@RubiiX but it's stated in the movie they were taking the water and within a day the water level had already decreased significantly, so they were most likely just going to blitz, take as many resources as they could and leave.

@RubiiX all you said is pure speculation just like what I said tho. Also if they could build machines to travel lightyears across while fleeing their home planet I'm pretty sure they could do it again on earth. I remember reading an article when this movie first came out where one of the writers said that the reason why the aliens came to earth is because they were the losing faction of a war on their planet. They attacked earth out of desperation not out of malice. I always thought that was pretty cool. They needed our resources for their race to survive!
@cykeok35253 жыл бұрын
They could have come and asked for help, but it makes sense that they'd just invade. They have no way of knowing whether humanity would help them if they were at our mercy. A surprise attack would have seemed like their best chance at securing enough resources to survive.
@masstv90523 жыл бұрын
@@cykeok3525 opening up a line of trade between the aliens and the humans would have worked better in the alien favor. The humans, especially military, would love to get their hands on alien tech that is above our own, even if it's not like other Sci-Fi movies with world devastating technology. They still have biomechanical technology that we don't have. SO trading that technology for resources to save their race, would have made a lot more sense than an invasion when the aliens were already under resourced, and losing the war on their home planet, opening up another front against humans while there low on resources was just idiotic.
@cykeok35253 жыл бұрын
@@masstv9052 Yeah, I think it shows how a lack of trust can lead to horrific consequences, when things COULD have actually gone well. The alien leaders must have been worried humanity wouldn't be friendly, so they'd have to take things by force.. and they must have also thought that they didn't have enough numbers to successfully invade without a surprise attack. So I'd guess they made a surprise invasion without even trying diplomacy first, fearing that humanity would not be friendly. Realistically, the fact that they were a credible military threat would actually keep the more aggressive human leaders honest. It's always easier to negotiate when you have a strong military, even if you don't intend to use it. Meanwhile, the more reasonable human leaders would definitely easily agree to trade water for advanced technology. I mean, seriously, how hard a decision is it for a country to make? WATER for ADVANCED TECH! Easy choice.

For the life of me, i cannot comprehend how/why people hated, or at best disliked, this film. Especially fellow hardcore sci-fi fans. I mean, it's far from brilliant, it's as good as shit like Independence Day or District 9 which are for some reason adored by most fellow sci-fi fans, despite the fact that they were mediocre films at best. I really liked the feel of the combat in this film too, it pretty much felt like "Black Hawk Down," just you know - with Aliens invading lol. It also did a really good job depicting how actual firefights are, where you rarely ever actually see the person shooting at you. Where your just walking then suddenly bullets start wizzing by and though you may know the general direction of where the fire is coming from, but significantly more difficult to actually find the sniper or snipers are positioned. The graphics were really fuckin good, and it had certainly a simplistic plot - but so do damned near all action films, including war films, and what matters is how well that plot/story is executed. And this film does just that with flying colors imo. It's examples like this one where i get really fuckin annoyed with the sci-fi fan community. The fact is we rarely get cool sci-fi battle scenes, (granted this take place in modern times and personally would have liked this a billion times more if this was a futuristic sci-fi combat film), with a good budget and great special affects. Other than Star Wars, we rarely see on the ground combat - the vast majority of the time it's space ship combat or airborne combat. I can literally only think of six 7 other movies that had sci-fi battles of some kind that have come out in the past few decades: "Edge of Tomorrow", "Avatar," Starship Troopers," "Aliens," "Chronicles of Riddick," the flash-forward scenes in the Terminator franchise, then that one with Christian Bale that took place in the near future. I guess you could put on some comic book flicks, but that's about it. Hell, compared to other genres, we don't see nearly that much sci-fi action films in the first place, (good ones anyway). And these people are the quickest to tear down films like this one, acting as if there's just the massive plethora of similar films to compare to it - when there simply isn't. And when people join hate-bandwagons and dogpile films like this one, all while complaining about how we don't get any sort of movie that isn't a sequel or a reboot to an existing franchise. It wasn't great, true, but even if just for the badass action scenes this film was/is worth the watch!

