LYRICS:
I saw the light fade from the sky
On the wind I heard a sigh
As the snowflakes cover
My fallen brothers
I will say this last goodbye
Night is now falling
So ends this day
The road is now calling
And I must away
Over hill and under tree
Through lands where never light has shone
By silver streams that run down to the sea
Under cloud, beneath the stars
Over snow and winter's morn
I turn at last to paths that lead home
And though where the road then takes me,
I cannot tell
We came all this way
But now comes the day
To bid you farewell
Many places I have been
Many sorrows I have seen
But I don't regret
Nor will I forget
All who took that road with me
Night is now falling
So ends this day
The road is now calling
And I must away
Over hill, and under tree
Through lands where never light has shone
By silver streams that run down to the sea
To these memories I will hold
With your blessing I will go
To turn at last to paths that lead home
And though where the road then takes me,
I cannot tell
We came all this way
But now comes the day
To bid you farewell
I bid you all a very fond farewell

+Abubakr Chalid I cried as well. And I guess I will do so every damn time I will see the movie ^^ so sad. Still I think the saddest death was Thorin. What he said at the end and Bilbo desperatly trying to keep him with him... =( Not to mention this goosebump-making scene at the end when the humans play the horns of dale for the fallen king.

+SimplyStupid LOL...so glad you got bored and read it. I ended up buying an illustrated collectors edition of "The Lord of the Rings" because I loved the books so much and wore out my paperback editions re-reading them. Still need to find a good hardback of the Hobbit...which I remember being introduced to in my English class when I was in 7th grade. That got me going on the rest of the books and into Science Fiction/Fantasy novels.

What I love about this song is that Billy Boyd is saying he'll miss his friends, but they have their separate journeys to make. Maybe someday their journeys will intersect again, but for now they have to go about their lives and hope they'll meet again. The whole song isn't actually about saying goodbye, although it does talk about that. It's about the passing of time, the good past you've had with friends and the unknown future. Will you ever see them again? Only time will tell. But until then, hope. Have faith. Live and love. Don't worry about your friends. They'll be fine. Just focus on your own life, and maybe someday, your paths will indeed cross once more.

My husband died June 9th, 2024. He loved the Lord of the rings movies... and he loved listening to you sing, Peter Hollens!!! I still love listening to you and your wife sing! You bring comfort to me in your songs, you both sing so beautifully, you are truly blessed! As I watched this video, I just felt this was truly the best song to play at the end of his funeral this Saturay June 29th, 2024, it will be his way of bidding everyone who knew him a final farewell, thank you Peter for singing this song!! My husband found your music just after you appeared on the show "The Sing Off", and we have many of your CD's! In addition, my husband told me that he wanted "Amazing Grace" that you sang with Home Free played at his funeral, it is the first song. He knew he was dying from kidney failure, and it was just a matter of time, we just didn't expect it to happen so soon or so quickly! He went into the hospital on June 2nd, his kidneys were failing, and in the blink of an eye, he was gone... but not forgotten! I miss him so much.... 😢

You could always do the songs/poems Tolkien wrote, such as the poem of Tinuviel (this is actually being sung in Elvish by Aragorn in the extended version of the movies). Of course, you would have to write your own rhythms and pick your own key, since there is no music written for any of those; though I doubt it would be a difficult task for you :) Love the cover, Peter! Keep up the good work, we all love hearing you sing! (:

***** You can find the English lyrics in "The Fellowship of the Ring" (pages 216-218, but they may be on different pages in different editions. It's in chapter 11, "A Knife in the Dark.") If you were interested in the Elvish translation, I could totally direct you to someone that speaks/reads/writes fluent Elvish. Otherwise, you could find any other songs/poems by Tolkien in any one of his books, or even online. Another awesome one is Aragorn's Coronation song (he sings this in the last few scenes of "The Return of the King.") It is quite beautiful! (Wow! Sorry for the overload of information!)

This has to be my favorite credit songs from the hobbit trilogy. Love that it isnt only a goodbye for the hobbit but also the lord of the rings. Dont think that Peter Jackson, and his crew, wont be making another Tolkien movie. Which is a shame really, cause no one can top or even be equal to his rendition of Tolkiens works. Great music video Peter. Love it as much as the original from Billy.

