Jovan is clearly a Pelinka and DLo hater. I don’t always agree with Andy, but he was the adult in the room throughout this discussion while Jovan sounded more like a petulant, disgruntled child who didn’t get his way. IMO, the idea of bringing Dinwiddie back was asinine, especially if it meant stalling the development of Dalton Knect who has a much higher ceiling. As Pete, with Laker Film Room, masterfully pointed out, the Lakers need another 5 or wing to rebound, block shots, and cut down on 2nd chance points - NOT another guard like Dinwiddie or Gary Trent Jr. It’s great that Andy was a voice of reason on this episode, especially for Laker fans to hear. Jovan didn’t do himself any favors on this video.

@jovanbuha3 ай бұрын
It could certainly work. My one fear is that you’re still asking one of Rui/LeBron/DLo to guard a good perimeter player (most good teams have at least two) and that might be asking a bit too much, depending on the matchup. But I think the group works offensively and at least has more size and good rebounding defensively.

Outside of trading for a center like Walker Kessler or Wendell Carter Jr, I think Bruce Brown should be the Lakers' 2nd priority. Lakers top 2 needs are a center and a defensive stopper. We clearly cannot rely on Vanderbilt to stay healthy. Bruce Brown needs to be a Laker.

Is it time for Rob Pelinka to decide which hat to wear? As the GM of the 2020 NBA champions LA Lakers, Pelinka has worked in that role for seven years having joined the Lakers in 2017. Before then he was an NBA sports agent, working for 21 years representing such players as Tracy McGrady, Kwame Brown, and of course Kobe Bryant. As an agent, he worked for SFX Sports Group. You might say he cut his teeth while working there, as that was his first job upon graduation in 1996 with a law degree from University of Michigan Law School, according to Wikipedia. His time as Lakers GM has been ... well, marked by extremes. On the one hand, he won a championship; but on the other, he traded for Russell Westbrook. He signed players like Caldwell Pope and Malik Monk, but hired coach Darvin Ham. Nevertheless, perhaps the biggest charge against his tenure as GM is he keeps "missing around the edges." What that means, in part, is he's making too many contract blunders. He signed Reeves and Horton Tucker to three-year, player-friendly, rookie contracts when he could have signed them to team-friendly four-year contracts. He signed Cam Reddish and Jaxson Hayes to two-year contracts with the second year being player options when he could have possibly gotten those players with second-year team options. The problem that Pelinka seems to have is he is signing contracts like a GM, but he is negotiating them like a player agent. Habits are hard things to break, especially when you are not aware you are operating out of habit. Add intense emotions around actions that become habits and those habits take on the guise of a puppeteer jerking your strings from the background. As a fresh-out-of-law-school young man, Pelinka undoubtedly tackled his first job with gusto and excitement, creating life-long habits along the way. Those habits likely served him well wearing the hat of a sports agent, but they are working against him wearing the hat of a GM, especially if he has yet to realize he is being jerked around by the man behind the curtain -- himself.

Your thoughts on Pelinka’s decision NOT to trade THT back then for Lowry? Another one WHY DID PELINKA have to BLOW up the championship team of 2020? Thoughts on drafting JSH. I’m not against DLo in the way some people think. I just think: 1) Austin is better and 2) DLo is problematic in certain playoff matchups (like Denver). I don’t think those are controversial opinions (even if you think DLo is better, I think it’s relatively close either way). But I think DLo is good and was important last season. For a good 2-2.5 months, I thought he was their third-best player and outplayed Austin. I just think Austin brings more defensively, has a higher floor as a player and has a better contract. But that doesn’t mean I’m anti-DLo. I see his value.

@jovanbuha well actually I'm glad u said that would u believe that dlo defensive rating was better then Austin reeves last year so let's do the math Russell was better in points...assist...and defensive rating so again how is Austin a better player I agree with the contract point which is fair but they basically was equal in defense and dlo is a way better offensive player and play maker and better 3 point shooter and performed better over all in the playoffs against Denver so the fact u kno basketball so well which u do and think Austin is the better player all I can ask is how 🤔 I mean we all think dlo is right under a Allstar level u think Austin gone be a Allstar anytime soon ?

I wonder if having Grant's expiring contract would be a good thing in 3-4 years since trades are much easier to make than signing free agents these days.

Grant’s contract is only 19-21% of the cap and 16-17% of the luxury tax over the next four years. JG would be the 3rd best player and would only take up 16% of the luxury tax, that is a gray fit.

Best path forward is trading AD and Reaves while they have maximum value. This is not a championship level team. Get some young guys and picks, if LeBron wants to stick around fine, we don’t have our own first round pick anyway. Simply, the Lakers roster, LeBron and AD, top 10 players in the NBA, then the rest including DLo, Rui, and AR are play in team level in the West. The Lakers need send 2~3 players and get a genuine star. This star isn't just for now but also the future when Lebron retires. Also, by sending 2~3 players, make roster spots. The best way to get a star would be DLo's contract, Gabe's contract and/or AR's value. It probably won't happen, but the best trade I could think of would be Steph or Dame and give up DLo, Gabe, AR, and/or Rui.

@Oberonz13 ай бұрын
This was great, but its quixotic, you are waxing poetic beautifully on where the lakers should have made a move or who they should be looking at, but at the end of the day this is a holy mess. Lakers front office is woefully bad at foresight, woefully bad at cap management, woefully bad around the league with players and agents including Klutch. Lakers are woefully bad at player relations, they have at least 7 guys who don't feel they are really wanted. That is ridiculous for a team who is trying to create a culture where players are developed for the long term. They are woefully indecisive and have a woefully over inflated sense of entitlement. Nobody wants any player they have and nobody wants to help them do anything like a trade. Tough decisions then must be made. DLo must go, im a Cam Stan and I know he got to go too, bite the bullet already and get both off this team. DLo is the epitome of the really bad idea that almost makes sense. Please get him off this team by any means possible.
I don’t think we need to trade anybody man. With horrible coaching we had 47 wins leading to the 7th slot. Jaxson Hayes got too many DNP’s/litte minutes, barely seen Max Christie, Vando was out pretty much all year, Reddish before his injury was top 10 in steals and wasn’t himself last half of season, and Gabe was out all year. We upgraded to a more competent all around coaching staff all the players will be healthy and most importantly we build continuity. With all that I believe we have what it takes to win I think people are overreacting to our bench. D’lo, AR, Vando, Bron, AD Gabe, Max, Reddish, Rui, Hayes Wood/Knecht/JHS
