King Peppy Iron Fist wasn’t awful but it could have been so much better and him getting beaten so easily by the Hand which he was trained to be a weapon to destroy was pitiful . They also downloaded his chi powers too much he didn’t feel like he had finished his training he felt like he’s still a student .

"No ship that small has a cloaking device" is a line from Empire Strikes Back referring to the millennium falcon before the bounty hunters are brought in. Although Darth Maul's ship apparently had one. Guess they are just really expensive.

The Jedi aren't invincible. Had he stood in front of the First Order in the flesh when they let loose every weapon in their arsenal on him, he would have been blown to bits. As for the mech droid thing, R2-D2 had a map to where Luke was, so R2 could have programmed the route for Luke's X-Wing before Luke left, that would explain how Luke got there without a mech droid, why R2 had a map to his location and why Luke couldn't leave if he wanted to.

He probably went there after the Jedi Temple he built was destroyed so he could find answers. Whether it was to ease his soul or to find a solution to the Kylo Ren problem, who knows, but he didn't find what he was looking for. He became disillusioned with the whole Jedi thing and decided to abandon it there. That's my theory anyways.

Kevin, the reason Luke didn't go to Crait is because he had to become the Legend of Luke. Remember the Man Who Shot Liberty Valance line, "When the legend becomes fact, print the legend." Luke may have been a flawed human being like Yoda reminded him, but to relight the flame of rebellion he needed to standup to the 1st Order in a way only a legend could. He had to be this mysterious ethereal Jedi knight worthy of a kid's fantasy.

To me, the reason Luke had to stay on the island was more about the “legend” of Luke Skywalker and what it meant to the galaxy. From an outsiders perspective, that day, Luke Skywalker “took on the entire First Order with a laser sword” and lived. He withstood everything they threw at him and kept coming and nobody actually saw him die. With the reoccurring theme being to be the spark that lights the fire, his “perceived” deeds did more to inspire the rest of the galaxy than he ever could’ve done actually being there. And if this is the case I see ep9 beginning some time down the road with what has become the new rebellion being an exponentially larger faction.

Haha you’re the man! Yeah in that scenario it was all about giving the universe hope and what better way to do that than having the man who’s already the stuff of legend to face the First Order down alone and come out unscathed? For me that was a super poetic way to accomplish that goal.

SPOILERS! I think Luke choose to not be really there at the end because he knew there was no way for him to survive the attack of the entire new order fleet, BUT he ALSO knew that people will believe that "the legendary Jedi Luke Skywalker could survive this attack", so he needed to device this tremendously difficult deception to: a) not die in the attack, b) revive the legend of the jedi and c) give the rest of the resistance time to scape. TL;DR: If Luke were really there, he would have die in the first attack, with his astral proyection, he "survives" and, at the same time, creates a legend PS: I'm sorry for my english, I'm a spanish speaker
@OfurNayr

Your english is great and this was the idea I got from the tactic he chose. He essentially becomes the new hope for the Resistance building up again, "the spark, that will light the fire that will burn the First Order down." Random people across the galaxy will hear about the legend of Luke Skywalker, as shown in the ending scene with the stable children on Canto Bight.

I liked the Last Jedi but I understand why some fans hated it. I'm not surprised Marc gives the Last Jedi a good review by highlighting what works and avoids the flaws. Its the opposite how he reviews DCEU by only pointing out the flaws and not highlighting anything good. DCEU movies have been disappointing to say the least but Kevin gave me a positive perspective in ways I've rewatched some of the scenes. Marc reviews just reinforce the public internet opinion; its like if someone posted the results to a internet poll and he plays to the crowd on the higher percentage than his own feelings.Couple of weeks ago "People think we bash DC because we are trying to get work from Marvel which is far from the truth"Same person "I had a meeting with Marvel.."

To answer why Luke chose to come as a projection. 1. Wanted to die regardless, maybe felt like if he was truly there his sister and co would not retreat without him, which would make his actions in vein. 2. He wasn't confident that he could hold off all the Walker lasers as he could pretend his projection could, also maybe fearful that Kylo would get the better of him before the Resistance could escape. 3. He is so ashamed of his previous actions, he never wants to truly face people again, but also wanted to become 'A New Hope' for the rebels. 4. He is ashamed of the person he has become and wanted his sister and co to see him the way he was in his prime etc. 5. He has chosen a life of non violence and wants to die peaceful rather than in violence.