***** , oh, wow. Thank you. Makes me feel so good inside to know you think something of mine is a good idea. So very appreciated. I've been so very sick, lately and am headed to a specialist for my rare disease Thursday. Its just for one portion of what's started to go wrong but of serious concern; my cervical spine so off to a neurosurgeon to take a closer look & see what exactly is going on & what is needed/options (if any), etc. I will admit that i am scared. So, thank you for sending this & I am ever grateful I saw it before having to leave. I've no idea what my life's journey is about. Been questioning so much lately. But, its nice to know I've gotten to speak to some amazing people/interact w/ some people I'd have never discovered if NOT for being so sick; one of those is you. I'm here at home and KZbinrs, such as yourself, have helped keep my head above the crashing waves in deep water that constantly pulls me under. Thank you, Mr. Hollens & ***** for making beautiful music that I love & can share w/ my family as I go through my journey, wherever is leads me, as far as I go. Means the world. My world....my soul. I'm smiling b/c of your simple words, to me....b/c you thought i had a good idea. Sounds so silly and yet, gave me hope. :) Thank you for that. Don't stop doing that for people. You never know what they are going through or just how much it truly impacts them or on what level you reach them. Sending good thoughts and prayers to you and the family. -Tiffany

@thegamesforreal1673

Well the wind blows because the clouds in the atmosphere block sunlight as well as the day-night cycle and a couple other effects mean the sun warms the earth at different rates in different places, causing warmer and colder pockets of air, which causes warmer air rising to create low pressure areas and cold air sinking to create high pressure areas, and the air then moves from high to low pressure areas which we call wind! Peter hollens remains a mystery though... Couldn't resist, i'm sorry!

I have a wish, if I could be so bold as to ask it...; I wish you would do "Saturn" by Sleeping at Last. This song is one of my favorite, it speaks about how rare and beautiful is our existence ... This song is totally awesome! In Dreams would be great, but maybe a bit hard to cover it as acapella. But i would really wish other songs from you. 1) "That´s what Bilbo Baggins hates" from the firt Hobbit Movie (a Hobbit/LotR song you haven't done so far ;) ) 2) I think it's called "Yo Ho" from Pirates of the Carribean as an own song outside the Medley. You could say something like a single^^ 3) "Now We are Free" from the movie Gladiator 4) "The Dragonborn Comes" from Skyrim (but Malukah already did a version of this, still a male voice could be really awesome with this song) Maybe one of these songs would be also wished by other members of the hollens Family =)

To all people who think the Hobbit is the last time you will see Middle Earth on the big screen just remember the English copyright laws state that 70 years (Under the 1995 regulations) after the death of the author the material is free to use. The debate will be if JRR is the true author of the Silmarillion/Lost Tales (The only real way to make more Movies/TV shows). JRR may have written the material but his son Christopher finished and published both works so its up for debate who actually "wrote it". So lets do some math. If JRR Wrote it: Died in 1973 so its 27 years to 2000 2000+43( The remaining # of years) = The year 2043 (Best Case Scenario) If Christopher Wrote it: Still alive but 90 years old (lets assume he will die within 5 years, kind of rude I know) 2015,2020 +70 = Between the years of 2085 and 2090 (Worse Case Scenario) I'm not a legal expert so i'm sure this will be debated endlessly in courts. But in the end money talks so i'm sure we will be seeing one much sooner after all in the words of JK Rowling “There's always room for a story that can transport people to another place.”

This song is one of the many reasons why I bought your Misty Mountains album, your voice is amazing, and you are so very talented. I get shivers up my spine and tears form in my eyes. Keep it up!

I think you should try doing songs sung by The Tolkien Ensemble. The ones written in the books... I like their version of Edge of Night, the song sung by Peregrin Took to Denethor in Gondor, more than the movie version though.

Oh my gosh I was scrolling through my lotr Playlist, and I noticed a bunch of the titles were different, and I had a heart attack. Lmao I guess he decided to change the titles all of the sudden, that scared me.

This was amazing, easily my favorite song from the entire series. There are a few shorter, smaller songs from the films left, most only about a minute, the ones coming to mind instantly are "Blunt the Knives", "The Man in the Moon Stayed Up Too Late" and "The Green Dragon" Probably a few other short songs I missed as well. Also it's nice that you acknowledge the comments, it really brightens my day to see a response, even something as simple as an "awesome" or "yeah" or even "thank you" just makes it seem like commenting still has a purpose.

***** A few more are "Houses of Healing," "Hymn to Elbereth," "Hey, ho to the bottle I go," "The Walking Song" (that one might need a little extra), and "Elendil's Oath." As for the best place to hear them, I could provide links, if you'd like. They should all come up with a google search otherwise.

Oh yes. And don't forget "In Dreams." That one's HUGE. On top of that, it has a bit of the Fellowship's theme in the accompaniment, which should be very fun.

I believe that if that great storyteller, J.R.R. Tolkien, were still alive today, he would have had some choice words to say to Peter Jackson about the direction of the Hobbit films but would be very pleased with what Billy Boyd and you have accomplished with The Last Goodbye. I tip my hat to you, sir. Job well done!

Wow, this is amazing. It's so nice to have your favourite youtuber do covers of all the Lord of the Rings and Hobbit songs. And I would also like you to do Blunt the Knives. And what would also be absolutely wonderfully amazing is if you could do a cover of Diggy Diggy Hole. It is a REALLY great song! Plus you have the perfect voice for it. :)
