As I was watching this Doc which is getting better and better with each episodes. It was crazy how players played defense. Every shot MJ and the Bulls made there were always crazy defense trying to stop them and vice versa. Jordan's defense was beautiful as his offense. I really think Jordan is the GOAT. Easily.
@Simon_Sez4 жыл бұрын
Also the illegal defense rules made things a bit easier in my opinion. That’s not taking away from how amazingly skilled guys were back then but if there was no way to play help defense consistently, it’s sort of making it easier for the offense. You could only double team or stay with your man, no shading over to the ball handler so the defense was forced to stay glued to a bad shooter or go and full out double team which would allow an easy cut to the basket. You couldn’t play middleman defense back then
@ChefSwooby4 жыл бұрын
Simon Sez spot on. If people actually cared to go back and watch old games, some of the defense is actually atrocious. Jordan drifted by the suns defense every play in game 4 of the 93 finals with such ease because of the illegal defense rule. It was either 1 on 1 or a hard double team, can’t compare to today.

@Rico Wright Some of us don't have to do that much 'research'...we were there when he played. They weren't on TV much, it was black and white television...some of you might have to research what black and white TV is....Chamberlain was a freak of nature, so athletic for his size, it just wasn't fair. But if you "research' Wilt's career stats you'll find that the stats they kept back then match up to Jordan's better than a lot of players...BUT they're NOT as good. ANY IDIOT that thinks "a series on Jordan" makes him the GOAT didn't see him PLAY....that's what makes him the GOAT.

@@edwardwalden05 do you even understand what happened with the Hong Kong protestors? if you did you would call LeBron a phony as well so im going to educate you people in Hong Kong were protesting for more freedom in Communist China. Houston Rockets General Manager Darryl Morey tweeted he was fully in support of them. so far, no problem there. now a little backstory: Hong Kong is part of China but has its own autonomous set of rules and regulations apart from communist China. those separate rules and regulations expire in the year 2047 when Chinese communist rules will be adopted as law in Hong Kong. this is because Hong Kong was ruled by Britian before 1997 when it was handed back to China the Hong Kong protestors were pretesting new laws and rules being put into place that were more aligned with how laws and restrictions are implemented in mainland China. they still wanted thier region run how it was like under Britian, a democracy then LeBron tweeted that Moreys tweet "was uninformed and could lead to serious financial repercussions". look at that. a basketball player from USA supporting communist policies in democratic Hong Kong against the protestors of course there was an explosion of backlash from LeBrons tweet. the protestors saw LeBron as a traitor to democracy who was only protecting his billion dollar Nike interest in China Nike, Reebok, and Addidas all see China as a bigger more profitable market than USA and Europe combined in the upcoming decade. they do not want anything to destabilize thier interests there the protestors in Hong Kong and in mainland China threatened to boycott all Nike products and Nike *forced* LeBron to make a retraction, which he did it seems that LeBron can get as political and "woke" as much as he wants but when it comes to money, you can make sure LeBron will say and do anything to keep Nike and his coffers full LeBron is a sell out for that filthy lucre. if he were a man of integrity he would have supported Morey but instead showed the world he supports making his pockets full of cash more, at the cost of people of Hong Kong freedom

The Bulls had great role players that could play, but Lebron's Miami years were superstar stacked...not the same.

MrChocolateMan bro...basketball is much more than having big names on the roster, Wade was a superstar yes but he was on a very sharp decline from 2012 and onward, Lebron wasted away Wade’s last great superstar season in that mavs series but other than that let’s stop pretending Miami was some unstoppable powerhouse due to 3 big names. Bosh was never really a superstar and as well as he fit on that roster the rest of the team was never that great, Carlos Arroyo and Joel Anthony were friggen starters for Christ’s sake along with the fact they had a rookie head coach. But that’s not even the point, Lebron spent 7 years in that hell hole of an organization with the Cleveland cavaliers where nobody wanted to go play, and where they have always been one of the most incompetent nba front offices throughout Lebron’s career, as opposed to Jordan on the bulls where they drafted well, hired arguably the greatest coach in nba history, and operated great with trades and free agency. The point is that if Lebron was with a competent organization to start there would be no need to take matters into his own hands. It has even been a good thing as now since then teams with superstars (outside of Phoenix) will have fire lit under their asses to make sure they stay competitive as now players are much more mobile.