Fun Facts. The landsharks were a losing faction from another war on another planet. Apparently they were booted out or were fleeing from a even worse opponent which might be still on the way.. They were using a generational ship or large mothership that like similar to the one in the CGI movie Terra was literally on its last legs when it reached our world meaning there was no changing direction or negotiations they were absolutely desperate. This is why the Landsharks weapons and technology seems like it was slapped together and why well a obvious army and high tech seemed haphazard. They likely had no real military tech except basic weapons and equipment likely to survive on another world. When they checkout Earth they likely saw a world that had fairly primitive civilizations compared to them and figured they could colonize and basically be a easy run. If the ship they have is achieving at least enough speeds to get to us in a few decades for them it would be a century or more for us in real time due to time dilation As they start approaching they likely see our tech advancing far faster than they would hope and by the time they start approaching our system its probably when they started to panic and realized that they bit off more than they could chew but having no other option began to prep for a world invasion. They had plenty of time to setup the best invasion points and figured once they gained a foothold they could demand terms once they taken out most of our coastal cities. In many ways I feel that if humanity was under any threat by a invade it would most likely be from a aggressor who is similar to the landsharks. kicked off one world and looking for a new one and worse. Desperate. They are not evil but they have no choice cause its the survival of the species and technologically capable of at least achieving generational ship capabilities. We as of 2021 have the potential to create such technology. So I say the land sharks at most were a few decades ahead of us in technology perhaps a little more and that is terrifying.

There was a Harry Turtledove SciFi novel series (can't recall the name) about an alien species that had surveyed Medieval Earth from afar and used that information to launch an invasion, because apparently their rate of technological progress was much slower, but they arrived at Earth during WW2 with their military technology equivalent to ours now. They cannot subdue the entire planet and it becomes a desperate war against a now-united Earth. The Niven/Pournelle novel "Footfall" has a storyline very similar to your premise where a rival "herd" is forced to leave their homework due to war and limited resources and they attempt to subdue Earth with technology that is only a century more advanced than Earth's. We fights back with an Orion-class nuclear pulse battleship, desperately thrown together in secret (due to orbital bombardment) by the United States government. Liu Cixn's novel "The Three Body Problem" also has a similar premise, but in this story, the invading aliens use quantum technology to slow/halt our scientific advancement over the centuries before they arrive.

For all their tech they still needed a grunt with a rifle to take and hold land. Curious fact. There are in fact compounds and materials that only form in liquid water, with an oxygen atmosphere. Some of them are important to biological functions, phosphates etc. If your primary source of these substances is cut off, or challenged by more powerful forces, taking on a bunch of unprepared locals with less advanced(moderately less advanced)hardware would be a viable option. So their advantage in power generation, biomechanics, and FTL. made the attack possible. But they were forced to restrain their tactics to those that would not contaminate, poison the resources they were after.

I love the difference in in this movie and the concept of alien invasions in media. It shows that aliens don’t need to be way ahead in tech and absolutely steam roll humanity. They can be closer to us with jet powered aircraft, proper military tactics and ballistic weapons. No fancy heat rays or indestructible space shields. Just gritty house to house close quarters combat. And actual battle tactics, no humanity delete sticks, or falling back to boring Hivemind drowning your enemies in blood tropes.
@javieru533 жыл бұрын
That is a really naif comment. If there is any alien form that would invade us, just to get here they would require substancial more advanced technology than the one we have right now. This would be the equivalent of medieval europe against us right now.
@Seriona13 жыл бұрын
@@javieru53 Not technically true. Humanity for example has the technology to invade Mars if we really wanted to do it. The issue comes down to logistics, money, and most importantly the will. The aliens as far as we can tell are only slightly more advance than us.
@vrass7753 жыл бұрын
@@javieru53 Lol if we wanted to we could reach other star systems with the tech we have now, yeah it would take centuries but we could do it. Scientists have already calculated that even using ships that take hundreds to thousands or more years to reach their destinations it should still be possible for humanity to colonize the entire galaxy within a few million years.
@javieru533 жыл бұрын
@@vrass775 No, no we couldn't. There are logistics that cannot be solved. You are talking about a million(s) men invasion with a current tech as possible? LOL indeed.

In the movie, these aliens are called ANTS. Which makes way more sense then Land Sharks. Their heads look like Ants, and they even seem to have decentralized brain functions that are not fully located in the cranium, just like real ants.

If aliens ever came to earth, we'd already have lost. Just the simple fact that they were able to get here shows they're already far superior in technology and biology regardless of if they're hostile or not.
@abdulazizahmed5142 жыл бұрын
you're forgetting how advanced or prepared they are. sure they can travel through space but the aliens in battle LA underestimated us and were already a war torn race kicked off their planet with limited military capabilties. if an alien race similar to the ones that invaded in Battle:LA invaded earth we'd win. since they'll target our coastline cities and humanity would learn their weakness and exploit that

Aside of how good the movie is, one prop I give is the alien design. Sure, they still have some futuristic level of technology and weapons, it's not to the level of most movies were aliens have perfect looking armor, with energy shields and plasma weapons that made them impossible to kill, but the design is more utilitarian focus as well as normal weapons still damage it to some level.

The film had great detail and the effects were terrific. If only the battle exchanges were longer and the soldier squads were larger with added gore and war injuries, it would have been my ideal alien war movie. Love the alien tech especially their mobile missile launcher. So ditch the shakey hand camera work in some parts aswell (it settles down later though) and the movie would have been perfect. Not a bad effort though
