The old couple at the beginning is such a delight. I don't understand why so few people get Joel's initial reaction to Tommy at the bar. The man literally will risk anything for the people he cares about. I cannot fathom how angry I would be if I found out my brother chose not to let me know he was okay after fighting my way across the country. After the relief passes at seeing he's okay, it would take a while to reconcile being treated with complete disregard.

It's such Older Brother Energy. Like, "I walked around the parking lot for an hour looking for you, and you were just eating a burger in the food court? You can't just take off and not let me know where you are. I'm glad you're safe, but don't EVER do that again!" But, multiply that by months, and walking across the country to find him.

I mean, while his reason for leaving Boston weren't the same in the game, their reunion there was not exactly a happy one too. Also, Tommy is happy to see Joel I think genuinely, but then Joel starts feeling very harsh and sour towards anything happy in Tommy's life. Tommy also made it clear about contacting the outside while in that community, which makes sense in the world they're in. I think it's normal for Tommy to feel resentment too towards Joel for everything they did before they seperated, not to mention just Joel's attitude. It's not that Tommy doesn't understand of course, about Sarah and everything, but like he said is his life just supposed to "stand still" because Joel's has for the past 20 years? Both react unfairly to one another though in different ways. Both could be more understanding of each others situation IMO

@@CrazeeAdam I believe Joel is upset about one thing above all else that's being shut out and being left to wonder what happened to his brother. They even glance at each other when she says "keep off the radio", and Tommy looks guilty. Joel gets the danger. It's just a simple fact he would have broken the rules for Tommy. That's just not how you treat family. And Tommy knows it, thus the guilty look. Same for his choice of words about "Thanks for still giving a 💩 about me." Because it seems Tommy had just decided he and Joel were done speaking forever, and was surprised Joel would still risk everything to help him if he thought he was in danger. Let's not even consider the fact he lost Tess in the journey. Joel literally doesn't care if he lives or dies. He only keeps going for the people in his life. Finding out one didn't care enough to let him know he was okay has to have him spinning.

I feel so bad for Joel here, he never felt so alone before. Tommy basically left him, and he have lost people. If you watch Therapist react, she brokedown what was going on with Joel in this episode and it really broke my heart. Joel's only purpose was to find his only family left, and in the process losing someone he cared about, only to find Tommy living a good life without even letting him know. Tommy moved on. And Joel, who has been keeping all the pain and trauma to himself felt left out and alone, so he shut Tommy out too, that's why he was keeping things from Tommy.

Are Tommy and Maria both insane or what!? Having a kid when you have no access to professional healthcare, midwifes, and doctors who can perform a C section if necessary. How stupid can you be. And having a child is just another mouth to feed. They sure are selfish, mindless, and primal instinct driven, they might as well be infected...

Is this a US thing? I've seen all US reactors laugh at that (for them) obvious joke, but outside the US, a lot of people (including myself) didn't pick up on the fact that this was a joke. I don't really have any negative feeling towards contractors here in Belgium, but not sure if that's the case for other people as well 😅

@@tharran7627 I'm not American either, but it was still funny that Joel tried to make Ellie think that "everybody loved contractors". I never thought of it as being an American thing but the stereotype is that a lot of people have negative impressions of contractors - they go from job to job, they don't technically work for the company they're doing work for so there's no company loyalty, etc.

The scene where Joel breaks down to Tommy hits like a ton of bricks. Ellie has gone from cargo to him being afraid he’ll be the reason she gets killed. Pedro CRUSHED that scene. Also the scene where he and ELLIE have it out? You can SEE the instant transformation in his face the minute she says “Sarah.” This episode is his Emmy submission!

I feel like the scene where Joel opens up to Tommy is a career defining moment for Pedro Pascal. Like if anyone ever had any doubts, that's the scene you point to. The fact that it was improvised and you'd think it was scripted with how well he performed it. I hope to see both Pedro and Bella in a lot of things this decade with how brilliant they've shown to be in their field Also, the cover of Depeche Mode at the end was an extremely nice touch for that moment. I want so badly to see a video game/show featuring the time of Joel & Tommy after Sarah's Murder and ending at when they did the 20 time jump. 13:10 That is Tara from True Blood. 13:15 Episode 4 I think, after they got the truck from Bill & Frank's town. They are driving and Ellie asks Joel: "Am I Family?" of which Joel answered: "No you are Cargo." Easy to miss but in this moment Joel is including Ellie as "family". Makes me warm inside when months ago he stated very clearly: "... no your cargo."