No your just trying to justify one of the worst decisions ever made in a SW movie. It was complete shit. The Luke Skywalker that nearly sacrificed himself to save his father would NEVER even entertain the thought of killing his nephew. Rian Johnson is shit, his movie is shit and the prequals will be looked on more favorably... BY A LOT.
@GrahamFeeley22
@GrahamFeeley22 7 жыл бұрын
Seth Napier I'm not trying to justify anything, I didn't like the idea of it either, but it adds up, it's just not spoonfed to us, in ROTJ Luke says he still feels good in Vader. In this film he feels no good left in Kylo and Snokes corruption, he cannot be saved. Also in Empire, with his Jedi powers Luke could fortell that Vader was going to kill his friends. So in this film he could obviously also forsee that Kylo was going to kill all the students in the temple. So what were Luke's other options exactly?
@GrahamFeeley22
@GrahamFeeley22 7 жыл бұрын
Domenic Serena it doesn't at all.. we all assumed he would become a Yoda/Obi Wan character as it was the only other option.. but people would have still been angry with this. Instead they added elements that completely broke the character down to nothing and he must overcome it. They done the same thing with The Dark Knight Rises. They broke Batman down to nothing..that he was no longer acting like Batman.
@captainfantastic7643
@captainfantastic7643 7 жыл бұрын
The entire theme of the movie was you don't go into battle when better options present themselves, even when going into battle would be the glorious option. At this point he's more of a jedi wizard than a jedi fighter. The Force ghost across time and space is a significant enough show of awesome old Luke power and it was set up through the whole movie. Kylo asked if Rei was projecting herself then discounted the self destructive amount of force power that would require. Luke said he's not gonna show up and fight with a lazer sword. He said it's not going to happen like you want. This way he saves the rebels, humiliates Kylo and gives the glorious inspirational moment.

Luke had resolved to remove himself from the physical aspects of conflict. His instinct to light his saber when he saw Ben's thoughts shook him permanently. At the beginning of the film, we see Luke having decided to universalize his failure to all force users. Yoda helps Luke realize that, while it may not be best for Luke to physically fight, others could learn from his story and be better. So, in his (knowingly) last act, Luke participated without giving up this personal, deeply held belief, over which he had agonized for years. He sacrificed his life to maintain this belief and to give aid to those who needed it. This is why he could not go to Crait.

The lightspeed tracking technology was referenced in Rogue One. The whole Finn arc is partly social commentary (the exploitation of children and animals by the people who make profit out of war), part Finn growing (he begins the movie wanting to get to safety with Rey and ends almost sacrificing himself for the Resistance), developing Rose and her background (which also helps with the social commentary) and finally world building. Benicio del Toro's character is a perfect example of the thief with a heart of gold up until the last minute when he betrays them, which is a nice subversion of a classic trope. It's a SW movie with more than just blasters and light sabers. Honestly I'm only half surprised none of you guys got it. Also, Leia flying, for eff's sake, stop complaining about that. It doesn't look pretty, yeah, but every other force user makes superjumps, this is kind of the same but in zero gravity.

The reason Luke dies on the mountain staring at the horizon was to mirror the scene in A New Hope where he's doing the same. To show that Luke has come full circle. I'm not saying that's a GOOD reason (I would've rather he died in battle), I just don't get why so many (including 'good writer' Marc) can't see whats so obvious.

B-Man He projected because he knew he couldn’t defeat ALL of them on the planet surface. The legend of Luke Skywalker would’ve died along with him had he actually showed up. He didn’t feel he was actually capable of doing all of that in person. This way, the legend lives. Also, as someone has pointed out before here, if he dies by the hand of The First Order, or more specifically, Kylo Ren, they now know that they can do anything. The Resistance/Rebel spirit dies as well.

The best about TLJ is that Luke finally learned in the end how to know the good side from the bad YODA: "You will know. When you are calm, at peace. Passive. A Jedi uses the Force for knowledge and defense, never for attack." This is the reason why he wasn't on Crait. He was passive. He used the force for knowledge and defense as it is the Jedi way. Also "That is why you fail" --> Luke didn't believe that Ben could be saved which is why he failed as teacher. The Last Jedi is pretty poetic when you analyze it. Give Carrie an Oscar! She inspired generations. If she hasn't earned it, who has? There are people who got an Oscar for less.

