I was going to leave a comment mentioning that either you had a very tiny head or Thom's is absolutely massive! I've been on a workshop with you, Simon, so I know your bonce is standard. I can only conclude TH's head is the size of a water melon :) Great video, by the way. We should visit the Lakes more often...

I live near the Lake District. The area directly west of Keswick is good. North West of Cat Bells which is always mobbed with people because Cat Bells is easy to get to. Also near Keswick to the east is Castlerigg stone circle which makes for a great foreground subject but this place is also often mobbed so you have to wait for a space in the crowds. The Lake District can be very dreary weather and end up no good for photos but when the weather is right, it's a photographer's dream. Also near the Lake District is the Solway Firth. Quite a bleak location but often there are spectacular skies and great sunsets.

Hey mate, Just a quick question, iv been into photography for a few years now and I'm looking to upgrade my camera and lenses. i will be doing quite a lot of sport and wildlife photography so I'm looking at the canon 7d mark ii, 24-105 f4, 70-200 f4 is, but will be doing a bit of landscape photography as well, will the 1.6 crop factor of the 7d be too much for a 16-35mm for a wide angle lens, so it would just end up being like a 25-55mm, so i was thinking maybe a 10-22mm? or i just upgrade to a 5d mark iii? whats your thoughts? thanks

I’m really liking these A Photographer’s View videos. My biggest regret about moving back to Canada from the UK last year was that I never got to see the Lake District. I was in Guildford and never had the opportunity to make it up north. One day I’ll return, and thanks to you guys I know where I’ll head to now. At least for the moment I have Banff National Park here in Alberta to satisfy my landscape photography needs - Moraine Lake, Lake Louise, kananaskis country, etc. Thomas, have you ever thought about coming to Canada for landscape photography? I think you would enjoy the scenery. Please keep these videos up. They are terrific. Cheers.

Great discussion. Since immigrating, it is the Lake District (and real ale) I miss the most. I was not aware that they are now charging to park at trailheads. A great introduction to the Lake District is the Cumbria Way which goes from Ulverston to Carlisle. The last time I hike that was in the late 1990s. Apart from the first day, it was sunny and hot (25+ degrees). This was July. The only people I saw along the way was the occasional farmer and one to two sheep (well ok, one or two million sheep). It is an easy walk that should take about 6 days. Thanks once again for a great video and for making me feel homesick.

From memory legal wild camping is limited to no more than three nights in the same place,100 meters from any main road and you must leave no trace that you were there. I'm off to the Lake District starting early July for a week and a half. Not ideal I know, but it's the only time I can go this year. Oddly enough the place I'm most looking forward to seeing and photographing is the valley seen looking North from Dale Head that is immediately to the West of the one you're talking about.Maybe I'll get both done on the same day,if not it's not too far from where I'm staying near to Ambleside.
