About Author: Raymond Thornton Chandler (July 23, 1888 - March 26, 1959) was an American-British novelist and screenwriter. In 1932, at the age of forty-four, Chandler became a detective fiction writer after losing his job as an oil company executive during the Great Depression. His first short story, "Blackmailers Don't Shoot", was published in 1933 in Black Mask, a popular pulp magazine. His first novel, The Big Sleep, was published in 1939. In addition to his short stories, Chandler published seven novels during his lifetime (an eighth, in progress at the time of his death, was completed by Robert B. Parker). All but Playback have been made into motion pictures, some more than once. In the year before his death, he was elected president of the Mystery Writers of America
About the book: The Lady in the Lake is a 1943 detective novel by Raymond Chandler featuring the Los Angeles private investigator Philip Marlowe. Notable for its removal of Marlowe from his usual Los Angeles environs for much of the book, the novel's complicated plot initially deals with the case of a missing woman in a small mountain town some 80 miles (130 km) from the city. The book was written shortly after the attack on Pearl Harbor and makes several references to America's recent involvement in World War II.

Philip Marlowe was a complete stranger to me when I opened The Lady in the Lake more than 50 years ago. I don't know how many times I've read it since, but I've read every Marlowe novel and short story more than twice. His voice in this video is just about the way I imagined it when I was reading the book for the first time. The Lady in the Lake wasn't just my introduction to Chandler, it was the beginning of a lifelong love of prose noir. The next book I read after that one was Dashiell Hammett's The Thin Man. Since then I've read and reread all of Hammett's novels just as many times as Chandler's. From there I branched out into Jim Thompson, James M Caine and Loren D Estleman. It's been a long and rewarding journey. Edit: for anyone who loves this stuff I strongly recommend Raymond Chandler Speaking, a compilation of his correspondence. His thoughts on writing, writers, literature and cats make for a damn fine read.

Finally, a production that pays tribute to the brilliance of the original work! Chandler is so underrated in my opinion. Of course he's well known as a writer of "detective stories " but he really was just a fine writer of characters. And this audio production absolutely showcases his talent! I can't thank you enough for this. I have already listened to four or five times and I love to revisit it every 6 months or so, when it once again impresses me all over again! So subtle in the way it compresses the story - a key in any attempt to bring a novel to 'the stage' - and so effective in the sound effects and music which bring any story to life. Once again, hats off to you for this audio masterpiece!

@@MrBsbotto If you haven't already heard it, I bet you'd enjoy the audiobook of Chandler's The Big Sleep, the first of the Marlowe novels, superbly read by Elliott Gould. Unlike this excellent production, it's the full novel and it's more than six hours in length. kzbin.info/www/bejne/oIKYqoGMqKd_frMsi=0_TSrW87cpVHBOWU

yes, actually i am releasing the next handful of episode of philip marlow, i was expecting all the series to look alike, from tonight we are releasing 3 episodes every day, all are dramatized radio versions, hope you guys will like it. The new generation views seems to like the flashy thumbnails, thought i prefer the retro look, its very nostalgic. please keep on posting such suggestions. Love you all.

You say "full length audiobook". This is not an audiobook or full length but an abridged dramatization. The full length audiobook would be around 6 hours.

I agree that the book is better than any dramatization. In the book you get gems like this, "The clerk snapped at Degarmo’s back like a terrier. “One moment, please. Whom did you wish to see?” Degarmo spun on his heel and looked at me wonderingly. “Did he say ‘whom’?” “Yeah, but don’t hit him,” I said. “There is such a word. Degarmo licked his lips. “I knew there was,” he said. “I often wondered where they kept it.”

I would definitely remember your suggetions, but sometimes youtube algo suppreses the video due to too many words and gets confused. It prevents the video from reaching to right viewers who would appriciate the content. Moreover the generation has changed, very few people likes to listen to this old radio dramas, It gets hard for channel like our to survive and make livelyhood on this. We dont even ask for a coffee or wishlist. All we want you to enjoy watching our content, subscribe, turn on the notification and share with your friends and family. Amen. Merry Christmas in advance its December the month of Christmas Spirit.

To my taste that's a good thing. the movie disappointed me. The best way to get this story is by reading the book. There's a lot missing in this drama but it's still more true to Chandler than the movie.
