Actually the trajectory of most black powder cartridges is around 30 feet at one thousand yards. Some 50 caliber rifles and say the 45/110 cartridge used between 110 - 120 grains of black powder depending upon the bullet weight and seating depth in said cartridge case. Bullets ranged from 500 to over 650 grains. The paper patched bullet loads could hold more powder since they were seated out further in the cases. I have been shooting these Sharps black powder rifles for close to twenty years. I own two very nice Shiloh Sharps, a Hartford model, and a Montanna rifle plus my first Italian made Quigley model all in 45/70. All outfitted with Montanna Precision vernier sights. All are capable of near minute of angle groups, provided I do my part. They are my pride possessions. Nice video, I enjoyed it very much.

Spend the money and get a C. Christian or Shiloh Sharps. Not the Italian second rate guns. They did NOT shoot bison at much over 200 yards. Would wound too many animals. Target shooting, well over 1,000 yards. At 150 yards, a fully loaded .45-110 is very flat. Almost point blank.

@ 1:08 Something triggered me about that scene, when you blew out that match. Now I know. 😁 It's the same place in the melody "The Ecstasy of Gold", where Tuco throws the map away, before he starts running, to find the grave of Arch Stanton. 🙂 Was that on purpose?
@TUCOtheratt2 жыл бұрын
It's interesting that you noticed that. Actually I figured out that that would just be kind of cool to blow out the match study the smoke drift and then look into the distance. I was thinking originally that it was the Buffalo Hunter judging the wind for the shot. But it could also be the moment he realizes there's no more Buffalo to hunt. I placed it there just because the music changes in a dramatic way and it's a perfect place

I've heard of this mythical Steel Beast you talk about, you have to be careful and keep downwind, if wind changes direction and it becomes aware of you it can bounce back and hit you with your own lead!

One thing about it is when you were firing that rifle when I was watching you didn't have your elevation set right and on top of that I would have used a a method that I know that would help me when I'm getting ready to shoot a long-range target I would look at trees or the blades of grass and see which way the wind's blowing Left or right and if the wind's blowing from the right you and everything at bullets getting a blow go right into it and I hang off to the right because that bullet's going to drift that wind's blowing pretty good instead of aiming the right where you're thinking you're going to aim you go to the left side of your target because if you aim to the to the same direction as the right your bullet's going to go completely way off the target so you aim at the left side of it and that wind will drift it right into where you need to be you did pretty good for what you're doing you just need a little bit more practice

He is using one of the poor quality Italian "Sharps". Not worth the money.
@JamesClark-lw6sw6 ай бұрын
WRONG. First off, there are at least three Italian firms that have made 1874 Sharps replicas. The best is Pedersoli- which is what Tuco is shooting in the video. The Pedersoli made Sharps are AT LEAST as good as a Shiloh or a C Sharps in terms of metalurgy and barrel quality. Where the Italian guns fall down is authentcty of styking and fit and finish . In that regard the US made guns are better.