The reason Luke didn't go to Crate is that it relates to the theme in the movie that legends, though not realistic can be useful for inspiration (hope). Earlier in the movie Luke tells Rey that the resistance doesn't need Luke Skywalker, and then discusses his failures to live up to his legend status. Luke the person is not able to do the deeds that his legend could this is the very point of showing him as a flawed person in the movie. Yoda expresses the ideas that failure is a teacher and the burden of the master is that their apprentice will go beyond them. Like the force, Jedi cannot claim to own that legendary status alone, but Luke learns through the talks with Yoda that & connecting with Leia that those legends, though untrue, can be useful to inspire those around you. Luke goes to Crate as an illusion because the resistance needs Luke Skywalker the legendary character, not the actual flawed man. Thematically, this makes more sense.
@jonathanw1019
@jonathanw1019 7 жыл бұрын
If he had shown up in person, he would have appeared as both the legend and the flawed man. He might have lost. He might have sacrificed himself like Ben Kenobi did. At least he tried. But he didn't. The notion that he isn't a legend is where I think you're wrong. He doesn't have to succeed every time to be a Legend. He doesn't succeed in ESB, but he does in ROTJ. His robotic hand is a constant reminder that he fails and is rash and makes mistakes. The fact that he lost his nephew to the dark side doesn't mean that there's no hope and that he's a total failure as a person and legend, it just makes him as fallible as he's ever been. It's what he does after he loses that matters. Does he get up and try again, to rectify the situation that he created and he allowed? Kylo is his responsibility. So is Snoke. It's his job to right what was wronged by them. If he fails, so be it. He sacrifices himself for the greater good. But sending a ghost? Imagine if Ben Kenobi sent his ghost to stall Vader, then he disappears while no one notices. Imagine how less of an impact his death would have had.

The opening of Ep. XI should go like this: We see a huge explosion on a planet where a base just got destroyed which causes a huge evacuation. In the hurry people are searching for Leia and cannot find her. Po gets everyone loaded up and stays behind to look for her because he knows she was at X location which was near the explosion site. Why do people keep saying he disconnected himself from the force? He certainly controlled the flow of who was able to sense him and vice versa, but he clearly is in control of when he can start using it again, he uses it a billion times in Last Jedi, he gets his staff to fight Rey, he destroys the building he find Kylo in with Rey, he keeps himself from falling, he contacts Leia, and he FUCKING TRAVELS ACROSS THE GALAXY. He's not cut off from the force, that's not concretely what they meant when it was said in the film.

The reason Luke couldn't show up physically is because it's impossible, he would've died, he used the "trick" as a diversion, as a man he could never accomplish such a feat, but by using all his force and doing probably the most bad ass thing a Jedi has done, he created a legend.

