHellOnYt 3 жыл бұрын
I kind of agree with both of you. college itself is pretty worthless... The way its setup. Were forced to take classes and fullfil extra credits that have nothing to do with our major or interests. Pretty much barring students from graduation until they shell out more money... But if your trying to get into a quality field... I guess you would have more major classes that would fill those roles. So the credits needed to graduate would be completed naturally with few detours...

Americans agreed to spell it labor and the British agreed to spell it labour. Based on that one of is underlined as misspelled in my country, but someone in the other country would have the opposite listed as misspelled. Clearly Inigo is in the UK while Dave is in the US.

Here in south Florida, it is very hard to find employees. Young people also do not want to work hard and feel entitled. They want a piece of the business without investing after tax dollars and if business fails, they will just leave.
