Let’s put it like this: Remember Micah from RDR2? That horribly unlikable character who killed Arthur Morgan? Would’ve you wanted to play as the unlikable asshole who killed Arthur Morgan for the rest of the game? Nope! If Rockstar did that, everyone would’ve shat all over RDR2, and that’s exactly what Naughty Dog did with this new character, built her up as an unlikable asshole, then had her kill a beloved protagonist, and then forced us to play as her for reasons that will probably never be explained. Looks like I’m gonna have to give this game a pass just like that luck lustre Resident Evil Remake we got earlier this year, oh well, Cyberpunk still looks promising at least.

Micah is still an extremely unlikeable character, because he was teasing Arthur the whole time about Arthur being sick in chapter 6 and in chapter 4 was Micah the one that told the pinkertons about the bank robbery and lead to the capture of John and the death of Hosea and Lenny, all this made Micah a good antagonist... and Abby isn't even close to being a 'decent' antagonist. The Last of Us 2 is just an awful written game

Second game: *Forces you to play as the unlikeable character who killed one of the two beloevd characters with whom you formed a bond to fight the second one. Gaming nailed. Note: I never played TLOU. I've never been interested in playing it, i've watched playthrough just to see what was the story. I didn't fell in love with Joel and Ellie even if they were (i think good characters) and overall, i don't think the game is that exceptional. The Fireflies in the first game were presented as ruthless and sociopathic, suddenly here they're humanized and presented as tragic heroes. Same thing for Abby's father who here is presented as a decent and tragic person while in the first game he was only a doctor who tried to kill Joel when he came to save Ellie, meaning Joel killed him in self defense, something this game seems to have forgotten and presents as slaughtering just because it wanted to make Joel look like a monster for the sake of the plot. Not to mention that Abby's father makes it clear that he would react the same as Joel if it was his daughter who had to die in the flashback, making him a complete hypocrite who tries to give moral lessons, or the fact that all of Abby's scenes show her as if she was a really good person while Ellie is only shown to kill hundreds of people, including a pregnant woman, and the game wants us to feel like if she was the villain. Moral of the story, God of War 3 is a far better revenge story than this.

Ellie relenting and sparing Abby in the end really redeemed her character, because after this confrontation Abby sort of reflects on her cycle of violence and moves on from it. Ellie might have taken longer to get there, but she ultimately still did under her own power, and didn't need anybody to step in and make her self reflect in that moment as to what she had become like Lev did to Abby. Instead her pain just became unbearable and she gave up right before crossing that final line into eternal darkness. She lets Abby live, just like Abby did twice to her. They ultimately both leave empty handed and broken, ultimately never fully understanding each other's motivation's.

The idea of exploring the cycle of violence IS a worthwhile one especially within the context of The Last of Us. But I walked away from this entry just feeling awful. Also, playing from a characters perspective (Abby) who has opposing views to the characters we know from the first game could really help flesh out that idea. It would also provide a much more interesting conflict if, say, Abby and her group along with Ellie and Joel were all (or mostly all) alive to see a climax through near the end of the game. However, it was a wasted opportunity since Abby just wastes Joel in act one... Don't just do that then expect the rest of her story will smooth out killing off a main protagonist, have people empathize and LIKE her and her group first. Furthermore, this game doesn't really progress the larger plot of what's going on in the post-cataclysmic world towards any solution. Perhaps they could have had a larger goal to achieve, maybe Ellie/Joel want to achieve this goal and so do Abby and her gang but they also want to do in Ellie and Joel in the process. Seeing everything (nature) move on, around humanity, might have been the point? On par with post-modern deconstructionism, this game starts with Ellie and Joel kind of making it work for once and ends with Joel dead and Ellie having lost EVERYTHING from seeking revenge. I didn't read the leaks when they came out, up until a few days ago my honest prediction for the events of this game was that Ellie finds out years after the hospital incident that Joel indeed deceived her, neglecting to save humanity. She then opts to seek him out to exact revenge. This would resolve in like act 2 and forward a larger plot for act 3. Too bad.

Let's say Ellie saves Abby, then both of them proceed to know each other while both cooperate to survive, making the player and Ellie bond with Abby, then, have Joel go after Ellie because he was worried about her, Ellie and Abby get involved in a shootout with some of the cult members, Joel hears it and goes to check, after seeing Ellie, Joel and Tommy go to help, and after the end of the conflict, Ellie convinces Joel to help Abby, Joel refuses to take Abby to their camp and when asked about his name, gives her a fake name (just as he would be doing with everyone after the events of tlou1), so, a random photo drops out of Joel's pockets or idk which has his name written somewhere in it (could be a picture with Sarah), then Abby manages to find out who he is, purposefully "stumbling" upon Ellie in the mid to late part of the story, managing to capture Joel while he was alone, Ellie then sets out to find Joel after his disappearance, we then begin to play as Abby while she is dragging Joel to torture him, the player gets to see the entirety of Joel's torture, playing as Joel in a last effort to escape, Ellie then arrives, gets spotted, but Joel manages to create a distraction, Ellie hides, so then Abby arrives, everyone armed to the teeth, Ellie stays hidden bc she knows she'll die if she tries to fight them, Abby then says: "I know someone tried to save you, old bastard. Too bad they came back for a corpse" Ellie then watches Abby kill Joel, beating his head with the golf club repeatedly until Joel's head turns into minced meat, having Joel scream and letting the player hear his ragged breaths as he chokes in his own blood and spasms erratically trying to stop the inevitable, Abby and her gang proceed to go away, Ellie approaches Joel, hearing his last desperate gasps for air as the camera shows Ellie crying over the deformed, barely recognisable corpse that once was Joel, Camera then shows Joel's mouth forming the words "Ellie, run", as the player watches his very last moments I'm too lazy to resume this, sorry, ran out of creativity

