I'm surprised people aren't talking more about how Ellie's character has transformed. She's more like Joel was now-- more quiet and closeted, strategic, calloused, and a ruthless, seasoned killer. We could see this start to happen throughout the 1st game. And by the 2nd, it's evident Ellie is no longer the wildly energetic kid she was at 14-15. On the other hand, Joel became softer and more open to his emotions over the course of his journey with Ellie. I like the way Ellie and Joel were always influenced both by their circumstances and by each other. Realistic, dynamic characters are great.

This outcome of Ellie's loneliness is a powerful moment but the way the game gets to this moment is awful and stupid. Honestly, I felt betrayed, not because of the lame ass shock value but by how they expect us to be so dumb at remembering the first game, characters didn't just change or became dumber, they broke the characters traits after the timeskip and glued them on with saliva, but they also expect us to believe that abby and friends are the only ones after Joel's head, not that he killed any other npc outside of the fireflies for him to use very harsh measures in the previous game to survive, haha obviously not, because a world without any established type of big organization or government wouldn't have any issues with rogue groups of savages who would want to kill you on sight, very improbable lol, and also the way they forgot it was a zombie game and nearly neglected on it for how little they expanded on it's mechanics, but haha look at rope physics haha (we crunched our employees but don't worry the game is still somewhat playable). However the final nail in the coffin to me was not in the lame asspulls on the story, nor the story decisions or the poor ass zombie gameplay, it's the way that Naughty Dog marketed the game in a form that you would feel attached to it because you thought it was the continuation of a story you loved, Naughty Dog should have just put Abby on the front of the game since it forces you to sympathize with her even though both her and Ellie are equally as dumb and horrible. This game forced me to put incredibly low standards on sequels just so I never experience any type of disappointment in the level it made me feel. In short, the game is not "playing with your emotions", it's just acting like an edgy teenager trying to make you mad just because, and honestly I don't blame the asian content creator that broke the game after Joel's death, if I had not read the leaks and went in blind I would have done the same. But I will give them credit were credit's due, bigot sandwich guy could def wipe the floor with goku 100 I am glad that they could pull off such an incredibly strong character and motivation 11/10

Here's my conclusion about events that happened in the story Joel lost his own daughter in part 1. He didn't want to loose Ellie. Saving the world from infection didn't matter for him. Ellie was his whole world. So He killed a doctor (Abby's father) and lied Ellie. Over the years (flashbacks from part II) Ellie figured out that Joel had lied to her and hated him for it. But few days after the night's party she has finally forgiven Joel. Abby's plan. She made brought a lot of troubles on herself within WLF community. I took a vengeance over her loss and killed Joel not telling her boss about it. But she spared Ellie and Tommy as she thought she doesn't want have a more blood on her hands by killing uninvolved individuals. She was raised as good person, but though - SHEEP IN WOLF'S CLOTHING. But she sees Owen and Mel's death she gets mad. She finds Ellie's hideout. Injures Tommy, kills Jessie. She is about kill Ellie and finish it once for all. And Dina protects her putting her life and unborn baby life on the line. After Abby hears that Dina is pregnant, she is about to kill pregnant woman (EVIL ABBY) and Lev shouts to stop her so she spares pregnant Dina (GOOD ABBY). Personally, I think it was Lev who saved Dina, Abby was a tool to do it. And Ellie realise that. Ellie's plan She killed all close friends of Abby to find her. This is what she has learnt for these years by sticking with Joel. When she kills Owen and Mel and figures she kille pregnant Mel this is one of the traumatic moment she gets (EVIL ELLIE - murdered innocent child). While experiencing a shock she drops her own map with marked spots. A year(s) past and Ellie forgets all about it, and starts new life. But she is having symptoms of Post-traumatic stress disorder and there is a visitor. Tommy reopens the wound that just had healed saying that Ellie dishonours his Joel's death. That triggers anxiety in Ellie's mind and next morning she leaves Dina along with her baby. Ellie finds Abby handing on the wooden pillar. Set her free let her and Lev to go the boats. Then, Ellie theats Abby that she will kill Lev. When they fight and Ellie is aobut to drown her and in split second (GOOD ELLIE) she releases her grip and tells Abby and Lev to go. After she returned home, sadly she found it empty but that was the price she had to pay. There was only a guitar from Joel. By toughing the guitar she says I MISS YOU, I LOVE YOU, I FORGIVE YOU. MY FINAL CONCLUSION why didn't Ellie kill Abby ? Reasons: 1 As Ellie forgave Joel for telling him the truth and saving her, as she forgives Abby for sparing her life twice 2 She forgives Abby for sparing pregnant Dina 3 she want to compensate pregnant Mel's death 4 She thinks that if she kills Abby she kills Lev (a boy that was to weak to survive on his own) Both protagonist are good individual and have to make tough decisions. The both are SHEEP IN WOLF'S CLOTHING. BOTH want the same thing. First Ellie sees as Abby can spare lives (Tommy x2, Ellie x2 pregnant Dina x1) and then Ellie try to follow up her example by not killing her at the end. They both tragic characters and they both struggle with family's loss. That was my personal perspective on the story I am sure other users may have different view s

