@@wayseekerspod I had mixed feelings. Definitely loved the planets the story was set on, but after watching what they did with Han, I was ready for something different with Luke. Something that would make the previous sense of crushing disappointment worth sitting through. I am 43, and got the Star Wars trilogy for Christmas when I was a kid. Began reading the comics and books afterwards. Seeing the final fate of Han and Luke and the Skywalker family was disappointing. Especially now that the Skywalkers are all gone. I don’t object to the sort of story they were trying to tell. Just wish they had found a different way to tell it that didn’t erase Han’s character development, and turn what, to me, was the ultimate hero and optimist into what he became. I refuse to become someone who is full of hate, and obsesses over how much I didn’t like the movies, but I feel a little sad, especially over Luke. He was a timeless hero, like King Arthur or Superman, and I wanted to see him fade into the sunset. Just not the way he did in TLJ.

I think it is because they feel hurt by what happened to some of the characters. TLJ is a timeless piece of storytelling, right up there with King Arthur, Robin Hood, and Bat Man. Many felt stung by what became of their heroes that they grew up with.

It's so refreshing to see Star Wars fans talk about TLJ positively. I think it was a good film. People just couldn't accept that their hero may fail, then tried to justify their hate by picking apart the rest of the film. I get both sides, honestly. However, it does seem like the folks just mad about Luke are lacking that big picture and nuance.

Rian Johnson is good at taking traditional genres and putting a twist on them. The problem is, taking a movie like Star Wars, putting a twist on it, and making it comedic, turns it into Spaceballs, not a good Star Wars movie. It's like going to see a James Bond movie and getting an Austin Powers movie. It's not that it's bad, it's just that it's not what people expected or wanted.

Rian Johnson should be holding up another card: DO YOU MISS ME YET??? As a fan who has just NEVER liked the last jedi and NEVER will, i have to ask this here. What i don't get is if Luke and his sister Leia knew of the threat that was "Snoke" beforehand, some years ago while Ben was young. WHY then would Luke walk inside that hutt, focused on the darkside brewing in his nephew?? that just does not make any sense to me. WHY would't Luke Skywalker, as a "Jedi Master" by this point, simply not use his wise knowledge and foresight, and simply realize the very individual that was corrupting and really poisoning is most gifted student and nephew; that is Snoke!? And simply go and confront him?? And sorry but for anyone looking to answer with the old, cynical argument - "Because this is soo Not the all-powerful, all-wise badass Luke Skywalker you remember from your Legends stories. this is a more broken, more Realistic version of Luke Skywalker." LOL If you try to use that argument then YOU don't know George Lucas Starwars, and you've just proved a big contradiction. Because "Old Ben Kenobi" had been through so much more trauma, heartache, loss than Luke; especially if we consider everything he goes through during the CW series. Yet Kenobi is not all broken, dissillusioned, disheartened and emasculated when we catch upto him years later on tatooine. He's kept his faith in the Force, he's done exactly what Yoda instructed of him, sat on that desert planet watching over Luke, waiting patiently for the day to come when "A New Hope" is ready to rise and help take the fight to the Empire. So Luke's overall behaviour and the state where we find him in during the last jedi simply does not make sense. Also a much young Luke who returned back home to find his aunt & uncle torched to the bone, charred skeletal bodies laying outside the Skywalker homestead. Does this break the young Luke? No. It spurs him into action to take up the fight and he finally joins Old Ben on his damned crusade against the Empire. the point i'm making here is i've spoken to many a sequels, last jedi fan over these few years about this, and they all say pretty much the same thing. that i'm looking at it all wrong, and Rian did a more "Realistic" take on Luke Skywalker, as a much older version. He's more inspired by how WE all mostly end up when we reach our 40s & 50s lol. Only, *Star Wars* is Not based on REAL LIFE. It's "Fantasy", it's alway meant to be "Space Opera". the only level of Realism is in it's whole "Used Future". where most starships look run down because the idea is meant to be this is all set in a fantasy galaxy, "A long time ago, in a Galaxy Far, Far Away." Luke having this brokeness from a sheer moment of weakness, walking into his nephews hutt and contemplating killing him for leaning toward the darkside; ESPECIALLY when Luke knew full well by this point who "Snoke" was, and that it was him behind corrupting his nephew is seriously BAD Writing! Also equally bad and really just pathetic that he does all this and gives up, when he knew full well Snoke was out there, and leaves this threat of Snoke in the Galaxy, for his sister to face alone. this is Rian's weak argument, he said it himself, from Luke's point of view, he felt the Jedi caused more problems, and brought about the Sith in the Galaxy through their dogmatic ways. So Luke decided it was ultimately time for the Jedi to end, and felt by not getting involved would be the better option; only it was already too late by then, because Snoke was already out there amassing his forces. Rian Johnson proves he knows zip about Starwars lore. I don't doubt he's a lifelong "Star Wars Fan" and played with those figures as a kid, but he grew up not fully understanding the actual lore. I'm not in any way saying Luke should not have "Failure", or have flaws, George Lucas's own treatments of his Sequel trilogy (that Disney stupidly rejected) were all about a "much older Luke Skywalker having befell some tragedy that caused him to go into self-imposed exile". Infact Lucas Himself was rumored to be playing around with the idea of his older Luke Skywalker being inspired by "Colonel Kurtz" from his old friend Coppola's - "Apocalypse Now!" Film. If Disney had just stuck to "Faithfully" Adapting Lucas's treatments like they were supposed to have done, and not bastardized his ideas from his treatments. Like - "Oh we'll just cherry pick what we like from these story treatments, we'll take the Female Protagonist idea, so we can pander to the Feminist crowd. And we'll take the iconic Luke in exile idea, and just make up the rest as we go along; it'll be fine, starwars fans will lap it up as long as it has pew! pew! plenty of laser-swords and space battles lol. We got this!" Yeh i'm ranting but i have no problem with Luke this iconic hero i grew up with having some tragedy beset him, and/or having flaws, but the way inwhich Rian wrote Luke and his deliberately Vague backstory between him and Ben Solo for the last jedi flashbacks was horrid; and comes off as nothing more than a Character Assassination. All the Canto Bight, Holdo Manourver, Humor in the wrong places, slow Resistance bombers, green milk, i'm Leia Poppin Y'all!! aside; the straw that breaks the last jedi back is the vague Luke/Ben Solo backstory.

Did you make a 2-hour video to convince people that a terrible movie by all consensus... was somehow, actually good? I give you credit, it's pretty ballsy to be that narcissistic. Best of luck with all that.

Why not? If a bunch of memes about how bad the prequels are can convince some people that the prequels are good, people can be convinced of anything.

If you don't see the irony of saying I don't know the meaning of the word narcissistic, while you devoted hours of video to definitively propagate your view that somehow everyone else is wrong... then it suggests you're also a bit myopic. Want proof? Does your headline read why I/we think The Last Jedi actually was a good movie? I'm being generous and assuming there may be more of you behind this channel because If it isn't, then that only further proves my point. Or does the thumbnail emphatically state "YOU (meaning anyone else who doesn't share your view of the film) WERE WRONG"... Which presupposes your correctness? Why split it into right or wrong when you simply could have shared your opinion about why you enjoyed it. I don't have a problem with you enjoying the film. To each their own, but clearly, there's nothing wrong with my understanding of the word. However, you might want a refresher. Unless you were simply trying to be "clickbaity." Care to confirm?
