I can't believe what I've heard in this video. It's insane to even think that Lana Del Rey is original or timeless.. She's nothing more than a one hit/album wonder, another industry plant who was forced on us because of her (heavily edited) looks. Her whole career was an ad for substance abuse and cosmetic surgery. I guess we'll have to wait a few more years for young people to see there's nothing genuine, or real about her (just like Billie Eillish btw)

@@amell.5461i appreciate your critical thinking skills, idk wether she actually filmed video games on her laptop became famous and was grabbed by the industry or if the industry made her say that. I’m also not sure wether or not Billie started genuine and at some point got corrupted

I think it’s important that Lana wrote music for Gatsby cos so much of her feels related to self invention and self-mythologising and there’s something rlly distinctly American feeling about that. Like her paying homage to the romanticised vision of America, the ideal, the American dream as if it were still intact and widely within reach. And she does this so sincerely. The idea that in America you can be whoever you want and her entire career feels like a testament to that idea. Great video :)

Gatsby is also just such a fitting movie for her. Its vintage setting goes with her old Hollywood glamour (and mess) that is her brand.

Coco put into words what I always felt I was "I don't have to be the Taylor Swift or the Ariana Grande, I can be the Lana of my industry". Yes, I've never been the chosen one, the one the people chose for their team, I'm me, and I have my qualities, that might not be like other qualities but I will shine at my time and I will shine to my public. It's so comforting to think like that.

It's so funny how Lana doesn't make "music for the internet" but even so, her presence has been constant on social media since Tumbrl. Tiktok loves her unreleaseds, I met her in 2014, because of ultraviolence, tumbrl, all this sad girl aesthetic, and today, many teenagers know her because of her songs on tiktok, like yes to heaven. This is so crazy. Since Tiktok became the social network of the moment, Lana has been gaining popularity among the general public, and not just the loyal fanbase that has followed her since BTD. As a fan who has followed her faithfully for 10 years, I felt this change, and I think it's incredible, she has never been as popular as she is today. Seeing Ocean Blvd's songs trending on TikTok is something that still perplexes me. And I can say with some confidence (because I'm Brazilian and I live in Brazil) that here she has a very strong fanbase, at every show, since the first time she came here in 2013, everyone sings the songs, all of them, last year , when she came to the mita festival, man, people went crazy.

What a thoughtful and compassionate feature on Lana. This is the first video of yours that I’ve ever watched. I will def be running over to part two. I’ve been a fan of Lana since Video Games. I just remember being mesmerized by her video and her rosy yet melancholic aesthetic. I was so sad for her after SNL. I’m glad her fans have continued to show up for her. Her Coachella performance made me emotional because she was still herself: Unhurried, mysterious and ephemeral. Like she could disappear at any moment… Thanks for this! ❤

Let’s remember that the US market isn’t traditionally the most accepting of “new” due to its commerciality - if your record doesn’t fit into a box where it can guarantee to contribute to ad sales on radio, it probably isn’t being played. When video games came out it wasn’t only a cultural hit but a chart hit; In the UK due in no small part to the BBC being a public (not commercial) broadcaster, as well as France, the Netherlands, Brazil, Belgium and others it received significant airtime. It was popular because it was popular.

Even Fiona Apple, who is also a mysterious artist, said somewhere that Lana's performance on SNL wasn't that bad and people were being mean to her. "I just feel bad for anybody who gets trashed. I haven’t heard any of her stuff really, but I saw that first Saturday Night Live performance, and I didn’t think that there was anything about that performance that deserved to be trashed. If you gave me a whole movie’s worth of all the performances on Saturday Night Live with all of the people that they’ve had on there, she’d be way down on the list of people that I would trash. I don’t remember the song that I saw her sing, but that’s all I’ve seen of her."

MySpace facilited many term careers. Lily Allen, Kate, Arctic Monkeys, to name a few. The online environment was far better for musicians back then in lots of ways. Spotify is more of a hindrance than a help, SoundCloud is a mess now but it was excellent back then. Also, Video Games peaked at no9 in the UK chart, it was pretty massive here. Her drummer used to work behind the bar at our local pub in Brighton.

Guys… come on. She is mysterious but she post a lot and she is digital as fuck. She is a technology woman who likes to dress like vintage. She says how much she loves technology and all. She posts reals and photos on Instagram every second. She is obsessed with her image. Yes, she is vintage but only on the way she writes and dresses. If she would be not famous she would still be making her own video clips. That mean that she know lots of computers and video making programs. I think she is fascinating! ❤

Lizzy will never get her due. But maybe that's the point. She doesn't fit in and doesn't care. The people who are not in the spotlight are always the ones that create the avenue and space for those who are in it to occupy it. The real innovators move in silence and don't seek attention. Someone like Lana couldn't be more different than someone like Taylor Swift.

My opinion. The reason she’s viewed poorly for SNL is because for me at least. Me being a huge fan of her lyrics and sound was that I related to her deeply thinking she was a Latina baddy. When I found out that she only has a link to the Spanish couture from others and it’s not in her blood was heartbreaking to me. Still love her, still support, but wish there was more Latin couture being popularized for it being their background. Not MADE UP.
