I swear M night Shama lama Ding Dong is only a good DP (director of Photography.) HE messes up writing, editting and directing so often in many of his movies. If it wasn't for his "twist" that has become notorious in his movies, he would be un notable as a director. I swear I hear many people say, Oh I could guess what the twist will be at the end of this movie. But, I never hear anyone say, M night is the next Spielberg or the next Scorsese... Problems with the characters: Aang isn't cocky-ish and playful. Sokka is super serious and isn't goofy and funny. Katara isn't independent and always needs to be saved. And Zuko is always yelling at Iroh and doesn't show any sort of love or respect to him AT ALL. He was a bit disrespectful in the cartoon but he at least showed some respect and love to Iroh in the cartoon, and tried to reason with Iroh.

another important part of the first scene talked about (in my opinion) is that Zuko not only agrees to Aangs terms, but actually follows through. something fairly uncommon for the fire nation, ESPECIALLY Zuko's own family. its immediately foreshadowing that he never really lost his honor, and that he's more honorable than most of the fire nation, making him the perfect choice for next fire lord. also sets the tone that Zukos character really does only care about getting his honor back, not feeding into the war or abusing power. the live adaptation twists that into a person who has no issue threatening to hurt innocent people in a very Azula fashion, and also doesnt care to enforce his end of the deal by not reprimanding the soldier that attacked. both characters suffered for it.

I just realized that! God damn it! They make it seem like creating fire is something special in this movie, and it's just so stupid. when this movie came out my family and I planned a movie day. my parents got us our favorite snacks and we all sat down in the living room to watch it, we were so excited because we all watched the show together multiple times and it was a huge bonding moment for us. Reminded me of what happened to Jake Lloyd for Star Wars, he got so much hate by fans to the point that it affected his mental health so badly and Lloyd was a kid when he got so much hate for Star Wars. I don't want that to happen with the kid who played Aang too because for the most part, this movie is not his fault

There are several things o hated about this movie: some of the characters names were said wrong, they weren’t the same from the original series, all episodes were combined in one movie, and they cut out some great characters, such as: Suki and the Kyoshi Warriors, Teo and his mechanist father, Jet, Smellerbee, Longshot, Pipsqueak, The Duke, King Bumi, and worst of all they had a stupid talking dragon spirit that took the place of Ko and Avatar Roku.

what made avatar so so special is how they capture us with all the emotions and the incredible, detailed and thought-out personalities. I mean it even made us have a deep emotional connection to a bison and a lemur. it's what carried the whole show (apart from the amazing aesthetics and soundtrack) as there is not even one character you can actually truly dislike bc we come to understand their pov's and see how everyone is so fascinating in their own way. that's what's COMPLETELY missing in the movie and just shows what a great job they did on the show.

I think most of the problems (of which there are many) in this movie are because of Shyamalan. He has an extraordinary level of pride, almost to the level of Walter White. He refuses to work with or hire anyone else to do screenwriting or editing, refuses to listen to criticism and refuses to make any compromises. He even credits himself as Written, Directed and Produced by M. Night Shyamalan, instead of just splicing it into different sections like someone like Christopher Nolan. Even if Michael Bay was in charge if this movie, I’m sure he’d have done better job. Heck, I’m pretty sure I could have done a better job and I don’t know shit about filmmaking.

The only note I have is they said in the show (the good one and only one I choose to believe exist) the scene where iroh nags zuko about being cold and using his fire breath is insignificant but that’s a huge deal, avatar the show is famous for showing how the characters became what they are or are going to be by showing small things ahead of us learning it. So an example is how we see Azula in the front row smiling in the flashback when iroh tells the crew how zuko got his scar but Azula isn’t introduced till a few episodes later. In this case we see iroh nah zuko about his breath of fire and how it can save his life then in the boil rock we see zuko use this fire breath when he is unbolting the cooler to escape but I love it there’s a lot of small details like this throughout the series

Earthbending has to do with roughness and brute strength while air is calm and evasive. Korra was very aggressive, excited and always ready which definitely alines with fire but not air as she isn’t the calm and avoiding type.
