Dont you guys think the show is shitting on Edward, or it's bad writing.. Because in real history he was great leader.. But the writers make him look incompetent..Same with Alfred.. The show keeps trying to say that Uthred saves the saxons all the time.. But Uthred story is completely fictional,,, in reality he doesn't appear until the 11th century, and his character is very different to this Uthred.

i think his plan was rush the gate ........but nothing was preventing them from closing it so that was a bad play .....i think the mongols did similar stuff but with more solid reason ie breach in the walls or the gate opened by some of there men keeping it open via siege ....edward wasnt thinking

Just a fun fact, but Sigtrygger was supposedly the grandson of Ivar the Boneless. Ivar died roughly 15-20ish years prior to season 4. He died in Ireland. It was briefly mentioned in Season One of The Last Kingdom ⚔️

Edith went from someone I was rolling my eyes at to someone I like enough to be like "Leave your brother to his fate!" Her brother was the worst, but the last thing he said probably saved her life. It doesn't make up for all the crap he did, but I think their codependency/care for each other was more obvious there than anywhere else. Stiorra is awesome in this episode. Her scenes with Sitryggr put me on edge at first until I realized she could hold her own.

Alfred learned kingmanship under his brother. He also did devious things to win. Edward hadn't the time to learn and as you say iis too emotional. He is fearful for his children and not thinking straight.

Sigtrigger is basically a young Uhtred. If you really look and compare them he acts and thinks like Uhtred does. Essentially Uhtred is fighting himself. As for Edward he acts like a spoiled brat then someone points it out to him and he backpedals and apologizes. It's obvious he didn't pay attention to his father and learn how to behave and handle things like a king. Not sure if that was a mistake Alfred made, letting him do what he wanted instead, or if he just didn't pay attention when he should have been. Either way it makes him look weak. Ragnar wasn't defeated in battle like the others did, he died at the hands of a coward so that's probably why he didn't include him.

On Edwards apologies, Edward saw his dad the way the kingdom saw him, not the audience. Edward pressures himself to be a strong king because he feels he can't live up to his dad's reputation. He sincerely wants to apologize, but he is afraid of sounding weak. So they come off as fake because he's trying to apologize while still sounding like he's in charge. Authenticity requires confidence and self acceptance and that's what Edward lacks the most. I don't love the character but I love the portrayal of a kid trying his best to be a king.

In the books on which the series was based there is also Ivarr Ivarsson, son of Ivar the Boneless, who is one of the antagonists of the third book (he is who makes Guthred's head to make Uhtred a slave) and Uhtred kills him. Unfortunately he was cut from the series same as his father Ivar the Boneless, who also appears in person in the books (but the Boneless was not an antagonist to Uhtred, who still was an child/teenager when Ivar was in England)

I've never understood Brida's motivation tbh. She wants revenge on all the Saxons. For what? She is a Saxon whose family was killed by Danes, who raised her until they were also killed by other Danes. Then she joined Ragnar and raided harmless Saxons all over Britian. Then Ragnar gets killed by his own Danish people and she doesn't leave, still hates the Saxons for some reason. Then she gets taken prisoner by the Welsh and blames the people she was trying to kill. Smh, Brida is a psycho and I don't get her character.

that's kinda the point Uhtred and Brida are the mirror images of each other. Uhtred learnt from his mistakes and his trauma made him better and stronger Brida never learned from her mistakes and her trauma corrupted and twisted her.

yay more the last kingdom. i love Sigtryggr, he’s one of my favorites as well, and he's also vey handsome too, but i love his character, just don't judge him too quickly that's all i'm gonna say. i come on here to always check and see if you uploaded a new reaction video to this show lol. such an amazing show, but damn Uhtred is fucking handsome, and with that long hair. i liked ragnar too so much. Uthred deserves so much, he gets everything taken from him, and he deals with so much. he's so strong mentally and physically. yeah brida pissed me off after a while. i wish they made more seasons, and i wish i could rewatch the show for the first time again, but this will do. please react to the show Wednesday after you're done.

even in the show Edward is a better king than Alfred in his own right. he's far more ruthless and brutal. from a military perspective he's a better king and Warrior but Alfred was better in terms of being a ruler and a leader. both are strong kings and are similar but both excelled better than the other in certain areas. Alfred and Edward where both the kings their respective eras needed them to be. Wessex at the time of Alfred needed a king who could negotiate with their enemies so they had Alfred England at the time of Edward needed a king who was ruthless and brutal.

Brida wants "revenge" on the Saxons for WHAT exactly??? The Danes are invading Saxon lands, not the other way around. The Danes were always the aggressors. They like to play the victims though, crying out in pain as they strike you. It was the same in Vikings. They'd invade England or France and then act all indignant when they lose a battle or somebody important dies as if they've been wronged. Brida is the worst. I absolutely hate this character.

The "I will be chaste!" plot point is a bitt too contrived for my taste. The obvious solution would have been for Uhtred, Lord of Mercia, to marry Aetheflaed, Lady of Mercia. The ealdormen would have obviously supported such a move. But then the "poor, poor Uhtred" trope would have been in jeopardy. Still a great show, though.

Vahalla race swapped and gender swapped an historical viking king. The Anne Boleyn series race swapped most of the cast and changed her story. The second barbarians series litterally changed Roman history and made them look stupid, it also added a Carthagiain who's culture had disappeared hundreds of years prior. The show vikin6g introduced shield maidens as viking warriors, when in reality they were called shield maidens because they stayed at home with the children,, They were not actual vikings.

the only gripe i have with season 4 is that they didn't do a very good Job at stating why Uhtred and Aethelflaed can't be together when if anything those two marrying would have solved everything and killed 3 birds with one stone. 1. it solves the problem of succession 2. strengthens the alliance with Wessex 3. gives Uhtred the resources and military might to take back Bebbanburg and Uhtred being the true Heir to Nothumbria would also give Alfred's bloodline a claim to Northumbria through any children Uhtred and Aethelflaed may have had. they could have had over 60% of England unified and under their command with just one move. but i guess the show had to stick to the real history in some capacity so i understand why they didn't take that approach i just wish they found a better way to justify why that blatantly obvious solution couldn't be used. Also thank god Stephan is starting to see how much of a tragic figure Edward is the reason why he's screwing up so much in season 4 is due to his inexperience compare him to Alfred who became king much MUCH later in life he was already in his 20s when he took the throne and he'd been around long enough to get a good grasp of how to do the job because he was his brothers top adviser (hand of the king so to speak). Alfred was also crowned prince (another reason why he was considered by the Witan over Aethelwold of whom was not a crowned prince). another thing Sigtrygger is cool and all but he's nothing more than a red herring.

Sorry Brieda fans but the actor that's plays her is horrible I think she's the worst actor on the show her fight skills suck and her acting is so cringe, they know Vikings had woman as warriors but why is Brieda the only woman with the Vikings I love this show but her story early was good but season 4 and 5 Brieda was awful, people wanna compare her to Lagetha she is not even close to the warrior and person Lagetha was in Vikings
