I feel so bad for Joel. The only reason he and Tess wanted to leave the QZ was because Tommy stopped answering the radio and it turns out he was living the life while Joel was worried sick

Thank you for another great reaction. I keep thinking back to that stab wound. I initially started screaming at the screen "No! Don't pull that out!", but beyond the shock he was in, I think Joel knew you're not supposed to do that as well. If you can stay still until help arrives, you shouldn't remove anything that has been stabbed into you. But there is no ambulance coming for him, and he would have to get up on that horse. That movement alone with a wooden shank stuck to him would definitely cause more internal damage. Definitely a bad wound though and that was a lot of bleeding out too. Can't wait for your reaction to the next one. Also been loving your Legend of Vox Machina ones too!!

There is a reason why Henry is shown again at the beginning. That was for the fans, because that's exactly how the cut had been made in the game. One shot, then black, then dam. The reason why Joel doesn't teach Ellie much or let her do it things is that she wouldn't be cargo anymore. Such things create a mutual connection that Joel did not want until then. He doesn't want to give her the option to take care of him. Just like Sarah did back then. I mean she did the housekeeping, made sure he wore his shirt the right way around ect. That the dog detects an infection is nothing new and was shown to us by Merci in episode 1. Dogs also detect cancer and other diseases. The dog here has noticed that something is wrong with Ellie, but he has also noticed that there is no danger from her. Something Fedra's detectors can't detect. They only know black and white, just like Fedra is. It costs overcoming to leave something stuck in your body that you do not want to have and does not belong there. The head must remain clear and you must be aware of what is happening to you. The scene is kept very realistic, also as far that the injury is not immediately noticed. Anyone who has ever severed a finger on a circular saw knows what I'm talking about. Maria to Ellie: "Be careful who you put your faith in. The only people who can betray us are the one we trust." Probably the most important sentence of this episode if not of the whole series. Joel to Ellie: "Dream of sheep ranches on the moon." This sentence says so much. Joel already connects Ellie's dreams with his. Ellie drank from Joel's liquor and it was "STILL gross". That was a callback to the DLC. Next episode Ashley Johnson (Game Ellie) will properly get an appearance in the Ellie Flashback (Game DLC). This episode was a feast for everyone who played Part 2. we met Dina, properly Jessie, Shimmer, Bison Bar, sheep, kids playing snowball, Astronauts, Jackson see from the inside. Simply fantastic. The campfire scene was not in the game, but was originally supposed to be included. Druckman said he can now finally show more through the series than was possible in the game. To be honest, it would have been better if this scene had been involved with this dialogue. Then certain comments from fans regarding moral questions would quickly fall silent.

Great reaction, love how you appreciate and feel the emotional scenes. Also you wondered about Joel's wound at the end, and from what I know it's better to take the object out. Keeping it in is only for situations where you're able to stay there calmly and wait for proper medical help but in this case they had to GTFO and moving around would have caused more damage, not to mention excruciating pain. But yeah, the whole situation sucks and I'm so scared for Joel, and poor Ellie! 😢

In the game instead of Tommy saying, "Adios big brother," it's Joel saying, "Adios little brother." Interesting little Easter egg. One thing I didn't like is they cut out the line, "You are treading on some mighty thin ice here" when Ellie started talking about Sarah. But I guess if you hadn't seen the game this scene still works just as well. Regardless, that scene very close to the game. There's a bit more dialogue, but for the most part it's identical. As someone who loves the game, every time they do this I get so stoked, knowing a whole new audience is going to get to see it.

I was listening to the podcast and Troy and Neil said that that line was improvised by Troy so it didn’t feel authentic to Pedro’s Joel, which I can respect. I was bummed too though!

That line made me question Joel a bit. Was he threatening her? What was he going to do, he was already leaving her to go with Tommy.

@@WileChile51 I took it in the same vein as any parent chastising their child. Was there any realistic punishment that he was going to give her? No. But he was telling her that she was crossing a line that in his eyes, at that moment, was a point of no return. That’s why he’s so cruel to her. “You have no idea what loss is. […] You’re right, you’re not my daughter. And I sure as hell ain’t your dad.” If she’s gonna cross that line, then so is he. He’s petty as hell but he would never physically hurt her.

People who don’t have severe anxiety and panic attacks: What’s wrong? Is it a heart attack? I don’t get it. Those who know: Alright, show, stop before I have a panic attack. This is triggering as hell. Most viewers: No! Don’t pull it out! In most cases, no, you shouldn’t remove the object until help arrives, but three men were coming to kill him and Ellie, and mounting and riding a horse with a jagged stake in that position would have shredded his insides, killing him faster. He made a split-second decision, knowing it was a risk.

I'm going to be playing after the season so I kind of want to go in without knowing much of the differences, so I try to avoid them, but I did see one or two earlier in the season and it is pretty crazy. I have a feeling when I play it will be like playing through the show. Totally backwards experience from most people lol

This ending is probably going to be used as a segue into the "Left Behind" DLC. Due to Joel's injury, Ellie needed to scavage stuff to keep him alive. While doing that we will get Ellie's story from just before the start of the story. And it will fill in some of the pieces on the loose strings she has refused to elaborate on.

Oh I didn't know that, I'll be playing after the season is over. Since it's all new for me, I really liked this episode to see a different side of surviving (and thriving) in the apocalypse.
