This movie was produced by Berry Gordy, founder of Motown, hence the dope music. A few of the songs are sung by Willie Hutch, a major music staple for lot of the 70's blaxploitation moves. Vanity (RIP) (the love interest) used to be Prince's protégé. The song/ video that Vanity introduces is by DeBarge, they used to be on Motown & were pegged to be the next Jackson 5. & Taimak (Bruce Leroy) is a real matrial artist.

This movie holds a special place for those of us who grew up with it. There were remake rumors for years...which I could do without, except that Samuel L Jackson was supposed to be the new Sho'nuff, which would have been bad-ass. I would have liked to see that.

Honestly I'd rather not see Sam Jackson as Sho-Nuff. I wouldn't actually think of him as Sho Nuff. He'd just be Sam Jackson. I'd rather they picked someone else to be a new generation Sho Nuff, because at this point, it would be better to have Bruce Leroy be the new teacher for a new hero, and give him his own new villain.

This movie succeeds at being silly as hell yet cool as fuck. Btw that scene in the movie theater... that's really not to far off from how it used to be in old New York or big city movie theaters in the 70s when they played Bruce Lee or kung fu movies. It was a fuckin party.. and for some people, these movies were like a religion..like people responded to the philosophy in kung fu movies (like Bruce Leroy did). Its hard to describe but theres a reason WuTang Clan was a thing. Bruce Lee alone had a HUGE black following back then... that's why when Lee made his first and only "Hollywood" movie (Enter the Dragon, shown here), the studio recognised this and put Jim Kelly, another great martial artist, in the movie to represent the black audience (he later starred in his own movies, like Black Belt Jones)

Sho'Nuff and Simon Phoenix (Wesley Snipes in Demolition Man) are two of my favorite marital arts villains 💯😂. I really wished they had a chance to make a part 2 to this. Make it where Leroy married Vanity character and they have a baby and Sho'Nuff in jail training and kicking other prisoners ass to prove that he's still The Master, then he break out, kidnap Leroy baby and doesn't return him unless he gets a rematch. That would have been a hell of a sequel 🔥🔥🔥 Rest in peace to Julius Carry. Great performance and also to Vanity, she was very beautiful. It’s so ridiculous and yet cool like a Mortal Kombat comedy. During our 20s (2005-2006) my sister and I actually had the privilege of hiring Taimak aka The Bruce Leroy as our own personal trainer in New York City at his private Fitness and Wellness Studio gym. He was always so fun and inspirational in his training. We confessed that we had huge crush on him as Bruce Leroy and he told us about his filming experience of his classic first movie role. He even told us he dated late actress Vanity from the movie but she was really into drugs and partying bc she used to be with Prince. We met Taimak’s mom and his friends at a restaurant that he and his mom opened in NYC. He loves his family and fans.

@@MrGrifter123 true lot of fans forget that one for some reason. Don't really see the guy in much nowadays. Some years after the rundown he got kidney failure. Luckily he's doing fine and he's always around for fans during TMNT celebrations.

I ran into Taimak at a comic convention i was dragged to in Queens NY. When i saw him there at a booth I became a kid again. Nicest guy ever. I did tell him he was responsible for a ton of ass whooping's by my older brother after watching his movies. Bought a few photos. Have a great selfie with him and one thing on my bucket list I never knew i needed until it happened was checked off.

The intentions was a blaxspoitation tribute to chop-socky movies, with special love toward the god of all those films, Bruce Lee. With a great soundtrack. For what it was, it was perfect. Saw it in the theater back in the day. As Bruce Lee fan, what a joy. Taimak was so hot.

Good reaction. Those two songs you like in the movie is called "Inside you" by Willie Hutch and "The Glow" which is the last dragon theme. My favorite one is "Inside you" I still listen to it today :D

I love that they appreciate the song because I've randomly had it in my head for years. " when you reach the upper level your mind, body, and soul become one. it's a sacrifice it takes power. it's a way of life. when you got that glow! " R.I.P. Vanity. because of my love of Prince and the revolution as a kid of course I had that crush on her.

The kid Ernie Reyes starred in teenage mutant ninja turtles 3. Also in surf ninjas along with his dad. The last dragon is one of my most favorite 80s movies