Frankly I loved Abby, and Ellie and the story in general. It's abso-f-ing-lutely brutal. And kind'of about personal growth rather than redemption. No happy ending for anyone because at the end of the day it's just people being... people. Revenge, survival. The final fight just... made me.... sad. Both the fights between Abby and Ellie made me sad. Ellie going after Abby again made me disappointed. I liked Joel, I really really did- but he kinda did do a terrible thing and murdered a LOT of people by proxy and firsthand doing a 'Good' thing. Yeah there's no guarantee the cure would have worked (I don't remember if they lied to Ellie about her surviving the surgery or not) but he also took that chance away from everyone. He killed the sons and daughters of possibly thousands of other people. Would I have done the same in his position? If it was my kid? Probably. He knew what he did. Overall, super fun watch, heartbreaking story. Bittersweet end. From this I take away these things: Not all good guys are good. Not all bad guys are bad. Good people make poor choices. Revenge is a circular object until it divides by 0. Edit: Mushrooms are scary.

Thank you for making this video. There parts that I like and don't like but overall I think it's a great game, which give me emotional roller coaster. ND was right about you have to come to this game with an open mind. If you get stuck at the point about Joel's death or the fact you have to play Abby, then you will just miss the point of the entire narrative and all the good parts of the game. I actually learn to like Abby after playing hours in her shoe, and start to value the Big Sister and Little Brother bond between her and Lev (They have been through some crazy s*** just like Joel and Ellie). She was just as broken as Ellie in a complete f***ed up world. She was very capable and caring just like Ellie. They were both consumed by hatred and lost everything. Abby is actually way more mature compare to Ellie. She was the one who first realized how revenge will only bring more pain and emptiness. That's why she let Ellie and Dina live and refused to fight Ellie at the boss fight. In the end, I am glad that Ellie let Abby go and cut the circle of revenge. I am actually happy about the ending unlike majority of the opinion. Those who say Ellie should kill Abby really don't understand how PTSD and recovery work. Killing Abby will actually add more pain and suffering for Ellie. The hardest part of recovery is letting the past go. Until you can do that, you will never heal. That's why despite Ellie was able to have a great family and a dreamed life, she still can't sleep and constantly getting flash back attack. Her journey to find Abby one more time is actually not wasted. She was finally able to see how similar she and Abby was, and understand that killing her will neither bring Joel back nor give her the peace she long for. By letting Abby go is letting the past go. In that Ellie FOUND THE CLOSURE she need. Hence, it's not a bad ending. You can see how peaceful Ellie look at when she put down the guitar. Hopefully Dina will take her back so she can finally be happy. Moral of the story from a doctor point of view, informed consent is very important. If Abby's father have provided the info to Ellie instead of go right into the surgery, she would definitely have bought in and sacrificed herself. Ellie would have also stopped Joel from any attempt to save her. Of course then, we would have a very broken and empty Joel, a bad ending to TLOU1 and no sequel for TLOU series.

Good analysis. I really liked it too. Although I think Abby still died of infection, because she bit the fingers off Ellie's hand that had just been bitten by an infected, and they remind us about her bite multiple times without any seeming reason to narratively, before she kills the big guy and again at the prison cell.
@yuriipm39734 жыл бұрын
Well said. I think you're wrong about Abby's motives - she was in the position of force, so familiar to her, and would not hesitate. She let Ellie and Dina go, due to the bond with Lev. In the end - the situation turned out the opposite, she refused to fight so that she could save herself and protect Lev. I agree that she seems more mature, though - she took up the responsibility for another human being, chose the chance to build something.
@INFEDnoX4 жыл бұрын
@@yuriipm3973 This is very well said as well. I've seen people saying Abby "wins"/is victorious, but I'm no so sure that's true at all. Her cycle of revenge is merely played out before Ellie's; she avenges her father, and consequently loses all her dearest friends and loved ones to that same cycle. It's only Lev's presence that stops her from continuing down that path again - that's the point she "breaks" the cycle, like you said. She resolves to be better, by searching out both the literal and symbolic "cure" for the world (in the Fireflies). I wish Ellie's choice at the farm was different, but it makes sense, upsetting as it may be. Abby builds, Ellie destroys.
@marta21ded4 жыл бұрын
@@INFEDnoX "Abby builds, Ellie destroys". Very well put! But it's also worth mentioning that both characters are in exact opposites directions in their paths. Abby is finding her humanity once again through her connection with Lev, while Ellie is losing hers after losing her father figure.
@qui100004 жыл бұрын
I've sat here for about 15 minutes now trying to figure out why the fuck Naughty Dog would utterly fuck the storyline like this. I've figured it out, the moral behind the story. If you spend your life risking everything for revenge, you will lose everything. He who seeks revenge all his life, will never know peace. TLOU2's storyline is about being able to forgive other people for their wrongdoings, by seeing the bigger picture through the perspective of *everyone's* eyes. You can't forgive someone if you don't understand them, as all you're doing is letting your hatred and anger fuel your destructive desire. The ending wasn't meant to be happy, it was meant to be dissatisfying, it was meant to make you upset, and to teach you a life lesson. You will only know peace if you forgive yourself, as well as others. Its no easy task, it took Ellie traveling across the country and staining her conscious with the blood of her own friends, as well as Abby's friends, for her to come to this conclusion.

