I do not mind the square pushing I get Ellies anger and the revenge quest Norra was mocking the way Joel died and got similar treatment. I'm fine with that. What I'm not fine with is characters (Ellie or Abby) not able to learn from what they experience just so the game can be longer and drag player through the misery. So Ellie is devastated in this moment she did same thing as Abby, it crushed her. So why not to let go? Why at this point not to have the reflection shit revenge is bad it already took a toll on me and it will be even worse if I decide do continue. But no we have to go through this misery porn (till the ending which is miserable) because this was the "artistic vision"?

Ellie actually tortures Nora after that hit and that's how she finds out why they killed Joel and finds out Abby is at the aquarium. I used to be so confused as to why Ellie is so rattled after returning from the hospital because she's killed so many people up to that point and was completely unfazed by it. Of all the criticisms I've seen directed at this game, the whole "Ellie kills throughout the game with no issues, but after Nora, she is suddenly traumatised!?" claim is probably one of the sillier ones. Is it really so hard to see the difference between killing out of necessity to survive and willingly torturing a defenceless person for information? Ellie has done plenty of the former, and so obviously it's more-or-less second nature to her, but this was her FIRST time outright torturing a human being. You don't think that's going to do some emotional damage? C'mon guys.

I stabbed a woman begging for her life in the neck and watched the blood go all over my hands moments after throwing a molitov cocktail on a dog that was mourning the loss of it's owner...Ellie then started laughing and flirting with Dina 2 minutes later on horseback together....that's poor storytelling
@Hornet55614 жыл бұрын
@@VideoGameSophistry And what would have happened if you didn't kill that dog and woman I wonder? Also, I don't suppose you ever refrained from killing a beggar, just out of curiosity to see what would happen? I did multiple times, and every single time I let them be, they would get up, find cover, and continue the onslaught. These people are threatening Ellie, and much alike the first game, she does what she needs to do to stay alive. It's part of her norm, so I completely buy the violence happening in one minute and trivial banter ensuing soon after, because she is so used to it. Torturing someone for information, as I said, isn't something she's done before. You're articulating the difference I highlighted more than you think.
@TheTrailburner4 жыл бұрын
The game actually gives you the option to kill the last person standing in a group should they be badly injured. It's during these moments the game slows down and the camera locks onto the individual in question. You can kill them with Ellie's switchblade or walk away, but even if you walk away they'll die from their wounds anyways. It's a case of the game having its cake and trying to eat it too. Like Story and Gameplay departments were not talking to each other. Best comparison to this scene I can think of is "Metroid: Other M" where Samus has a mental breakdown when she see's Ridley despite the fact that she's defeated him many times before.
@Hornet55614 жыл бұрын
@@TheTrailburner That's interesting, that never happened to me during my play-through. Whenever an enemy started begging, and I proceeded to walk away, they got up and started shooting at me again lol. Maybe on my next play-through I'll experience that situation. I still don't think it's really a problem within the greater context of the story though. These begging people were trying to kill Ellie, so for Ellie to kill them in return just shows she's ensuring her survival and preventing any negative repercussions that may arise if they were to be left alive. The torture aspect with Nora I view differently because it's not done out of defence, it's done purely out of lust for information. There is no necessity to kill, but she does it anyway because she desperately wants Abby. It's strictly personal, and more emotionally traumatising for that reason.

I think scenes like this is when Ellie realized she didn’t want to lose herself. She didn’t really want revenge to drag her down like it did to Abby. Look at what Abby’s revenge eventually cost her. All her friends, her group and physical hell, which now she has Lev to care for. She may learn the love Joel had in saving Ellie, maybe even have to sacrifice something selfishly because of her love for him. That’s even worse. Learning and becoming what your enemy was. That’s why she let Abby go. It’s not always sunshine and rays and satisfying revenge. She clearly didn’t enjoy the revenge and it bothered her. I don’t think this game isn’t as bad as people say. It’s just too emotionally complicated for people nowadays who think emotions and events are one way or the other and have to happen a certain way for closure.

Abbey tortured and killed only one person - Joel because he killed her father and denied a chance of saving at least a part of humanity from the infection. He was extremely selfish. Also, she spared Ellie two times.. Ellie's behaviour is a lot worse. She doesn't only eliminate all of Abbey's friends. Her obsession is so strong that closer to the ending she even leaves Dina with a baby! She chose reveng instead of family! Again, I do not understand how people are incapable of accepting the fact that Abbey is a lot more merciful and kind than Ellie in this part being a natural bitch.

