Saurophaganax is absolutely my favourite Dino. Whatever happens with its genus. It'll always be its own in my eyes 😆

Saurophaganax-is indeed the biggest Jurassic carnivorous dinosaurs. It's now 12.8m long & 8 tonnes

Saurophaganax was always my favorite animal since I first saw it in Dinosaur King. Other than that though I feel it’s a shame that when talking about the Morrison Formation Saurophaganax. Torvosaurs, Morrosaurus, and even to some degree Ceratosaurus, seem to get neglected in popular media. And what’s worse is that in the Documentaries When Dinosaurs Roamed America, and Jurassic Fight Club, just made their Allosaurus Fragilis, (or the same species as Big Al) the same size as Saurophaganax/ Allosaurus Maximus and portray that as the default Morrison predator. It feels as though they are saying “yeah Allosaurus Fragilis, the most common carnivore in the entire Morrison, it is not interesting enough as is, so let’s just take one of the rarest Morrison predators, make it the default, and leave it at that.”

Have you looked at the large Allasaurid from the Peterson Quarry in NM. it was considered a possible Saurophaganax and is still undetermined as to whether it's is or a large Allasaurid? Unfortunately excavations were stopped at the site due to the road to the site(but the truth was the director of the museum at that time hated Dinosaurs) but it does need further investigation into what exactly is it.

Is Allosaurus and Saurophaganax the same animal or did Saurophaganx evolve from Allosaurus?

That’s what we’re tying to find out

They diferent animals,comparisons with all we know of saurophaganax holotypes they are different not only in size but in total structure to the allosaurus one, the vertebrae of saurophaganax look more like the acrocanthosaurus

Still say it's just a big Allosaurus. Allosaurus maximus.
@thomassizemore5814 Жыл бұрын
I agree I think most small tyrannosaurids like daspletosaurus were just juvenile tyrannosaurs
@denizen9998 Жыл бұрын
@@thomassizemore5814 I think Daspletosaurus could be a possible ancestor of Tyrannosaurus. But not necessarily the same genus. There are alot of skeletal differences between the two. Moreso than Allosaurus and Saurophaganax which lived at approximately the same time. A lion and a leopard are the same genus and have about the same amount of anatomical differences besides size. A horse and a donkey are other examples. Same genus but different species.
@thomassizemore5814 Жыл бұрын
@@denizen9998 you’re not wrong at all maybe I should’ve been more clear. I was just attempting to make a point using that specimen as an example. Like it was better to use daspletosaurus as the example vs gorgosaurus which is totally it’s own thing
@apersondoingthings56897 ай бұрын
I know this is a year later but Sauro does have enough differences to be called a different species. The vertebrae are much bigger and different proportionally (more similar to acrocanthosaurus) and the chevrons are completely different in shape

Actually no 😂, Saurophaganax maybe basal Carcharodontosauridae

Thank you very much for providing this, but here is a confusion: Saurophaganax' first name was "Sauruphagus" (meaning: lizard eater) - identical with a formerly named bird. So, the change had been made to "Saurophaganax" (meaning: lord of the lizard eaters).

Its 12.8 meters and It’s 8.3 tonnes and that’s just the lower estimates the upper estimates max out at 9.7 tonnes that’s almost T. rex territory 💀

The saurophaganax appears in planet dinosaur where it drives away an allosaurus from it prey (a camptosaurus that the allosaurus killed)
@frank3508 Жыл бұрын
A veteran paleontologist l know at my local museum is of the opinion that Saurophaganax was a huge Allosaur - an extremely large subspecies of Allosaurid.

Thank you for an exellent video and very good information. If you look at the African savannas there co exist many different types of predators living in same habiats, but evolved with different strategies and many types of prey...... Its awful to think that most of them are on the brinck of extinction, caused by us humans, and also because climatic changes. - This is happening all over the world right now. We are living in the period of 6th global mass extinction.....