The way we see MJ in the 90s especially behind closed doors... Is Very opposite as to the MJ of today who is quiet, invisible, and it's even not sth u pick up from his highlights ... A lot of people start to understand how driven he was, how cocky/self-confident he was about who he was and his skills. I mean he even called himself God (jokingly maybe). And even in today's interviews in the Last Dance he still has the confidence to say that he was the best of the best back then. Plus look at all the media circus around him in the 90s, look at how Stern and all say that he was the face of basketball in the world, he put the NBA on the map, look at the constant scrutiny and pressure he was always under. Lebron today is nothing. He can't even say he's the best in the league these past years. It's not that clear. Jordan on the other hand... He was like Michael Jackson. They will probably bring up his comeback from baseball and that will show his greatness even more.

If people want to act like hand checking is the only reason the NBA is soft right right now...fine..debate away. Hand checking became illegal after Lebron's first season as a ROY. That year he was 20.9/5.5/5.9 on 44% shooting. His rookie year. For comparison...MJ lite (Kobe) averaged 24/5.5/5.1 on 44% shooting. His 8th yr in the league. Lebron is bigger...stronger..faster...and mote efficient than Kobe. Anyone arguing Kobe also wouldn't have made it in the hand checking era? If Kobe could...Bron could. Also...one got hurt often...one doesn't. That matters. You mentioned the media around MJ. You will never convince me..even with all the media around him....THAT type of scrutiny TODAY is comparable. Ex: It took a few weeks for reports of players actually breaking rules and playing. It took us over 35 years to find put MJ was playing while he was supposed to be rehabbing. Listen man..as a sports fan...I am enjoying this doc. But people...keep things in perspective here. MJ retired twice before the "you can't use his time with the Wizards because it doesn't matter" phase. MJ himself has said in the doc he retired the first time because he just got burnt out. It was too much pressure and he didn't feel like it was worth it. I see it as humanizing MJ and actually letting ME see he is an actual human. But I am confused how MANY people hear MJ give his reason for retirement and people just...don't listen. I...to this day...have friends tell me he retired because of his dad. MJ never said that (though I'm sure it's part of it). People say it's because of the gambling. Well...MJ did hint at his problems with "competitiveness" (pretty sure I have heard gambling addicts say the same). But to be fair...it could have also just been part of the reason. We hear him say the grind and pressure day in and day out with no peace is not worth what he had....but what some people hear is "listen...you can't be me without this so it sucks but GOATS grind and that why I'm the best". Now imagine the grind he had to go through all those years...just with media alone...going to those finals. 3 straight times...twice. Now....imagine having to have that same thought process while going to the finals EIGHT straight seasons. You think that kind of mental strength is easy? Try it for yourself...because I don't even want to imagine being MJ or Lebron.

papito5ft6 Nobody can’t imagine being Jordan because he’s a cyborg. All night he’ll gamble then get two hours of sleep. Wake up and go play golf then drop 40 that same day. It was too easy for him.
@ericjordan60593 жыл бұрын
@@papito5ft6 ... Lebron's rookie season stats are actually 20.9/5.5/5.9 on 41.7%. Kobe was 24/5.5/5.1 on 43.8% in his 8th year. He has never been that efficient anyways. And to add, Lebron's shooting percentages began to get better when the rules changes took affect, allowing for the lanes to open and easier movement into the lane became available (Look at how Tony Parker and Steve Nash started waltzing into the lane easily). He also gets away with using his off arm to push his way to the basket, something Kenny Anderson would always get called for. It is an offensive foul but they magically let him get away with it. I'd also like to add that most of Lebron's shots (about 66%) for his career comes from within 3ft of the basket. So his shooting percentages can't really be compared to players that take more midrange/long-range jumpers than he ever thought about taking. Lastly, Lebron and Kobe averages the same amount of shots per game over their careers. So much for that "Lebron is a pass first player" bullcrap!

