This was super cool but also super sad to me. My dad was the original owner of number 3177, Jazz Blue just like this one, that car was around for most of my childhood and this is the first time I'm seeing one looking just like his in all these years. He proudly kept his totally stock, then he sold in in 2011. The kid who bought it made a lot of changes, then some kid that kid sold it to totaled it this year. My dad regrets selling it to this day, I showed him this video and he wishes we kept it.

I had a jazz blue #3174. I only had it for 2 years and traded it in 2005 for a 2001 Audi S4. I've had several Audi's and GTIs since then but that was my favorite even though it wasn't the fastest car I owned, I just loved cruising in it and taking it to the drag strip.

To this day, in 2024, having owned a MK6 GTI and MK7 R, and currently debating either an S3 or getting back into an R/GTI after my current soccer mom Rav 4 hiatus expires, this car was the exact vehicle that started the love affair with the Golf series...I remember being high school, driving to the VW dealership after hours and they had a blue one on display outside the front doors...I would circle it, stare at it, heck I don't even think I had a good enough cell phone to take pictures of it but best believe I pictured myself driving that thing and ripping through those gears....I promised myself I would own a GTI...and eventually when my eyes set on the R and I missed out on the MK6...the order for my Oryx MK7 was the longest, yet most satisfying wait, for a vehicle....doubt anything will ever top that raw, genuine love for a car no matter what I get myself into down the road...thanks for sharing!

For the stereo, buy the RCN-210. Excellent mod with great sound for around $150 bucks. It has all the modern features with the oem look.

Awwwww man what a comment, thank you so much! We do this as a little hobby and to collect memories and put them on KZbin so we can look back in a few years and enjoy it all over again. This 20th is almost fully restored now and we’re going to be putting out a video of it very soon

@@ENGAGE_AUTO_GROUP can’t wait to see! How did you find out about the car again? I missed that part. Luck? Or you searched? What I found awesome about your experience is that you guys grabbed it from the best group of guys. Rare car but even more, rare sales from someone u can trust without knowing. I couldn’t point out any negatives except that center console lol! Easy and fun fix! The mileage worried me a sec but again, it was in good hands and she sounds really healthy. Simple engine. I’d be happy as hell man. Did u guys pull the headliner? It looks like it either took a lot of water or sun. Maybe I’m tripping but the video looked like the cargo carrier trim was a lil more discolored than I’ve usually seen around. If it was water, make sure to pull headliner to unclog the rear drains. Everyone emphasizes the front drains and symptoms Indicate so but mine were never cleaned in the back. They were so bad that I know I can’t be the only one with that prob! Much love

@@helpontheway I have maybe one or two more update videos on the car, we did a lot to it so far, it’s almost near perfect besides the rear bumper needed to be resprayed. The interior was all done up properly with an OEM radio and whatnot, take a look!

@@helpontheway also one love auto group posted that they were gonna part it out but because it’s #4000/4000 they saved it and my brother was the first in line of many people to buy it and he got it

Awesome video! I have #3865 with 62,000 miles on it. Really great shape, but it has been my daily for the last 20 years so by no means showroom. That said, people ask me how I've kept it so nice. Totally stock. Never modded. Never raced. Was thinking of cleaning it up a bit (bumper rash/rims) and putting it up on Bring a Trailer soon, unless you all are interested!!! Let me know...

I didn’t know only 4K of these were made. I recently bought one and it needs some love in some areas but the motor has been rebuilt or replaced by the old owner and we fixed the tranny on it and I am loving this car, I couldn’t be happier to have it as my first car

You got a real gem…. When I was 19 the AE dropped and I wanted one so bad but I couldn’t afford one. Got myself a mk4 golf 2.slow and while it was a reliable car and looked ok, it was not fun to drive. My buddy had a 337 edition which came out the year before the anni’s but was almost identical. I took that for a spin on I4 and opened it up….. I was hooked. I couldn’t get that car out of my head. Now that I’m older with a better job I have 3 Mk4s - one of which is a OEM+ recreation of somewhere in-between the 20th and 337. It’s my baby. Stage 2 tuned, full oem body kit paint matched to the only available in Europe 25th AE tornado red, all brushed aluminum trim, various performance parts, metal parts in common failure plastic areas… it’s a keeper. Don’t waste that car you’ll regret it!

I use to live in Pa and I had this same Gti in Jazz Blue. I loved it but sadly sold it in 2009ish to buy a bigger family car( Audi A6 avant). I wish I still had it. I did recently buy another gem though, 2006 Imola yellow Audi S4. I'm keeping it forever!

I just bought a 2023 GTI 40th anniversary edition, but the 20th GTI was always the car I dreamt of when I was younger as I love the mk4 body style the best. This 20th looks pretty good and just a little TLC would make her perfect.

Sad thing is, no one will ever know which 20th was last to me made. The serial number of said car was installed at US port and not the Factory.........So in reality you have the last made plate but the first or middle car built.........
