This person is NOT the only one trying to save the pure type of Inuit dog. There are groups of people doing this. Without watching the whole film I do not know if these dogs actually are worked regularly, pulling sleds, and if not then living their whole lives on short chains is cruelty. These are active dogs and need exercise and mental stimulation. The conditions shown otherwise are poor, but the traditional Inuits also kept their dogs tied up without shelter when not working.

I am watching a show called Polar Bear Town and that is where this guy is from and he chains the dogs, feeds them frozen food then when the polar bears come around he charges people $75 bucks a head so he can feed them...when really he is using the dogs to create an income and says he is saving the breed. I do agree about being on chains sucks so I don't know if I like what this guy is doing. I heard about this documentary from that show so I know this is the same place and guy.

Yes this seems to be the tactic. Apparently, someone did press charges once (on the grounds of animal cruelty?) but there wasn't sufficient evidence and when they were dropped, him and his wife/girlfriend paraded around town proclaiming his innocence and berating those who filed the suit

I totally agree! I just watched this on tv and was appalled. My animal rights instincts leapt to the foreground - and I was appalled. Against many reverent followers, I'm sure. I even made comments on a fb page and was immediately "attacked".

I actually own a Canadian Eskimo Dog, and what you just said is completely false. They do have a very thick coat, but not much thicker than an Alaskan Husky, and they can easily be kept outside. They also aren't anymore vicious than any other breed of dog.

I've been to Churchill and have met Ladoon, and although this teaser looks amazing. i still do no agree with how the dogs are kept and treated. Ladoon may seem to be doing a good thing by trying to keep the breed alive, but its in an un-controlled envrionment. Very few of those dogs are actually pure.

Ok drifter12345able, I'm assuming you have a personal relationship with this man but when every person in the town dry heaves when I mention his name, warns me he is potentially dangerous if confronted and gives me such strong indications that animal abuses are going on in his front yard, I'm not really inclined to trust you

The breed standard is set by the Canadian Kennel club. It's a very specific standard, and if blood lines get mixed up, or aren't properly recorded, then the dog won't be recognised as meeting the standard. Genetically, these dogs are very similar to dogs found in places like Greenland. There are people all over the world who love them and use them for recreation and sport. Brian's dogs were valued and prized by people who bought them. But he wasn't very successful as a breeder, far as I could tell. His dogs were healthy and strong, but he didn't seem to keep good records, or register pups (too expensive he said). Sales were haphazard, and probably not very lucrative. Just shipping the dogs must have been hugely expensive, which would have put off all but the most determined buyers.