I'm a huge fan of the game and everyone involved in Naughty Dog. This is truly the best film in the last 25 years. I would love to see you play the game! The game and series are like alternate universes that are nearly the same. They elaborate well on the game's plot without changing the essence. You can see her steal the rabbit and Joel saying to put it back right before his first anxiety attack, which he has because he grows closer to Ellie, which causes his PTSD from Sarah to flare up, fearing that he'll lose her too. He has his nightmares for the past 20 years though, reliving that moment over and over again. He's acting sort of weird in Jackson because the whole reason he went on this trip was because he wanted to find Tommy, which he thought was dead or in serious trouble. But after finding him it turns out he is sort of living the good life instead. There were a few hints for Ellie's space thing. In episode 2 she said the bomb craters made it look like a fucked up moon, and in episode 3 she said the pickup was like a spaceship. Next episode "Left Behind" will have some too, as it is all about Ellie. The majority of the filming was done in Canada and the cover at the end is from Craig Mazin's daughter, Jessica. :) This episode is actually pretty rough if you know Part 2.

It's interesting to me that a lot of people don't understand why Joel is being sort of cold towards Tommy. Dude took off and couldn't even let him know he was okay. Kinda messed up. I found the reunion heart warming as well - but then I was a little pissed at Tommy. Safe place to live? Married? Baby on the way? All while Joel is going through hell trying to find him and loses Tess in the process. I'm sure he also holds his own opinions on bringing more children into the current state of the world they live in. Props to Joel for not giving Tommy more grief over it all - not sure I'd have had the same strength.

Tommy is such an asshole. He found paradise, immediately knocked up a lady, cut off contact with his brother that he knew was living in a bad environment, and then told everyone a sad story about how his evil brother manipulated him into doing bad things. That's why Maria hates Joel so much. He could have, at the very least, told Joel he is safe and would be off the radio for a while. Joel lost everything TWICE. First with Sarah, which wasn't Tommy's fault, but the second was. Tess died because they went to 'save Tommy.' Meanwhile Tommy is living as the consort to the leader and living in luxury.

This episode have two production errors, on the bridge scene (film crew on the bottom left corner of the screen) and on the horses scene (a hand below the horse's head).

You are very much in Tommy's corner? I definitely am not. Tommy was the first person to murder someone without warning - the soldier on outbreak night - and he exaggerates his ability to do many things. Tommy found the group that he and Joel joined that did the "bad things" discussed with Ellie in the truck. Tommy also is why Joel lost Tess his partner of many years. (16 years I think based on the Bill and Frank episode) because they took the Ellie escort job to get the truck to get to Tommy because Tommy couldn't be bothered telling Joel he was going off grid. No I am not a Tommy fan especially because he told Maria things that causes her to immediately try to separate Joel from Ellie by telling her how bad Joel is.

Yeah, Tommy looks ashamed during that whole scene in the bar - and rightly so. Joel lost Tess in his desperation to find him (the only reason they took Ellie was to get a car battery to find Tommy) and Tommy could have easily made one final radio call to let him know he's going to be safe, settled somewhere. He didn't even need to mention Jackson so it wouldn't have broken their rules. Tommy definitely failed his responsibilities so Joel's initial anger is completely justified.

Joels daughter was murdered and he thought he lost his brother. Only to find out he was alive and living well. Tommy didn't even bother to help or even notify his brother. Tommy knew what a crap dangerous life Joel was living. I'd say Tommy is a pretty crappy brother. Joel has every right to be mad and alittle hurt.

Totally. I just wanted them to forgive. There is so much going on when reacting hard to put everything into words in the moment. I get each characters viewpoint and try to empathize with them. Who know what you/I would do in this type of world. So many hard choices to make.

You should definitely play the game. It's way more emotional. You really connect with the characters a lot more than in the show because there's a lot of time spent with them two just walking around and chatting about things. The scene where Joel changes his mind about taking Ellie is way better in the game. I wish they did it the same way in the show.