You were discussing the 25,000 persons who signed the petition? Then you asked to crunch the numbers, as per whether this is a good or bad barometer of fan reaction--in terms of, "Is this a lot (of people)?" Well, in regard to how networks, and marketers, they believe that one protest call or letter, represents between a hundred, or thousand people, each. Thus 25,000 people, represents a lot of disappointed and angry people among the fan base, both directly and indirectly. I do know for a fact that, in advertising, only 1% to 2% of the people that you reach with your message...actually respond with a purchase, that is, if the product or person being advertised is largely unknown and unbranded. That said, if a product is known, and branded, there is a 5% response rate. What does this mean? In terms of negative fan responses to the studio, if the negative responses, now rival the positive responses, then that is an issue. According to Rotten Tomatoes, the negative responses by fans, are nearly equal to the fans who are praising the film. This early in, I would say that is a very bad sign. Why??? Most loyal fans, tend to come out strong in support of a film, no matter what, and no matter how very terrible it is; you will recall the prequels. Then within 6 months, past the opening, those same fans, began to admit that the original prequel was lousy, etc. This was a pattern that continued, since. Given that, such will likely be the case with this film, TLJ, and let's remember, the original prequel was initially given loving reviews by the fans, before they finally sobered up, and admitted the truth. Since, out of the box...with "The Last Jedi", almost half of the fans hate it, to begin with, you can imagine what the true measurable response rate will be in 6 months, to a year from now, when the fans calm down from the hype. You will likely see signs which reveal that this film is largely hated, as opposed to a so-called, split of opinion among fans. Last Monday, the film was off 50% from TFA, and over this weekend, it has been reported that the B.O. estimates for the 2nd weekend, is 25% off TFA. Look, ultimately, these people are trying to sell youth and toys. Well, I read just last year, that the toy business for Star Wars is significantly off--the toys are just not selling like they used to. Why??? The movies are simply not up to par, and pandering to the filmmakers, when they make and write terrible films, isn't going to change that dynamic, only better films and better scripts/stories will. The king has no clothes here, but you are afraid to say it, however...I'm not. That is the danger with fan shows, for once they become popular, the owners stop being honest, and feel that they must be diplomatic, as to avoid pissing off the studios and others. Back to quality controls, again, by making good/great movies, that is how you sell toys. The film, as with TFA, is populated with 2-dimensional cardboard cut-out place holder characters, waiting for someone to fill them in. They are all tropes, with no definition, the sign of an inexperienced, and poor writer. Rian Johnson has delivered a series of Mary Stu and Gary Stu characters, with no real character arcs or reliable personalities, just set ups for arcs, that are never realized, or are poorly handled when they are realized, and no one along the production line stopped him. Where was Kathleen Kennedy to step in and enforce some much needed quality controls??? What is she getting paid for??? ILM did its job, Skywalker Sound its job, and John Williams did his job, but where was she??? Essentially, in terms of visuals and audio, Lucasfilm runs itself, they are going to deliver quality effects, sound and a competent to great film score, but Kennedy has the job that is meant to be the glue, for all she had to do, her single most important task, was to provide a good to great script, one that honors and builds on the original characters, yet she failed to show up??? She has had years, to work on a 120 page script, and this is what we got, this low level trash with holes like Swiss Cheese??? You can tell within a mere 1 to 2 page outline, if the final story and script will be worthy, and most great writers can author an outline within a few minutes, to a few days, so how is it, that she read the outline for TLJ, and said to herself, "Now this will make a great film! We need to make this movie, with this filmmaker, now!" She has proven that she does not understand good writing, or she would have stopped Johnson and said, "You are a hired gun director, and we appreciate you, but this is our movie, and thus, your story and character arcs, need some major fixes, and here they are." As I have stated elsewhere, Kennedy and others at Lucasfilm/Disney, have been widely distracted by "Star Wars Anthology" films, instead of using the whole of their resources and man/woman power/minds, in a concentrated effort to get the final trilogy right, resulting in watered down and uneven trilogy films, and watered down and uneven anthology films. It is a shame, and suggests rushed greed and inborn incompetence, over thoughtful reasoning. The fan theories that Rey is a Palpatine, and is Vader's reincarnation are much better. Imagine Luke saying to Rey, upon their first meeting, "You are not here, for me to teach you, you are here to teach me! You are the reincarnation of a very powerful and wise Jedi." That said, Luke won't reveal the name, as it might serve to confuse her. Then later, in a time of need, during the climax, he reveals that she is Anakin/Darth Vader, and his father. She needs to recall herself, from another life, in order to fight Snoke and Ren. When she does tap into those memories of Anakin's mother, Qui Gon Jinn, Padme, Ben, Yoda, Palpatine, Vader and even Luke rescuing him from the dark side, it is only then, that Rey is able to unleash her full force powers. Now that would have been a great story/film, and would have explained Rey's advanced abilities. Instead we received the meaningless mush, which is "The Last Jedi", and worse, you cheer it???

