Let's take a look at Option-O's Lagom P64 Flat Burr Single-dosing High End Coffee Grinder.
ZERO RETENTION FOR MINIMAL WASTE - Specially optimised grind path and grinder design to help minimise retention, with RDT step being optional for most beans and use-case. Suitable for on-demand dosing without the need for purging.
ROBUST BUILT QUALITY - CNC-machined with P5-grade dual angular contact bearings and commercial-grade BLDC 300W motor for decades of service life. Motor is coupled to the grinding mechanism via flexible coupler to minimise vibration transmission to ensure grinder’s longevity and more accurate grinding results.

Same here. You are really paying for the solid T6 Aluminum body, SSP burrs installed and factory QC-ed, 300W BLDC motor w/ variable rpm, IT6 grade tolerance, P5 grade CNC bearings, and CMM test for all critical parts. I believe it is a fair price for those features at <10μm tolerance and <5μm flatness, that's what you call a piece of precision machinery! Not just a basic appliance. And I also believe the end result is the best you can get from 64mm with stability and longevity. Someone can totally buy a much cheaper grinder and be happy. But I don't think there's anything cheaper with the same features and level of build quality of P64.

I got the MP burrs and from the moment it starts grinding the beans, I can tell the smell of the dry powder alone is on a different league than my ZP6. And indeed, the resolution of the flavors is a huge step up. What's made it so amazing is that ZP6 is already one of the best hand grinders for light roast V60, it easily beats C40 and 1z k-series in my book.

Great review. I was all set to order one last month but after waiting years to get a legit espresso grinder, I wasn’t interested in waiting months to get one. I decided on an Olympia Express Moca SD instead and I’m very happy with it. I think they are probably quite comparable. I’m sure I would’ve been happy with either. Would love to see some reviews on the Moca SD, because there are really none out there.

Would be nice to see how to dial in with the P64 using the grinding size and/or the rpms!

Hi thank you for your content, for a home set up, do you recommend the Lagom p64 or the Mahlkonig E65s? or should I just go up to the P100 Lagom? I mostly to Espresso but also want have the option to do soe drip

I see the rpm dial as option-o trying to just let people remember a simple # instead of requiring people to understand the rpm. For example, if I have a P64 with SSP MP: #3-brew, #7-espresso. That's all I have to know regarding the rpm dial and it is also quick to read at a glance. In the manual, it tells you 7-9 would be ok for most uses and lower rpm might help with coarser settings. So as you mentioned, some may not even bother with the rpm, so they can just stay somewhere #7-9. But for those who really want to get the most out of the premium price they paid for, as you should if you're this serious about coffee. It also provides two small charts: A chart of actual rpm for each #; another chart of rpm and grind recommendations for each burr set.

Doesn’t have variable rpm and the brushless motor. Not a deal killer but those are notable differences.

The Zerno does offer vertical burrs with a pre-breaker auger, potentially superior alignment, blind burrs for greater cutting surface area, and a magnetically attached chute and anti-static ion generator for reduced mess and retention. The lack of variable RPM does seem like a big deal to me, as there is little evidence it effects cup quality much in flat burr grinders (it seems more helpful in conical grinders).

@@caffeinated_slacker agree what I think you mean, which is variable isn’t that big of a deal. Im leading towards zerno but they sold out so fast!

Yes, exactly, based on what I’ve been reading I don’t think variable speed is necessary. I was lucky enough to order a Zerno for August delivery. If you sign up on their email list you’ll be notified of the date of the next order window. The last time they took orders, they were only selling 250 grinders but the sudden traffic crashed the website. They sold out that day,

The older design is much better, you don't have screws to access the burrs.
