@bobrivett76452 ай бұрын
@PitstainHobbies I grew up in Palm Bay/Melbourne Florida. One of my class mates in high school was the son of the owner of a little hobby shop called Ernie's Hobbies. It was a really small space-building, but he had model kits, figure kit, HO & N scall train stuff plus diorama building supplies stacked so insanely high, the would use a ladder to get at top of stack. Long story short, that Hobby shop now run by Erie Junior survived till Covid. When he has to shut it down. So sad. What Covid did.

@bobrivett76452 ай бұрын
@StryderK Yup, at least a big part of it. Ran into a former hobby shop owner I use to frequent. He told me that while it was hard to compete with internet business. What really tipped his over was the landlord and rent, his lease on the building was coming up for renewal and the new lease almost doubled from what he was paying at present. He tried to negotiate but the landlord wouldn't budge. Had a firesale of merchandise and closing the doors. He told me another business moved in within a couple months. His old shop was now a mattress store. I couldn't believe it, so I drove by the old shop. Now this was about 2 or maybe 3 years since the hobby shop closed. And yeah it was a mattress store but it was closed too. Always wondered about that landlord, whether it was a greed thing or something else. A number of different business's operated out of the old hobby shop building none of them lasted more than a couple of years. While hobby shop had been there originally +20 years. Go figure.

I met the owners at the little store they opened in Austell wayyy back in the 90's before they moved to Kennesaw. They were an older couple and were very sweet and excited to open their little shop. Little did they know then how successful and huge that little shop would be! Go by and say hey to Burt and Kevin! They've been at that store for many years and are experts in EVERYTHING hobby related. I moved away a few years ago (Used to live in Acworth, about 20 minutes from the store-they got LOTS of my money!!!) but still go by at LEAST twice a year to say hey to everyone..

Alien Resurrection is the one that is the last I remember watching there. So that would’ve been 1997. Hobbytown was originally down on left of where it’s at now kinda in a corner location before moving into the current one. I believe a restaurant or something is there now.

Nice tour, thanks! I live near the store but until this vid popped up on YT I knew nothing about it. Say, early on in the vid you come across a big display of a dinosaur model and blew past it twice without a pause or a mention. Since this is a video I'm watching I was internally yelling "Stop Stop What Is That?!" But it seemed that I saw it but the camera operator didn't. It looked pretty darn photogenic to me; at least as much as the golden war rifle. And then you got a close-up of a small store sign and read it out loud to us -- but the big green toothy dino? Musta been a mirage. Enjoyed it, thanks again Pitstain👍

I guess YT didn't care for my previous attempt at a comment, I'll try again with a TL;DR: version. 😆 1.) RC room used to be an indoor carpet racetrack for cars. Much fun w/my Tamiya TA-01. 2.) Still flying model rockets, they still have a great supply of Estes products - and motors, but they're behind the registers. 3.) Tools/adhesive/paint, no matter what you're building. 4.) Staff usually knows what you're talking about/looking for. 5.) Saw "Jurassic Park" for the first time there, back when it was still a cineplex. 🤣
@PitstainHobbies2 ай бұрын
I had no Idea the whole RC room was a carpet track but it makes sense, until this last visit they still had a smaller Mini-Z track setup at the back of the room, I used to race my HPI Nitro cars and Ofna 1/8 Nitro buggy back in the day when living up north, it's how I ended up with this screen name. Keeping the combustible rocket motors behind the counter seems like a decent idea for safety sake.