We have never seen Luke, in a real romantic situation, as he was denied that with Leia. Character arcs, featuring love, have great depth. The same with religion, and other similar weighty material that has to do with Existentialism versus, Fate, Destiny, Religion and God . They serve to give a character flaws, but also massive tests, and something to lose, gain, or protect. They also give the audience something to relate to. Everyone has fallen in love, had that love threatened, fought for that love, threw it away, earned it, regretted it, was betrayed by it, or was thankful for it. This is an important arc that we never saw Luke go though, and an important part of life, for it completes a person--it's about 50 percent of who we are, maybe more. People, especially adults, are sexual beings, and thus, we get lonely, as human beings/souls. Holdo, should have been Mara Jade, or carried out her story arc. I think the greatest flaw of the Jedi, is that they wouldn't allow themselves to love, just to reason. Anakin, would have been better, if he was allowed to love his wife openly, but he hid it because of Jedi laws, and that ultimately pushed him toward Palpatine. Think about this. What if Holdo's storyline, her character arc, was given to Leia? It would have made for a stronger movie and a better exit for Leia. I love Laura Dern, but why not free her up, to confront Luke on the planet, and convince him to train their daughter Rey. If Hondo was a Palpatine, and her and Luke's daughter, a mix of Vader's bloodline and that of the Emperior, that would have been boss. I could imagine Luke refusing to train Rey, and then Hondo, who is trained in the ways of the Jedi and the Sith, does it. Eventually, Luke sees his error, only after both women leave the planet to aid the New Republic, and Luke follows in his X-Wing, in order to save all that he loves. A Jedi wouldn't necessarily do that, but a man who is in love, and who loves his wife and child, would do anything to save them. Let's remember, if they Jedis had saved Anakin's mother from slavery, she wouldn't have died, and Anakin wouldn't have becomes Vader. His mother's unnecessary death, caused him to fear death, and fear losing his his wife, thus he tried to protect Padme from death, by betraying the Jedi, so that he could stop people from dying, beginning with Padme, and their child (children). As per Luke, during the climax, he created an elaborate illusion, and died from using so much energy, in creating that illusion. How very stupid! I can prove it. Why did Luke not simply create an illusion that caused the First Order forces to see each other as the enemy, that being New Republic forces, causing them to attack each other, in place of attacking the New Republic armies and/or fleet? Rian Johnson has created a series of plot holes like that. Further, Holdo failed to inform Poe of her plan. That led to Poe sending Finn and Rose on a mission, that ultimately caused the New Republic forces to be sold out and destroyed. If Holdo had simply shared her plan, which she had no reasons to hide, none of this would have happened. That is called bad writing. If Holdo had shared her plan, then the whole trip to the Casino Planet would never have happened, and is ultimately made unnecessary. It was a forced side plot. Then there was Rose preventing Finn from sacrificing himself to save the New Republic forces. If Luke hadn't stepped in, Rose's actions would have aided the First Order and gotten all of the New Republic forces killed. The Star Wars would have been over in that event, due to Rose aiding the enemy. Rose was a wholly unnecessary character, who was forced into the plot, and the same with Holdo, as Leia should have carried out the latter's character arc.

I thought it dropped some pretty hard hints that Holdo did in fact suspect a spy in their ranks, it literally shows Finns face immediately after they figured out that they were being tracked. Poe also didn't tell Holdo HOW they were being tracked, so she kept here assumption there was a leak which gives her a legit reason to be secretive.

Ted Dunnam I thought there was a leak, as well. I was sure it was going to be Rose. I listened to a KZbin video about a year ago that gave detailed info on a supposed script leak. I am pretty sure it wasn’t legit, but there were a ton of clues leading to there being a double agent, and she was the best candidate. It seemed as though this plot point was changed at the last minute, but the clues were left in. Could be because I was expecting it to happen, but didn’t. I’ll have to see it again.

Yes Poe, the commander who blew up the starkiller base in TFA, the guy who risked his life to blow up one of the first order's dreadnaught class destroyer in the beginning of the movie to save the resistance is a spy, brilliant detective work by Haldo, like if she suspected a him to be a spy why would she not have told any of the other people who joined him in his mutany that she actually had a viable plan, this is just trying to create conflict because of a lack of communication which is lazy writing
@faustopancake234

Man Of The Dan No, she thought Finn might be a spy or might have a tracker implanted that he didn't know about. Finn and Poe are buds ya know. Also she wasn't singling Poe out, she was playing it close to the vest with everyone just in case. Smart commanders do that sometimes, even if they don't suspect a spy. It's called "show don't tell" writing, it's the exact opposite of lazy, and it's more satisfying than being spoon-fed the plot to most people. Guess you are just the type that likes things to be spoon-fed, that's ok, just don't get mad at other people for liking something different.
@danielsnyman8501
@danielsnyman8501 7 жыл бұрын
Ted Dunnam Sure if she had mentioned the fact that Finn was originally a trooper for the FO and therefore could be a spy of some sort for them then your point that she suspected him may have been valid ,but she didn't and not only that i don't think she even mention Finn at all during the entire movie. Also of all people to have mentioned the plan to it would have been Poe the former commander of their fleet who is hotheaded and prone to solving problems himself ,as shown in the beginning of the movie in which he ignored Leia to destroy the dreadnaught, and besides not telling anyone the plan makes no sense due to the fact that everyone is going to find out regardless when they get on the small ships as she was commanding them to do. This is not "something different " but rather a stupid leap in logic that is solely used to have Finn and Rose engaged in a pointless subplot and have everyone down on the Hoth like planet for the third act. BAD WRITING!