Abby is not kind as Ellie because 1 she slept with Owen when he and Mel was in a relationship. 2 when Abby was about to kill Dina even though she knew Dina was pregnant so she fine with also killing a baby and that isn’t merciful. She was going to kill Dina and Ellie if it wasn’t for Lev. People like Joel and Ellie because they were realistic, and relatable characters. Their father-daughter like relationship made these characters more interesting. People who are claiming that even Joel killed people aren't looking at the bigger picture. He did not kill for revenge. He killed to save Ellie. He killed to save the only thing that gave meaning to his life, he even says it in the previous game. On top of that, Joel saves Abby. He is then attacked by her and her entire crew. Abby is a coward. Joel killed every Firefly in that Hospital alone. Abby shoots the man who saves her while her entire crew is around her and then tortures him. Joel did not torture her father. He killed him because he was in his way. The fact that this sadistic coward tortures and kills the man who saved her shows that she is driven by hate and she was already an evil person. She kills and tortures because she can. She was going to kill Dina who she knew was pregnant. Joel, at the end of the day, was a good man. Abby is a cowardly sadist. Take all that LGBTQ agenda out and the picture gets crystal clear.

Sucicdal Pepe friendly reminder that Joel, the person who you say is a “terrible human being” not only risked his life to save Ellie, but also was going to willingly try to hold a group of soldiers with Tess, even when he knew she was infected, survived with Henry and Sam, and treat Henry as if he was his friend (two black people btw). I don’t where you got that idea, but Joel is not a bad person, in a world where no one trust each other, he not only showed that he cared for those that he found, but that he had the guts to try and save them, even if it meant risking his life
@johngreenwood43704 жыл бұрын
You're so naive if you think Joel is a good person, and if think there is an "LGBTQ agenda" that clouds peoples' judgments. Joel, like everyone else, acts selfishly. Joel killed and ruined a dozen innocent families to save Ellie for his OWN selfish needs, which Ellie was against, and risked potentially developing a vaccine as well. He has done terrible things in the past we don't know about, and he wasn't against running over and distrusting that bandit in the first game. Abby is a horrible person, too, but you're acting like she did nothing good, like betraying her team to save innocent children with whom she bonded, *just like Joel did with Ellie.* And you're forgetting that Ellie would readily torture people to fulfill her revenge, despite already killing over a hundred people in the WLF community. And Abby didn't know Dina was pregnant, she spared Dina after realizing she was pregnant. At the end of the day, Joel was a terrible man, as was Abby, and Ellie too, just slightly less so. Stop clutching onto your idea that Joel and Ellie are good people, because they're not. They're emotionally driven, selfish, illogical people living in a post-apocalyptic world, and Abby is no different. Joel and Abby are very similar, but you people keep trying to justify everything about Joel by cherry picking what you look at.

Does Lev even know that she once tortured a man? Even Lev might hate her one day, and she knows it. I feel like Ellie killing Abby would've just set Abby free and hurt Lev worse than it could Abby. Lev would've died from no one helping him, or if he somehow survived without Abby, the cycle would've continued and he would've gone after Ellie. Although, I will admit. If Ellie didn't free Abby off the beach, and Abby was stuck helplessly watching Lev die of starvation while she was stuck there alone after his death...... probably even worse.

@@Gan3eL Here's breaking news: videogames are not real life and they're nowhere near realistic enough to trick people into thinking they are, and the pursuit of graphics is the most vapid understanding of reality possible. I think the aftermath of Nora's death was interesting to me. It is because it's obvious that Ellie regretted doing what she did. All she wanted was Abby and I think killing Nora made her realize that she is becoming someone that she does not want to be, a cold blooded killer.
@justsomeguy7472 жыл бұрын
I recently played through this part. It seems that as you guys said, that the mashing sequence is meant to symbolise that Ellie is losing herself. She is completely losing herself for anger, hatred and frustration, some of which is in part of her broken relationship with Joel. It was utterly manifested in her quest for revenge. Ellie went on this rampage because it was the one thing that primarily kept her going. She killed Nora, a person involved in Joel’s death, and realises that killing her didn’t make her feel better and that she is becoming more of who she isn’t. Yes, Ellie brutally killed David, but she was justified because he was psychically trying to kill her, and Nora was defenceless and would have turned. She killed Nora and it didn’t give her the release she sought.

Remember: Nora was just tortured by Isaac, one of the most feared torturers and evil dudes in the whole game, and she didn't say to him where abby was.
