The Lake under the Lake. Owey Island Donegal

On the Island of Owey there are two lakes, the first is on the clifftops and is easily walked to, the second lake is 50 metres directly below the first lake.
In this short film Iain Miller, descends to the lower lake and paddles to its far end to the Pool of Tranquility. This 8 meter pool lives approx 200m underground at the far end of the lower lake. It sits in silence and in complete darkness with no natural light.

Thanks for sharing the video. I never knew it was there. Few questions if you don't mind. 1: Obviously some training in climbing would be of benefit, but would it be recommended for a reasonably healthy armature without any specialist equipment? 2: When you first enter the part where it's a tight squeeze, does it open up fairly quickly, or is the whole decent a constricted space?

Its brine. fed from the lake above down the sink and a trickle feed from the sea through the boulder choke at the sea end.

Its a mini river at the mo but in summer its a bit loose and very muddy at the bottom