Without spoilers: I can forgive two characters having a story that literally affected nothing at all. I can forgive Luke doing...what Luke did. I don't even mind the aggressively cute merchandise ads in the form of the Porgs or whatever they were called. What I can't forgive is how uninteresting the movie was. Fan theories sounded nuts and cool and interesting, and I'm not a Star Wars fanboy. What we got instead was a movie that felt totally interchangeable with the Star Trek reboot movies or, God forbid, a DC superhero movie. It was just a pretty generic action movie with some super powers and cool laser swords. I had a ton of faith in the movie seeing how Disney is treating the Marvel heroes these days. Instead of them all feeling the same, we're getting some really weird and awesome movies. Dr. Strange was inception-esque, and Ragnarok was this wacky, buddy cop comedy in space. Taking those risks, why couldn't Snoke have been Plagius or why couldn't Rey reject the Jedi teachings and use both sides of the force. Really, anything that would've made people who know the lore even a little excited to see the movie

According to director Rian Johnson, the Porgs were the result of puffins being native to Skellig Island where the Achto scenes were filmed. They were unable to move them as they are a protected species and it would've been too time consuming and expensive to edit them out of the shots, so Rian decided to create a new indigenous species and simply CGI over the puffins.

Marvel needs to approach Fantastic 4 as period pieces. Heroes existed between Steve Rogers being in the ice and Tony Stark becoming Iron Man (Hank Pym existed was The Ant-Man). Do two films (one in 1961 and one in 1971) and to bring them into the current period through a form of time travel (they are retired or dead in the current period) to be in Avengers 5 in which Galactus is introduced. You can also introduce Silver Surfer and Namor in these films (the cheese factor of Namor in the 60's works).

Luke projected himself in the final fight to become the literal symbol that hope is untouchable, but the effect of hope can be felt across a galaxy. And the death of hope can never come by the hand of tyranny. Luke utterly demoralized the First Order and did so completely without violence as a true Jedi should. Luke's actions in this movie truly proved that he's the Legend everyone thought he was and needed him to be.

THEY GOT LUKE EXACTLY RIGHT first let me say I am a huge SW OT fan and will gladly force fx lighsaber fight anyone. I loved this movie and it was a masterpiece. Absolutely brilliant. I was on the edge of my seat the whole movie. Made me laugh cry and get chills. The best part by far is that it was unpredictable. I am tired of seeing the same old tropes over and over and knowing how it ends before it begins. Its been a long time since Ive seen a movie take me by surprise as much as this one did. Give Mark Hamil and Adam Driver oscars. Nothing is what it seems sums up everything about the theme of this movie. Definately the smartest Star Wars script in a long time and maybe thats why some people hate it. I expected nothing less from the guy who gave us looper etc. Even when Rey went for the lightsaber and snoke hit her in the head, Luke is a projection, the force is not a power you have, fan theories, finn about to sacrifice himself but gets saved by Rose...hell even the whole find the code breaker plotline was all about how nothing is as it seems. Disney can have all my money and Kathleen Kennedy is my hero now (sorry bruce lee). There are 3 groups of people who hate this movie and they were going to hate it no matter what : red pill guys...because this movie has women in it, crybaby nitpicky fans who want the impossible sequel to ROTJ (Red3 in space) and finally snoke fans. J/k just the people who wasted the last two years on stupid fan theories. nothing will make you happy because deep down what you want... what we all wanted was a new adventure with luke han leia .... we wanted a sequel to return of the jedi. And anything that doesnt meet that criteria must automatically be terrible. But its too late. They are too old. THIS PERFECT IDEALIZED STAR WARS SEQUEL WITH THE ORIGINAL CAST IS NOT POSSIBLE AND NOT GOING TO HAPPEN get over it. Put all your cry baby selfish rose colored nostalgia goggles away it is embarassing. My favorite thing of the whole movie was Luke and especially the showdown. He grew up a farmer in the middle of nowhere and his only mentors were jedi masters who became hermits while the empire kept doing its thing. Makes sense he would do the same. It was epic! The showdown was perfect! He showed kylo how powerful he really was, humiliated him, and did it as true representation of what a jedi should be. It was better than I imagined and it even reminded me of the sarlaac pit scene because of the tension and Lukes confidence. Plus his whole han solo line! One last F U to Kylo Ren. Beautiful. He comes full circle, finds inner peace and becomes one with the force. I still get goosebumps thinking about it. Why was he an illusion? Its very Jedi! Think of Alec Guiness obiwan using mind tricks monster roars and misdirection to get passed stormtroopers and sand raiders. He only resorted to violence as a last resort and even then...only defended himself and 'disarmed' (get it?) His opponents. And those who think he would never think about killing ben in his sleep have clearly forgotten all about return of the jedi! Luke didnt want to save Vader he wanted to kill him for Obi wans death. He only wanted to save him after he found out it was daddy! Then Luke became conflicted...dressing like a sith and force choking gammorrean guards! HE EVEN GIVES IN TO THE DARK SIDE! HOW DID YOU FORGET THAT! ITS THE FUCKING CLIMAX OF THE MOVIE AND LIGHTSABER FIGHT! All fight they keep prodding Luke to get angry and give in. He resists until Vader threatens Leia and thats what makes him snap, give in the dark side (anger hate aggression) has an evil look on his face...until he notices the hand! THAT WAS THE WHOLE FUCKING BEAUTY OF THE MOVIE! THEY EACH SAVED EACH OTHER FROM THE DARK SIDE!!!!!!! WHICH COMES BACK TO THE WHOLE MESSAGE BEHIND STAR WARS "ITS NOT ABOUT FIGHTING WHAT YOU HATE ITS ABOUT SAVING WHAT YOU LOVE!!!!!!! " DUH!

