Last Welsh coal train ran yesterday from Cwmbargoed, end of an era.

Does the train roll in from one side, and come out the other? Or reverse, or use a head shunt to change ends.. anybody know?

What stopped the tracks from being laid all the way to the mine?

That was the layout before the open cast was started, the coal was brought from other sites, but you are on top of mountain and the loading pad is on an incline were you got to power against the brake to stop over speeding over weighbridge.
