If you don’t know, this is called undercutting. It is where whenever you do a skill (most likely a backhandspring) you arch really far and it kind of makes you go nowhere. It can be really harmful and very bad technique wise, but if you know how to control it and when to not use it then it isn’t too bad. It’s still not a good habit to have.

Back when my sister was on a competitive tumble team, she had a reaaaaally bad habit of it and it drove the coach nuts lol. She doesn’t really tumble that much anymore cause she developed back problems and I wonder if undercutting for many years is the reason why😬

I was hoping someone said something. A true back handspring doesn’t have much of an arch, using shoulder flexibility and the muscles in your legs to push you into the bhs itself; lessening the weight and impact on a persons spine. When undercutting the legs do much less and the spine arching much much further and surrounding muscles drive the skill, along with putting more weight and impact into the spine. In other words 11/10 don’t recommend.

But…. not the safest. This is called undercutting and if you train them like that it can damage your spinal canal, hips, shoulders, elbows, wrist, knees and ankles and spine. This can also cause whiplash and cause head injuries. It was smart but definitely not safe.
