Dr. Suvdaa Barragchaa is an amazing woman and doctor. She is the embodiment of what a doctor should be. She could easily give up on the Tsaartan nomads and find patients who would pay her more. She’s committed to her family and her oath to her patients, whom she holds high in her esteem. She knows the important role they play in her country and culture. When she looked at her stroke patient, she knew that that probably could be the last time she saw him alive and he would probably prefer to die alone with his reindeer rather than in a village. That scene had me in tears!

Dr. Suvdaa has such heavy responsibilities for someone so young. Not only does she need to know a wide scope of medical knowledge, her patients are hard to reach and she’s often alone. In a community without phone connectivity, you have to rely on luck to find them in winter. I hope she continues to have many successful treatments.

What an incredible woman/doctor. The world needs more people like her. In our egoist society ( i live in northern europe) you do not see many people with the high moral and sense of responsibility that this young doctor shows. Doctors here do not work for less then 250 dollars a day in their warm office and still complain about stress and often treat pationt as if they are a nuisance.. I wish her all luck, i hope they will make more documantaries about her life. Good luck to you! you are an inspiration to many other.

This young lady should be talked about more. Doctors in the United States don’t do a very small fraction of what she does. All they care about is the money. This doctor cares.

"The top third of the class makes the best professors. The middle third of the class make the best doctors. The bottom third of the class make the most money." - so said my father, a physician in the USA, speaking about docs in medical school. There are plenty of doctors who are committed to serving. In the USA they are well compensated but that's incidental. And of course there are a large number who are trying to make as much money as possible.

Wow! What an incredible woman. These nomadic people are amazing. And they have such an interesting culture. Her work is her lifestyle.. She works so hard in difficult and harsh conditions. She gets paid the equivalent of $200 USD a month. Can you believe that? Think about it.. Most Americans pay their doctor $200 each visit. And another $100 which goes to the medical institution/medical center. Each visit is about $300 dollars. A visit can some times only last 20-40 minutes. That's absolutely ridiculous!

I have worked in the medical field as a nurse for 50 years in the US. Although it was strenuous, stressful and often low staffed I respect Dr. Suuvda and others like her so much. Can developed countries aid you in any way? I think of using drones to help find your patients or other technologies. Traveling with an assistant and maybe more supplies might also be helpful. Can a foundation be set up to help you and others doing this work? Meanwhile, every doctor and nurse in developed countries should have to view this during their education. It has been an honor to learn of you and your work. May God bless you and keep you safe always.

I think it has a slight exaggeration. However, Mongolia's population is small and sparsely populated in remote rural areas, so there are many human resource problems. In addition, vehicles cannot travel in the Mountain Taiga region, so it is necessary to go to the nomadic people on horseback or Reindeer. Under no circumstances are doctors sent alone. For areas where other vehicles are available, A team of 2 people, a driver, and a doctor, from Sum's Hospital go to the nomadic families by car to provide primary medical care. Depending on the severity of the patient's condition, arrangements are made for them to be taken to tertiary hospitals such as the hospital of Sum, the hospital of the province, and the hospitals of the city.

The Mongolia government could invest in five or ten Starlink satellite dishes and install them spread out in areas that the herds are likely to be at so that the herds can be easily located. AM radios are another method to locate these people rather than blind riding into the freezing cold forest. Having internet means that the children can be taught from a remote classroom. Also, the heart disease is more due to high consumption of meat and refined flour rather than the altitude. But it’s understandable because it is so cold and there’s not much else growing as far as vegetables.
