The Largest Aircraft Ever Built In The World.
The time of unusual and legendary aircraft is running out irrevocably. The reason is computer simulation. Today developers know in advance whether the plane will fly or not.
In this video we will recall the days of pure engineering, when airplanes were created because of beautiful ideas and courage, or as a result of the insight of aircraft designers.
We present you the real Don Quixotes of the world aircraft industry - 10 largest aircraft in the world with the most interesting destiny.

My dad, Colonel Richard H. Sorenson was a 17 year old first lieutenant and B-17 pilot. He led 57 missions and never lost a crewman. On a noteworthy sorte over Germany the plane was heavily damaged by flack after releasing the bombs. He fought the dying plane for 2-1/2 hours before landing at their base in Foggia Italy. No one could believe that the bomber had made it back. Half a wing, one engine and the upper tail were missing. The fuselage had a large percentage of it’s aluminum skin blown off. On the ground, the middle of the plane was resting on the ground and showed the effects of scraping on the ground in spite of the fact that the landing gesr was intact and was in the down position. He received a “Certificate of Valor for fighting to keep it in the air and bringing the crew back. These men were giants. After the war was over, dad found himself at a base near Miami, Florida. An officer asked him to go to the motor pool and get him a jeep. He respectfully declined the order. The officer asked him why and he replied: “I have never driven a car. I don’t know how to drive.” I miss him terribly.

That’s unheard of today and even then not common, a young man of 17 years being a first Lieutenant and a pilot of multi engined aircraft. Looking back at my teen years there wasn’t a kid I knew that wouldn’t be trusted to operate or fly large commercial/military vehicles. Fast forward forty years and the maturity level of 2023 young adults is almost nonexistent and I might be able to trust one early to mid teenage kid to even operate a vehicle safely with adult supervision.

As a channel that's supposed to be about aviation, you'd think the video titled "biggest aircraft in the world" would have the biggest aircraft in the world. But the list jumps EVERYWHERE. Going from downright MASSIVE with the first one (the name slips me) to the B-17?!? I'm pretty sure the B-52 threatened the size of it, but still was smaller. Then not even CHALLENGING the size until talking about Myria. Brings up a C-130 which is downright PILFY for a list about large aircraft, when they could be talking about the spruce goose, the C-17 globemaster, the 747 (especially if my suspicion about this being important aircraft), the A-380, and a solid number of others. TL;DR, I want my twelve minutes back. And NO, I'm not subscribing. I know this comment helps the algorithm, but this video tells me an important thing. This. Is not. A channel. For aviation fans. Maybe do some better research next time.

That hasn't been approved yet- But they always have all the space they'll ever need for fresh electronics packages - given that it was designed for computers that practically needed a small bedroom size area. The B-17 was NOT Boeing's first attempt at a modern heavy Bomber. That title goes to the B-15 which was about 1/2 larger but was not a success because they couldn't get engines powerful enough to carry that load. It was turned into a very long range transport mostly for higher officers who needed to go somewhere far from their permanent location. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boeing_XB-15 Edit: The XB-70 had a very unique feature in the outer 1/3 of the wing folded down in flight for any supersonic flight. That folding portion of the wing was actually bigger than the wing of the B-58 Hustler. It allowed the shockwave that formed in front of the engine nacelle to be captured under the wing and provided enough extra lift that they could fly at those supersonic speeds with a zero angle of attack. That made sustained supersonic flight feasible for such a large aircraft and reduced it's fuel consumption considerably. It was as big as the B-52. Top speed on the B-52, about 600 knots or .95 Mach. Top speed on the B-70, about 2300 knots or as he says Mach 3.05. (Yes I am an aircraft geek.) edit 2: It was the second prototype that was crashed during a publicity stunt. The first prototype is at Wright Pat. edit 3: At 9:16 he talks about the missiles used for the first time off of a bomber and shows the missiles loaded on the wing stanchions of a "Bear". which by the way is NOT weaker than the B-52 in all respects. It has a much longer range and loiter time if needed. Edit 4: No there's not a special model to use on aircraft carriers. They landed and took off a regular C-130 from a carrier as a test to see if it could be done but was determined that it was not practical. He talks about a C-130 swinging it's wings and that is absolute BS deeper than the grand canyon. They are all fixed wing aircraft and do not swing their wings.

When I was a kid I saw a B-52 low fly over at Richmond Air Base in a air show. Dad (spent some time in Happy Valley 68-69) said the only thing they ever saw from them was the straight white lines in the sky except for one time when he saw a little bright spark then no more straight white lines

Computers tell you in advance that an airplane can fly? Don’t let technological arrogance make you think this is entirely true. The 737Max computer simulations looked good on the screen too. Nice presentation but you left out the Howard Hughes giant transport. That held the record as the largest airplane ever constructed for a very long time.
