The flash back starts with him going under water during his baptism, and ends with him coming back up with that happy smile, completely unaware of all the pain he would go through in his life. It just hits you right in feels.

In the end he realizes if it was worth it all because of what he lost. A question for him that will forever go unanswered. But he did what he had to do regardless of it all. This is true Honor. Whoaw I actually cried during this ending and I never cry for a tv-show, a movie perhaps but not a show. I must also say after all this time I've always thought that Wessex was the "last kingdom" now I know it was Northumbria. Such a powerful endning and story and now it finally ends. What an adventure it was everyone! Vikings believed that you are responsible for your own destiny. While christians believe that you put everything into god’s hand and he will deliver. This is what seperates the two faiths, and its quite interesting because I believe in both ways.

You become part of each and every character, feel the pain, the joy, the victories the defeats and death by death it feels like you lose parts of you, until the end when you feel whole again even if you are broken in so many pieces. I just saw the last episode yesterday. My God, what a journey. Few series have caused such impact on me with their conclusion. I love how a series with such relatively limited resources managed to deliver a much better ending than others with way more budget like Game of Thrones. I hope the upcoming movie does not ruin it.