Left clues? When I go somewhere I usually let people know where I am going and leave a number. What I dont do is remove my destination from google, split the information in 2 pieces and then hide the pieces. As for Luke being a coward ...I address in my comment below how Luke has given into dark temptations in ROTJ. Hey do you think Obiwan and Yoda are cowards? Why didnt obiwan go all lightsaber crazy on the death star? He is strong enough. Instead he used misdirection and mind tricks and avoided violence. How crazy is that? Why would any religious monk hermit who believes in peace leave violence as a last resort? What? Its like these wise jedi masters think the force is supposed to be for knowledge, defense and not attack. Ridiculous I tell ya.

My theory about the basic outline of Episode IX is that there's going to be a timeskip, a major one, like 30 or 40 years later. The ending of the Last Jedi symbolically hints at that: The little boy who's force sensitive and has a resistance ring symbolizes a bright future that we can expect. Also the fact that Rey stole the Jedi sacred texts implies that she is interested in restarting the Jedi Order by herself (or with the help of Leia). And that will take years and years to consolidate as well as the resistance will take years to rebuilt itself from the ashes (they ended up with nothing at the end of the movie). I just can't see where they could go from where we left off - there is virtually nothing for them to do now, other than hide for some time. Hence the necessity of the timeskip. Plus, it's the perfect elegant way to kill off Leia - she died of old age and you could give her a huge statue inside the new Jedi temple that she helped to build.

I took it to mean they were meaning not an actual cloaking device but a cloak from sensors. Although it should be said that this is 30 years after Empire, technology improves. In the EU by this time they had cloaking devices on star fighters, so for me it was fine. (Never forget the TIE Phantom!)

Luke projected into the battle is so much better than him physically being there. Yes you could have had him taking on 500 laser blasts at once, but could you see Alec Guiness as Obi Wan doing that? No way, he's creating a distraction for his friends as well as teaching one final lesson to his failed pupil that the force is more than just fighting with laser swords, now he's one with the force Kylo cannot fight him. He's literally untouchable in that scene like Obi Wan surrendering to the force in ANH.

The worst part of Last Jedi is it makes the wait for 9 not fun. 80-85% of the fun of FA was speculation and rumor and hope and theory it was like being a kid again....then they threw that all away. Now I'm just waiting for 9...I don't want to do any of that other stuff cuz why? I don't want to get excited cuz it doesn't matter.

Brian Rokosz Perhaps, that's the point. Fans have always been speculating such nonsense, that when the reveals actually transpire they're often disappointing or beyond what you anticipated. Which, I must add, is why this film was so divisive. That's why this film basically tells the audience, it doesn't matter. Origins and the past doesn't serve any relevance to to the overall plot, and, ultimately, all of these mystery boxes are frivolous. Furthermore, a lot of people HATED the fact that TFA had too many questions and not enough answers. This film is the complete opposite. I agree I don't have anything to speculate about, but, instead, we got a conclusion that's solid and satisfying. There are no questions, the film ended on an optimistic note. In the meantime, we've got two years of other films to watch and enjoy. Plus, there's more to your life than speculating if the Knights of Ren will appear in the final installment.

