I hope he was able to keep a journal, or at least pass on some stories of his time with President Davis. That would be so cool!

@ehayes5217 Harvey C. Sanders, C. S. A.....(1837 - 1925) Native of Kentucky. In Civil War, fought at Shiloh, Chickamauga and other battles. After being wounded twice, became a guard at Confederate White House. When Richmond fell on April 3, 1865, was placed in escort for the departing president. Rode 5 weeks toward Florida, where President Jefferson Davis was planning to sail for Mexico to join many other Confederate leaders. (These Southerners intended to regroup an army, march north to Texas and continue their fight for states' rights.) President Davis and his guards were followed by thieves trying to steal the Confederate treasury, the horses and the wagons. The assassination of Abraham Lincoln on April 14 and the offer of a reward of $100,000 caused many adventurers to hunt for President Davis. Just before dawn on May 10, near Irwinsville, Ga., Federals captured him and his party, including 2 Texans, Postmaster-General John H. Reagan and Presidential Aide F. R. Lubbock, a former Governor of Texas. Mrs. Davis and children were soon freed, but all the men were imprisoned. Sanders was released in a year. Later he came to Texas and lived near this site after 1887-- honored for years as the last man of the Davis bodyguard.

The General looked so cool in that airplane; like it was old hat to him.❤😊 My gg-grandfather was from Buncombe County, NC, and he and his brothers fought for the South. He and my grandmother were alive at the same time, and I will always regret not asking Granny questions about her ancestors.😔 It hurts my heart to think about it. I am a baby boomer, though, and I was taught to go outside and play, and to respect my elders. Life was different when I was a kid.

Thank you. That video actually brought out some strange and unexpected emotional reactions in me! In a good way it brought a tear to my eye just because it made me think about what a life he must have had......117 ffs thats insane! Then it did the same thing but in a sad way because it started me thinking about how much everything has changed and how much of it is for the worse. Then that started making me get madder than hell! It started me thinking about all the monuments and all of that shit and these awful evil people trying to make good people feel bad about something that is mostly based on left wing lies and propaganda and even if it wasn't its completely out of the control of people today anyway!! To see all of those people queuing up like that to pay their last respects to him in his coffin was absolutely mind blowing! Men, young people, children and especially given today's 'educated emancipated feminist types' so many Women as well! Can you imagine anything like that if it was now?? It always amazes me saddens me and quite honestly.... angers me just how easily people today can so easily disrespect their ancestry and their history. Without even trying to research historical facts from other sources or to even try to see both sides of things they just ho along with thix bleeding heart liberal left biew that ALL White people are bad and that it was a war fought on the single issue of slavery!! I can guarantee never even knowing this man that he had not nor would ever have in the future been a slave owner...so he and all those other common soldiers risked everything and so many did give everything for what? About 6% of the richest families in the entire south...i doubt it! People like that won't research or listen to facts not because their dumb but because they are stupid and scared out of their minds of being called bad names and that they will be unpopular online! When you properly think about it to say it was only about slavery is not only quite disgusting its also very very sad and extremely disrespectful because by doing that it totally destroys and belittles the memory of all those brave men and boys who fought and died for something they truly believed in which clearly had NOTHING to do with slaves! By the end of the video i was actually just feeling quite grateful and relieved that all of this current shit state of affairs the world is in and all of this woke blm bullshit started long after he had already gone! Be grateful for small mercies i guess. God bless y'all 🙏 God bless The South 🙏 and.... 🇸🇴 LONG LIVE DIXIE!!!🇸🇴

I love the fact that General Williams got a full military funeral. Even though he was not in the union army. Also loved that the airplane ride was by a veteran and not a confederate if you can understand what i mean. It wouldn't have taken away from it. But it didn't make any difference which side he fought for in the headline. He was a veteran of the Civil War. And anyone who says this or that about any confederate OR union soldier all I have to say is this. At least these men took a stand for what they thought was right. They answered the call. Either union or confederate.

@gregkilgore4035 Ай бұрын
I'm glad and sad at the same time. I'm glad that the government/people honor the confederate soldiers as veteran. But sad that they dishonor the confederate soldiers by flying a flag over them that they did not fight for. As a veteran myself. I would not want a foreign flag flying over my tombstone. To a Confederate soldier, a US flag would be a foreign flag

@@gregkilgore4035 Giving the way the wind was blowing at the time, the decision was made that both sides were Americans, and it was a way of maybe preventing desecration of graves by the less respectful crowd.
