The documentary catpures the life of the last Kyrgyz nomads of the Afghan Pamir. Imprisoned between three borders, they have experienced famine, exile, war and persecution. The only place where they have found security and peace is the hidden depths of Central Asia. Despite the hardships and extremely inhospitable terrain, these people have managed to survive and maintain their traditional way of life against all odds.

A few years ago, the Kyrgyz government made efforts and did some trials to bring them (Pamir Kyrgyzs) to the Kyrgyz Republic and helped them to stay and live there. The government provided them with abode and created good conditions, so they have modern civilization. But regretfully, they were reluctant and no longer wanted to stay there, as they couldn't get used to the local way of life and left for home back to Pamir. Wherever you were, stay strong and safe, our brothers and sisters. We pray and proud of you. God bless you! Hello from Kyrgyzstan 🇰🇬

I guess they took a look at all the produce growing industry in Kyrgiztan and the use of automobiles, more emphasis on aquiring wealth and decided they just didn't want it. What they should have done was diversify more and get into care of all the "5 snouts". Even people in brutal mountain surroundings such as Zanskar (closer to Ladakh) know that all the bravery to crawl the mountains to the next closest developed country is at least worth migrating back and forth to for various needful reasons (set up trade agreement, seasonal work, ) if you can't reside permanently.....heck, I'd hate to encounter the Chinese army coming around the bend in the road and suddenly be separated from my Tribe and pressed into some kind of forced labor just because I didn't have a migrating and trade agreement with my ethnic homeland....

@bluespangle" "I cannot imagine how women..." Did you miss something "one-third" of women die in childbirth". That's why women are so expensive, that is why the price is 100 sheep for a bride. PS: I don't feel sorry for these people living the way they do. These people were very happy living the way they have for generations. By the way, these people were allowed to return to their way of life, and that's a Blessing. The North American Indians were removed "forcibly" to live on reservations and suffer permanently the kind of suffering these people were having in the short time the "social experiment" was in force.

Update: They will no longer be prisoners of the mountains soon. A brand new carriageway is under construction contecting Afghanistan with China through Wakhan corridor. Last month work came to a halt due to snow and cold. It is expected to finish before next winter. Also there are health clinics to be built after the completion of the highway. This video does not seem to be of a recent time. Now the place is already crowded by local tourists and construction firm workers. It's no longer as isolated.

Thank you to the whole team of producer for this insightful documentary. Life was hard, simple and challenging; however everyone looks healthier in body, mind and spirit comparing to the people in many western countries - materialistic way of life, drug, fashion, celebrity culture, mundane talk shows, magazines and newspapers on fame, wealth, football, Red Bull, formula 1.... Material wealth does not bring true happiness. People who can endure difficulties in life such as cold, scarcity of food, simple living ...will be able to survive in next life.

Very good information for the whole world know that these tribe exist. They must be enjoying their tribe so well, that they chose to be away from the modern community. With their values & culture for many years embedded to their mindset, it would be very difficult to change it - to live with the modern community. Only formal classroom education during their formative years can actually give them the mindset to accept change. Great video-info. Thank you for sharing. 60% of people on welfare are single mothers. So I'd say divorce or lack of marriage is the leading cause of poverty. Drug addicts and alcoholics make up most of the homeless population ( except that's changing now, many homeless are old people and the working homeless due to immigration driving up housing costs. Among other things.)

I saw this same kind of documentary 4 years ago? It is really up to them; everyone knew they deserved "help", and perhaps the best way of helping if they don't want to go back to Kyrgiztan is helicopter drops of supplementary food for the herds. The Kuchii are an insular group with more connection into Pakistan, but have a far richer area for grazing as they migrate north-south instead of east-west. This is the other tribe they would have most in common with as far as hardship or empathy, but the Kuchii have much more Pamiri features and bloodlines than an isolated Waki tribe. Personally I think the Waki need to stop seeing themselves as a separate group of Kyrgiz and start seeing themselves more as a part of the family of man. I don't think anyone is going to be in a hurry to take over their corridor grazing lands if they make an exit for awhile.

It is perhaps bad for them but for 1/3 of women it is worse, and the survival of the people is threatened. That said one wonders how they have survived till now if such issues are so persistent. The age of the nomads seems young, which is not the case in many countries, let alone nomadic communities. The social institutions seem to be functioning, ensuring the survival of the group even in very harsh conditions.

Nomads who want to cling to their lives should be encouraged, not transformed into something they don’t want to be. What Christianity has to do with this escapes me totally (see other comments). It is not excluded that Christian nomads existed at the time of the Aksumite kings (early christianity) in the eastern African Sahel, although today they tend to be Muslim. Nomads being Christian or not did not prevent states to try to sedentarize them at all cost. Yet real nomads do not care about state boundaries and are very protective of their way of life and their customs. Have you tried catching and keeping a wild bird? Eventually, it might languish and die in its “golden, modern” cage. That’s why nomads always try to break free. Maybe these nomads’ lifestyle is more “modern” than the most modern of all amenities you can offer them. I don’t want to live like a nomad, but for sure nomads have one thing or two to teach us… irrespective of their religion or non-religion.

After watching this video for 22 minutes, there's no doubt these people are being instructed by the video makers to "pump up the drama". Ordinary stuff these people been doing for hundreds of years suddenly becomes a life-threatening situation which must be discussed and explained, endlessly. That's when I decided this video is just a lot of "drama" that was never there until Slice Full Doc came on the scene. That kind of manipulation of my emotions is evil! My sorrow goes out to these folks that they were being used for the "gains" the video makers get while making this video. The video makers gains are based on lies and exaggerations. That's the real sorrow. By the way. Somewhere in past lives, I was living their way of life. These people have a bond between each other which is much much greater any pain or suffering they get along the way. There bonds are their strong medicine to soothe any-thing you guys call "hardships".

Okay, so if they don't brand the sheep and someone steals it or it wonders off into someone else's herd, how will you identify it? Especially if you have hundreds of sheep? A lot of sheep look very similar to one another

What, add to their worries by distorting the economy further, giving them enough to start ODing and fostering dependence. If they wanted to help it should have been in maternity and medical hygiene training. All that is mute though as this channel uploads old documentaries, they were not made by him.

They are Muslims? It is forbidden to exchange women as wives, swapping one woman for another, according to our village customs from the distant past. the Sheihk annulled the contracts of the two exchanged women, obliging their husbands to remarry them and provide their wives with their rightful dowry, even if they had children.

The are central Asian nomads, tradition and survival trump intellectualism and doctrinal nonsense. If I recall similar complaints were made when Turks first invaded the settled Muslims. Perhaps it they knew they would care.

Perhaps you could go to Turkey. There is a lot of land from when the Armenians were relocated. Abandoned. Maybe you could walk there little by little. Bringing your animals. Homes. Families. Perhaps the Afghans and Iranians will accept you. Passing through thier lands. Armenians will let you pass through to Turkey. Perhaps you can bring the old ways back. Early marriage. Hard work. Horse racing. Good health and happiness. Bring peace to the world.

It's not that bad at all. No worse than a tattoo. You're lucky you live in a land of plenty where you have more food variety than most anyone in the past. Once they ban gas and oil , that'll shrink down alot unless americans start gardening. But the government is outlawing that slowly too.

@@deborahdean8867 It is not at all like getting a tattoo. Would you have a branding iron seared into your flesh making permanent burn marks? They are known to hurt the cows and stay painful for 8 weeks after branding. It is animal cruelty.