Dead Meme this doesn't have questions? It's literally a blank slate from here.... They reset the entire universe in the middle of trilogy!!! And the reason people are pissed is that they set up all these questions in episode 7...for ep 8 to not even say you are wrong, it said your speculations are pointless. That's not fun. Further more, the issues with EP 7 and having questions wasn't about cliff hangers, it was questions about the universe starting at the opening crawl and through out movie. Leaving with questions about next installment is fine, and expected in series. Having questions throughout the movie about what is going on is bad.

snipegrzywa So, you guessed wrong, and now it’s not fun anymore? You sound extremely butt hurt over it. Also, it’s not saying your speculation was pointless, it just saying that 99% of people were wrong with their theories. It’s too bad that this makes it not fun for you. I enjoyed it so much because I had theories that I was sure were right, but I wasn’t. That honestly made it better. To each their own, I guess.

Lamashtar Another invalid argument. So Luke was the completely good, completely having his shit together Jedi that we thought he was 34 years ago? His story arc makes total sense. The only thing that didn’t make sense was Leia turning into Mary Poppins. I’ve seen it a second time and it didn’t bother me nearly as bad as it did the first time. All the other choices also make total sense. You may not have liked them, but it does make sense.

My idea for how Ep 9 begins: It's five years later, and the new rebellion is fighting the Imperial Order in a big space battle. Camera focuses on Poe in his X-Wing leading his squadron against opposing forces. We see the main Rebel ship take heavy damage and explode despite his efforts. General Leia is gone, and the rebel forces retreat in shock. We next see the new rebel base on Endor, and a later funeral of Leia on Naboo.

We already had one of our OT heroes die in a very violent way. Luke went out with "Peace and purpose". Plus....his X-Wing was entrenched in the ocean, he probably couldn't get off the island if he wanted to. There really was no need for him to be on Crait. Him using an astral projection made for such an exciting and unpredictable scene. He died peacefully facing two suns, the same way he began his journey.

I'm sure someone has said this, but Strikeforce Morituri wasn't part of Marvel's New Universe. It ran at the same time (1986-1989), but was published under the Marvel brand, although it was it's own universe, not connected to the Marvel U. I really liked some of the ideas of the New Universe (aside from the lame black-framed covers and weirdness like Kickers, inc.), but never got into Strikeforce Morituri. Maybe I'll look those up now...

I know that these days movies are trailers that have been padded out. The film was so good, I don’t understand why people want the movie spoiled by trailers? Remember when Hitchcock used misdirection when Psycho came out and everyone loved it because they got to enjoy an epic movie fresh? Now people want 3 different 4 minute trailers with all the important information and best action in it. I should clarify, Psycho was a masterpiece of film and should be preserved like the Mona Lisa in my opinion and The Last Jedi was a good enjoyable film, I’m not comparing the movies at all

Johnny Crypto It will take a miracle. The new heroes are ultra-weak and un-relatable: Mary Sue, spoiled Ben Solo & buffon Hux. The irrelevant runaway janitor and his new irrelevant mechanic girlfriend. Poe the idiotic leader & the zombie Princess (who can no longer be put onscreen) ... meanwhile the guy who was behind everything (the 1st Order, the quest for Skywalker, the genocide of billions of people on the Republic planets, etc.) is dead without meaningful reason ... and the sole "real" hero left in the story (after a 30 year wait and a two years cliffhanger) was a whiny grumpy old guy living in squalor, drunk on sea cow milk ... and he died teleworking through the Force ... there is nothing left. NOTHING. JJ Abraams would be better-off giving-up all this trash and start fresh, but contracts were drawn already, so this next installment is going to happen. I would be shocked if that next movie gets a huge opening week-end if they don't find a way to undo some this mess. They allowed Rian Johnson to painted them into a corner. Worse, they gave him his own three Star Wars movie-saga deal (mind blowing!).

The light-speed kamikaze mission makes no sense. First of all, it's not "light-speed' it's hyperspace. Star Wars has never been clear about its physics. But if spaceships can collide with objects within normal space while they're in hyperspace, then how are spaceships able to travel across so many light-years of the galaxy?

%92 is from all critics not a select few, that's not how RT works, check it out on their website they break it down. As for the audience score, it's extremely unreliable as people can flood it with votes without ever having seen the movie, so as I said the Cinemascore is the only truly accurate way of gauging people's reactions who just saw the film. If the prequels also got an A in their day then that's fine, just means folks enjoyed their time at the movies.
