I'd argue it gets going pretty much straight away to be fair. I'd agree that season 1 can seem a bit slower and I think it's better on rewatch but some insane things still happen in season 1 and it really sets the tone for the rest of the show.

In the book Bran was only 7 and when he caught the twins in the tower he thought they were wrestling. Reminded me of 6 year old neighbor kid, his dog had pups, but when he saw the dogs in the act he thought their tails were tied together. Sweet Summer Children!

​@@Real97til Nah it ain't that serious. This show is as deep as you want it to be. You can casually watch the whole thing and you won't miss anything. The major plot points in this show aren't exactly subtle. So don't stress over keeping track of every detail. There's just a LOT of characters all doing different shit so it can get confusing sometimes. But yeah. If you want to pay more attention, it's a much better show. There's lots of scenes that don't seem important at all until much later. It's hella deep.

My favorite character in Season 1 is Tyrion Lannister aka The Imp. Understandably, the TV show had to cut short storylines and characters, because of course you can't possibly adapt everything from book to tv, but the books give you more of an insight into the characters, their motivations, their flaws etc

Aww, Arya watching the Hound ride into Winterfel in his dog helmet is just so adorable! Grab a pen and paper, thare are a lot of characters, and all of them pay a crucial role, sometimes only 2, 3, 6 seasons from now. But all you need to know for now is there are two main continents, Westeros, where this story takes place with its seven kingdoms, and Essos (across the narrow sea) where Daenerys and her brother Vyseris fled to after the fat king took their father's place in the Iron Throne. Welcome, this story is one crazy ride.

Fyi Daenerys Targaryen is supposed to be about 16 in the show. She and her brother Viserys have been hiding out from the king (Robert) for most of their lives. The guy Robert was talking about killing (in the crypts below Winterfell) was their older brother, Rhaegar. Robert wants all Targaryens dead. Dany looks scared when she sees Khal Drogo bc she's a teenager being sold by her abusive brother, who is the only reason she's still alive, to a very large, intimidating person she's never met before. She looks spaced out sometimes bc she dissociates in order to endure frequent trauma. It's complicated.
