Cat fun fact! The standby switch works in a similar way to a kitten being held by it's mother. It makes the cat calmer, since it gives the cat the sensation of being held by it's mother again.

@@tornadoreaper I don’t think we’re on the same page The cat will physically go limp if you activate the “standby switch” While this is used for a cat’s mother to carry them around, it is unnecessary and unnatural for older cats They aren’t supposed to be experiencing this at this age and they cannot move which leaves them open for predators, so it stresses them out

I used to do some of the things on my 2nd cat. He did loved his belly rubs, I gave him his back paws massage, touch his whiskers, and gently did a motor cycle sound while twisting his ears. My cat was a big sweetie. He took a lot of stuff with me. I was the one that had a very special bond with him. He was one of a kind.

*ATTENTION, IMPORTANT!!!:* don’t use the last switch just for the fun of it! In nature, mama cats sometimes pick up little ones by their necks if they’ve been naughty. It can often be seen a form of punishment by a kitten, so don’t pick them up for no reason unless they’ve been naughty. Same thing with grabbing a dog’s muzzle, they see it as a punishment so don’t do it unless they’ve been bad.

Fun fact: last one is known as grasping by the “scruff” of the neck most kittens of varying species from big cats to house cats, this biological “stand by” switches purpose is to cause a completely temporary and safe paralysis like effect so the kitten does not injure itself while its parent moves them since cats don’t have hands with thumbs and as such must use their mouths

the standby switch is existing because mother cats should carry their kittens and the best way to do it is by grabbing their neck, and the kittens momentally stop moving for easier carrying, so thats why it exists

So for anyone saying the standby mode is from their kitten memory. Its half true. Scientist tested it on kitten that is taken from mother and cared until adult. They still show standby mode behavior. It is concluded that the trance is hardcoded in their DNA, not behavior based. Its not surprising, many animals have trance state that is not behavior, but DNA based. For example shark, shark can be made into hypnotised state if you put them upside down. They wont move and can even drown themselves.

Mine’s got a habit of being a bit more aggressive with his shows of affection(he was a feral I adopted as a kitten, never really got him tamed so much as used to people and living indoors), and he’s got a little switch at the top of his ribs. Anytime he gets too rough, I can just start scratching the tip of his rib cage and he just melts in my hand.

For the "standby mode" (grabbing their scruff): - NEVER lift a cat's weight by the scruff unless they're a small kitten. They'll be too heavy and it can hurt them - Only use it if you REALLY need to, like, if you need to take them to the vet and you can't coax them into a carrier without forcing them - Don't use a clip like in the video, that could pinch way too hard. Use your hand so you can feel the skin, make sure you're ONLY holding the skin, and that way you can use the minimum force needed

It's fine if you only pinch the skin and don't LIFT them by it, they're too heavy. Keep it to a minimum though, reserve it for important situations, not just for fun

the standby loses effect over time, but if you ever need them out of a place, the place is best to yoink (mine stopped rather smoll so easier for the yoink)
