To be honest, I felt like, Aethelflaed betrayed Uhtred here. Half of the season he spends his time keeping her child save and furthering her interest and then she choses to trade his daughter away. No matter how much he does, his wellbeing will always come last for the house of Alfred.

Rulers have to make tough decisions for the good of all. They have to have a certain ruthlessness. Emotion should not come into it and one man should not sway the decision. That's just the reality of leadership. She probably was right.

I assumed it was because Stora was ok with it. Also it's implied that Stora is either what would be an adult in those times, or very close. So she could make her own decision (or was nearly there in age).

@@AllieB-11.11 he is only in the later books, once Uthred becomes a father and the children have grown up to be near adulthood. (mid-teens by our standards) Sigtryggr also dispplays every possible trait for a good leader in the books. Axe-bitten, worried about getting his men home with a proper haul to show they were successfull, lack interest in throwing other people's lives away, believes in himself completely. In many ways, he is just like Uthred

I have a daughter too, & she is the reason for living. Last year, my little girl got married, & 'giving her away' was the best day of her life, & though it was difficult for me, seeing her so happy that day made me happy for her. It was when it was time for our father-daughter dance, is when the tears started... We danced to 'Sweet Child o Mine', & as soon as the song started, I was balling like a baby. I'm don't really get emotional often, but seeing my little girl that happy, my heart just melted, & the tears came out like it was raining. I don't know why I just blabbered all that ,but my point is that the father-daughter connection is palpable, & when you get to that point, STEVEN, you'll find out...Just make sure you have something to dry up the tears, 'cause they're gonna come out like the rain. And it's coming sooner than you think! Enjoy your little girls why they're young. They grow up faster than you can believe. ... Sorry for the rambling, but I can't help it when it's about my little baby. Btw, it's not over either, because now I have a granddaughter, & another on the way!!! ... Here we go again!!! Brida thinks she's in charge and only concerned about her selfish revenge. She didn't care about the welfare of the Danes at all. Sygtryggr was a real leader and smart thinking about the future of the Danes. That's why the they followed him.

I think you can sum up all of Edward’s actions as “what would Alfred think?” as opposed to “what would Alfred do?”. Also, I think a lot of Uthred’s choices can be summed up when he tells Sigtryggr “they are my people” about the Saxons; Uthred may prefer the Danes culture and way of life, but he has always felt in his bones that he is Saxon, like Leofric told him once, which is why Uthred has never truly gone back to the Danes.

I love how we now like Aelswith and we have Eadith who's a great addition and now there's Sigtryggr who we'll see in S5, and well Edward is just exhausting as usual 🙄. If you haven't heard, there's a TLK sequel movie coming 4/14!!! It's called 'Seven Kings Must Die' & it's going to continue the story of UHTRED!! ...And the other characters from the show. The show is based on a book series, & every season is from a book. The movie will cover the 6th book, but there's 9 books, so maybe we'll see more movies, as long as people watch the movie! So, please make room for the movie, & get the word out so we can get all the stories!!! Love you guys, & can't wait to see how the movie continues UHTRED'S story! 🤘😁

There are 13 books. Each season covers 2 books. But the movie is supposedly the last 3 books. Also quite a few differences between the books and the shows’ depiction. If anyone hasn’t I’d recommend them. Cant wait for the movie! Destiny is all!

It pissed me all the way OFF how Aethelfled and Edward could just give up Uhtred's daughter like that!! Ordinarily, I'm all for the rational decisions ie, sacrificing one girl for a kingdom's peace is distasteful but reasonable. HOWEVER, given that Uhtred spends almost half the season protecting Aethelfled's kid whilst putting both of his own in danger, and literally JUST sacrificed himself for Edward's sons, it was incredibly callous of them. I'd always given them a bit of grace because "What could they do, I guess" but as someone said, they never even bothered to bring Uhtred back in to ask his opinion. We don't even know for sure if they asked Stiorra (a teenage girl) if she actually wants to go with this GROWN ASS MAN?? They were just like "Welp, whatever I guess 🤷". Dunno if I ever fully forgave Aethelfled for that. And Edward has the AUDACITY to saddle Uhtred with his own child, when the only thing that makes what he did to Uhtred even slightly redeemable, is that Stiorra wanted to go. Imagine if she didn't????

I was never worried about Uhtred going into the town to see Sigtryggr. I had been waiting for scenes between the two of them - it's like when Ragnar and King Ecbert used to talk in Vikings. They're of a similar outlook and mindset - was always obvious that Sigtryggr wouldn't harm him. Plus I guessed that Stiorra would go willingly with Sigtryggr even though Aethelflaed said she was to be taken as a captive. The show had signalled they liked each other during that scene when she was reading the Anglo Saxon Chronicle out to him - they were stuck in that palace for like 30 days and had obviously started to build a relationship. The actress looks young but I think we're meant to think of Stiorra as being about 18 or something so she wants to live her own life. Plus she's right that Sigtryggr has been gentle to her - he has been nothing but nice - all 'cause he's this new generation of Dane.

If you notice we have heard nothing about Uhtred's third child, the baby that Gisela died after having. It's almost as if he doesn't exist. I really like Stiora and Sigtrigger together, I think it's a good pairing. When she talked about how gentle Sigtrigger was Uhtred realized that she was falling in love with him. The look he gave her was similar to the look he gave Biaanca when he realized that he was in love with Tura.

The fact that Nikki said I kind of like Elswith now is so emblematic of what an about face she did as a character. Stiorra and Uhtred are more alike than Uhtred and Uhtred. She's headstrong and doesn't follow what someone tells her. Aethelstan gets to have Uhtred as a father for longer than several of Uhtred's children. Edward is still the least deserving of the throne of Alfred's children. Brida. Just all Brida. I didn't want it to end either

This is precisely why Edward didn't want to rush into battle and leave Winchester undefended. You blaming it on Edwards terrible decision is confusing. Uhtraed and Aethelflaed forced Edward to make this terrible decision. That was the one thing he was correct about. Having said that he shows himself to be the most stupid character in TV history when he orders his cavalry to charge against a brick wall. I don't understand what the writers were thinking putting this in the script. It's kinda sad to see one of our great kings reduced to a reckless, selfish idiot.

agreed. And then attacking when he actually did have a plan (with the smoke and knocking down the gate) was the first smart thing he did and these guys were complaining about that. Edward and Aethelflaed were both right about that. The only stupid part of that plan was when they surrendered after already breaching the fortress. The Dane's had lost and had no grounds for negotiation at this point.