The story is there, its a spectacular story if you think about it, its just the structure that ruined it. I feel like the story would’ve been better if it was in chronological, aside from a couple flashbacks. That way we would already know Abby and Joel’s death would’ve had more impact rather than it being more for shock value. Joel’s death the way it is basically portrays Abby as the worst person we can think of and its very difficult to sympathize with her, even with all her flashbacks. Having all her scenes before she kills Joel shown in chronological order would’ve been better as it introduces her, the other characters, and her motivations. This way Joel’s death is not for shock value but rather as a turning point in the story. This way Joel’s death is a plot twist, we know what Abby wants but we don’t expect her to kill him yet she does BUT it makes sense with the story. This also has more impact since we would grow to like Abby. The rest of Seattle jumps between them both as they both descend through darker paths. It makes the game more nuanced as to who is truly in the right and who is in the wrong while also forcing us to question whether we are biased simply because we knew Ellie prior. I think that that is what they were going for but the way they told the story, as well as having SO much time between each story point, caused it to lose its impact.

That's the ultimate parents sacrifice, putting down your life so that they may live. That's why I love this game so much, it's fucking dark

The fact that life isnt black and white, and that it's extreme shades of grey is hard to grasp until your brain fully develops at around age 25-30 There's no good/evil, just humans. And people are complex creatures. Abby isnt the devil, putting yourself in another person's shoes and understanding the environment that created the person is critical and doesnt happen until a person has matured
@asscheeks32124 жыл бұрын
Luis Martinez uh, this isn’t Spec Ops the line, THAT game does Grey morality better as characters stay CONSISTENT and there is a thing called “hope” and “living on” as options. Joel randomly trust people out of thin air and the audience have to MAGICALLY understand that Ellie wanted self gratification instead of revenge, which are two totally opposite things readers would never put two and two together, the writing is pretty awful to Red Dead redemption as well, as both Ellie and Abby killed thousands of people but neither got their punishment for their violence unlike the main characters in red dead, again, inconsistent bad writing

I really love how Abby acts like she’s completely innocent in the first fight with Ellie when she would be dead if Joel and tommy didn’t save her life and her friends would still be alive if she didn’t kill Joel

@@T3AMKILL Exactly Abby suffers from lack of self awareness and self righteousness. Also the game starts with Joel saving her and ends with Ellie saving her. Irony.

This is honestly the most touching, heart-wrenching video game I’ve ever played. I understand that people wanted Ellie to kill Abby, but they should also understand that Naughty Dog spared her for a reason! TLOU2 was all about growing up, and realizing that violence isn’t always the right answer. Ellie had to realize that by sparing Abby, and only by those means could she finally let go of the gut-wrenching grief she felt for Joel. She knew he wouldn’t have wanted her to keep the cycle of violence going just for his sake, so she makes the choice to let Abby go. And, in that sense, she lets Joel go too. It changes her for the better, in the end. I am SO EXCITED to see if ND will release a third game, and what it will be about. And if/when they do, I hope you’ll make a game movie from that one as well!
@RenaldyCalixte3 жыл бұрын
I kinda disagree with you. 1 The game has great emotional moments but the story is weak. We spend time on characters that add nothing to the story like Manny. Abby learns almost nothing from her experiences. Which is bad because the player spends more time playing as Abby than Ellie. 2 Ellie isn't learning how to grow up. She already grew up before Joel died. She was 19 when he died and had her own apartment. After the Seattle campaign Ellie was raising her step son and acting responsibly. 3 What Ellie learned is to not feel guilty for not forgiving Joel. And for failing to save him. Joel loved Ellie no matter what. Ellie didn't need to blame herself. She realized Dina was the only person I Earth who loved her this way. 4 Ellie stops the revenge because ultimately she has unconditional love. That love is more important than any revenge.

@Minstrel🎼 those people don’t truly care about Joel tbh. They just want to kill Abby because they are pissed. Not realizing that killing Abby in that moment would have made Joel’s death meaningless.

That was damn good. Sucks so many people had a problem with it, and even as far as throwing death threats? Comeon, telling multiple sides of the story the way it did? This was great, imo. The complete differences between Ellie and Abby, like how Abby puts people to sleep but Ellie sleeps them eternally when they do silent takedowns. the character evolution with Abby becoming a killer and Ellie eventually downgrading from it at the end. There are so many levels to this sheeit and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Thanks for posting. Gonna check out the different ending. Didn't realize this had multiple ones

Joel dying was kinda like Loki dying. Joel was in this game for an hour and dies already, while Loki in Infinity War was in the movie for like 10 mins. They really like to waste good characters who have lots of potential in the later future.