@djones19434 жыл бұрын
Yal don’t even know what stat padding is...it’s when the game is out of reach and your purposely still chunking up shots to get to 50 and 60 and chasing that extra rebound or assist?? When he did that?? Stats are apart of the game..and that’s why you watch him on tv instead of him watching you...you don’t get it 🤦♂️
@aaronaiysen75344 жыл бұрын
shamicheal lewis Yea stat stuffing in a league that don’t play defense cause he got no choice 🤣 Durant wil be the all time leading scorer. If Bron didn’t have these Bronsexuals in the media there would be no goat topic. They push that false narrative.

Of LeBron never left Cleveland the first time and won his first championship there, the debate would be more valid. As basketball fans, we grew with the Bulls. If you were a true Bulls fan then, every time they lost to Detroit, it hurt. Unlike the players of today, just about every key player came back. MJ would have never left the Bulls before winning his first championship. He was committed to winning there not leaving and going to a so called contender

MJ legend to big because he played in college, dunk contest, didn’t make excuses for being hurt to the media, didn’t have to run to other super stars to win. And than than choke in the finals 8 points is uncalled for. Plus getting a out scored by a bench player in the finals.These Bronsexuals in the media push this narrative and put him above Magic 5-3 in finals Duncan 5-1 and others .

The reason Jordan doesn’t get a pass on being more socially responsible is.. he is in a industry of tradition.. traditionally the greatest African American sports stars since jack johnson, Jackie Robinson, Muhammad Ali and year Kareem Abdul jabbar have used their platform to help elevate the civil & social rights of black Americans clearly recognizing each athlete paves the way for future athletes to have a bigger voice .. Jordan failed in that area. He didnt endorse the black senator and southern blacks who grew up under Jim Crow, hangings & burnings during Jordan daddy’s lifetime and in the black community it is very important to respect elders and he let them down. And on top of all of that black kids were buying $100-$200 sneakers for decades.. nah Michael you owe the black community and like he said “it was selfish”

Basketball skills aside, LeBron, Mohamed Ali and others will be remembered as more than athletes because of not being afraid to tackle social justice issues. MJ is fine just being viewed as a athlete and an icon. He admitted if he had the chance to do it again he wouldn’t be a role model.

It’s easy for lebron to “speak out “ in the 2010’s. In the 1980’s it was a different time. Imagine coming out as gay in the 1980’s compared to today? Imagine giving the “I have a dream...” speech of MLK compared to giving it in the 2010’s. No comparison. Being outspoken also doesn’t make you a number one pick, nba mvp, or all time grear
@williamcampbell14994 жыл бұрын
It amazes me how people like Rick can speak for other people. Kobie was older inn that interview. People change and mature. Plus on the issue of today's game, each generation is more athletic than the previous generation in every sport. So stop putting your views in other people mouths.
@cobrachannel1004 жыл бұрын
What does have to do "more athletic" with anything? You delusional if u think that BB is just weight and height. Otherwise, guys like Steph, Dirk, and other slim guys would not be as impactful.
@kevin73924 жыл бұрын
cobrachannel100 right! Doncic is embarrassing these athletic freaks left and right. Athleticism without skill or IQ always loses to skill
@warrenpughsley83524 жыл бұрын
Listening to Rick, I love that comment. All the “fool the referees” type of stuff makes today’s game look weaker. The travel that isn’t called today is a blatant travel, and the fouls are much easier to draw, which makes today easier to have success in. Kobe was great, but of course he was being honest because if you look at so much of his game and u see it as a carbon copy of MJ’s, he’s right. Like a Doug said, Lebron leaving Cleveland and feeling like he couldn’t win there, when MJ built his team in Chicago, will always be an issue. But not only that, the 18-31 record in finals aside from 3-6 in finals series is only part of that story! How many times did MJ lose in the playoffs when he was the higher seed? When did Jordan lose to a team like Dallas in the playoffs, let alone the finals, and get outplayed by other guys? Yes he won the finals MVP when Cleveland won, but Laurie could have won it, and many say should have. If Iggy can win when the guy he was guarding averaged like 38 points, and Steph averaged 10 more points than Iggy did, Kyrie could have easily won. Add to that KD playing the same position and winning 2 finals MVPs and outplaying him when KD was in OKC, he can’t even be considered as the best ever!