I didn't want to see Ellie get revenge on Joel either but what he did **was** morally questionable. Just with the way the marketing was going (and I wasn't paying much attention to the ad campaign after it was established this was a revenge story) I assumed it might go something like she figures it all out years later then goes after him for either revenge, answers or both. Obviously not doing him in, choosing forgiveness and finding humanity amongst a cruel world then progressing towards a larger goal in the narrative that would've presented itself by that point. I don't know I just thought something like that would happen. Not the strangeness that occurred in the actual game. Like they had so much talent and huge budget and a wide swath of undiscovered territory to continue the story. It's effective at showing how the cycle of violence and revenge ultimately lead to despair, ruin and isolation but it's not thaat good of a revenge story, could've been wrapped up in 12-16 hrs. I'm not sure this sort of direction was even a good choice for the second part in what could be a trilogy or quadrilogy since it leaves you uninterested and disassociated with the remaining characters for a future narrative. Regarding Abby, someone said she got hit with post-nut clarity somewhere in the development process lol and I agree. I came to sympathize with her, I don't have an issue with that shes buff. She's been plotting revenge (likely leading to working out) and is a lieutenant in some kind of militarized force so she's going to be fit. I don't think she was un-likeable as there were many moments she displayed her own humanity, she just had her own motives (revenge) and goals which were justified but poorly executed in a time-line perspective. Everyone saying this could've been avoided if Joel didn't reveal his actual name is right. It seemed like something he just plainly wouldn't do.

This is so raw. This scene shows how Abby grew as a person, she learnt about empathy through Lev and Yara, forgiving the one person who killed all her friends. Unlike Ellie who is doesn't learn her lesson until is too late at the end of the game.

This is one of the badass parts of the game in my opinion. I did it a bunch of times and it's the only boss battle I wanted to play over and over again. Idk why cuz I like and understand both characters and seeing they hurt each other in a cutscene makes me feel uncomfortable but when I'm in control it's satisfying. This is weird.

I am a bit confused here. In this fight we see Ellie biting Abby 4:23. In TLOU isn't hundred percent confirmed, but when ellie was kidnapped by david and his men, she bites him, saying then he is infected too. I don't know if she used that just as a tactic to escape (which is very likely) or there is a real posibility of that fact. In this case, after biting Abby she should've turned into an infected one, but we know that doesn't happen (we then have the final boss fight). So that keeps me with two options here: 1) Ellie can't infect other people by biting them. 2) Abby is immune too (which would be a very shocking revelation and a big plot twist in the game). I am speechless just by thinking about it. Although it's shocking, it would be (in my opinion) an amazing detail for the plot. This could lead to many theories as well. So, what do you think guys? I would like to know your opinion.

Hi! I'm a bit late, but as you didn't get a response for that I'd like to provide more insight. So when she bit David, it was actually the first time she "shared her saliva" (infected method of infecting others). She assumed that she's practically infected and so her saliva would cause others to become infected as well, so she tells David that. It's unprecedented, so they both had no idea if that's actually true or not. In TLOU2, if you read in her journal, she writes about Cat suddenly kissing her. She freaked out, assuming it would infect her, but days went by and nothing happened. So while she is technically infected, she cannot infect anyone else using her fluids. That means that the first option in your comment is the correct one: she cannot infect others. Cheers!

@@Shushishtok Oh, thank you very much for sharing your thoughts. That's true, I didn't remember the Cat's kiss and Ellie freaking out about it. One thing that keeps me thinking about it, is when they have to fight against infected, especially when we play as Joel in a hand-to-hand fight with them, they "share" saliva when these infected fiercely scream at you (i don't know, maybe i'm exaggerating too much). And Joel doesn't get infected. So i guess the saliva needs to enter the blood to infect someone (and that would be why a kiss or someone yelling at you isn't a risk to get infected). Anyway, i find this theory weak as well, because our characters are usually wounded and bleeding. Cheers!

Abby's two dimensional character choices here define the entire plot. No reasons to act or choose, just plot convenience. Just because Lev, a kid who knows fuck-all and who realistically wouldn't interviene in this situation, says her name, she just gives up on avenging all her friends despite Ellie having come back once before for the same thing Abby just did? This whole story was written in a 3 hour space trip and was never revised. Instead, they used these 7 years to polish the technical aspects of the game. That is the only masterpiece, the graphics, the plot is the opposite.

The whole point of playing as Abby is seeing that Abby and Ellie really are not all that different Abby was out for revenge for Joel killing her father, instead of killing Ellie and all her friends she just killed Joel and spared Ellie. Ellie literally murdered everyone Abby loved in cold blood with the exception of Yara and Lev. At the end Ellie thought to herself what would Joel do? Joel travelled across the country with Ellie to hand her over the fire flies and he couldn’t do it. He decided he would spare her. Ellie saw Lev in the boat, thought about Joel and spared Abby and gave her a chance like Joel did to her. Ellie was finally able to make peace.

I didn't want to like her, but seeing the story from her perspective it is really hard to see Joel and Ellie as anything but heartless selfish monsters - in fact if there had been no last of us 1 and all we ever saw was Abbys side of the story then people would think of Ellie as one of the worst villians in video gaming history!
