Before the internet, it was pet store and the German pet chain TETRA putting out books and magazines on fish keeping, that where I learned what I could,, plus in the Canadian Military, aquariums were classified as a hobby, so you could require that water and drain lines could be plumbed into your barracks room if possible, and if you were being deployment you got buddy who wasn't to take care of you tank until you came back. OFR does a fantastic job of helping out the hobby. SFMF!

I got really lucky with the local fish store I went too. Their name is Pruess's pet store in Lansing Mi. They were the first place to ask about my tank and if it had been cycled and if I wanted them to test my water. At the time I didn't know these things and was able to be educated about the aquarium cycle and water quality. After 20+ years of keeping fish, it's still one of my favorite places to visit.

you said its none profitable.. but you charge an adoption fee?? sure thats is profit when you are getting the fish for free.. i totaly understand you need to charge to keep it going but dont say its none profitable when it is

Sir you need to do some research and understand what a non-profit organization is and how they operate. The shed aquarium is the largest nonprofit animal organization and it makes millions of dollars a year. Non profit means in a nutshell that any funds made are pumped back into the organization. You still have bills to pay, animals to feed, medication, vet bills, and whole laundry list of other things.

And another fyi, none of these animals I rescue are free. Cost to pay my crews to pick them up? Gas? Tolls? Equipment? Vehicles? Vet bills? It's easy to think it's all free but in reality it's not by any means. It's a service we offer
