I had your second part feeling for the first part, ellie just walks into so much human misery with meeting good people you're obligated to kill. Suspension of disbelief doesn't exist in the last of us 2, you clearly see what naughty dog wants you to feel. After a while, you stop seeing the characters, the journey, you just understand that it's naughty dog pushing you through emotional misery porn and asking you emphasize with the ridiculous amount of misery they put in their game. I can't emphasize with every person killed in gta because there's so many of them, i can't emphasize with every emotional bait scene in the last of us.

I think that if they changed the pacing and structure of the game a little bit the parts with Abby would not feel like such a fucking slog to get through. For me personally it would have worked better if we as a player switched between Ellie and Abby a bit more often so you kind of experience their journey at the same time. Dedicating the entire second half to Abby was just way to much and I could not wait to get back to playing as Ellie, as a result of this I rushed through everything and it made me feel less connected to Abby wich is a shame because her story is very good as an opposite side to the Ellie story. So yeah missed potential imo :(

I completely agree. The game is too long as result of trying to fit in two separate campaigns and the pacing suffers because of it. If they mixed the campaigns together and trimmed some of the length off, the game could have really benefited.

Perfect review. You summed it up better than most critics did and highlighted all the good parts of the game. I feel they really ruined the game in the second half when you play as Abby. It had so much potential to be as great as it's predecessor. No wonder 70% of Naughty Dogs employees quit during development of it. They saw it coming before everyone else.

I feel the story was trash because of how many contrived shock value moments it has, and the gameplay was pretty average. On the positive side, the atmosphere was fantastic, the graphics are one of the best in the market and the accessibility is a really cool feature. This game deserves a 5/10 in my eyes

Man I have such mixed emotions on this game, I recommend looking up the alternative story they were going to go, to give an undetailed summary, you would’ve played as Joel a while, Abby would join you to make a three man posse, then Abby would figure out who Joel was then kill him. Personally that would’ve been better to me. I love Abby as a character idgaf how she looks her character is good no matter how she looked, but I just wish they did it differently. Imagine getting to know her side by side to Ellie and Joel then boom, she kills Joel, even if it was like 1/4 of the way in, just would’ve felt better ig

I didn't HATE the gameplay for Abby's section, but I was absolutely disappointed when the Rattler's section started. It felt completely unnecessary to tie up the themes of the game. Basically all permutations of the gameplay were thoroughly explored before that point, and there wasn't really anything left to differentiate it. When that section started I was immediately like "oh goddamn it" because I knew exactly what it was going to be. The game was like "You thought people you've seen so far are BRUTAL, well, check THIS out." and it just felt really over-the-top.

Huh . . . Ya know I really enjoyed the whole game start to finish and generally I've been annoyed with negative reviews I've seen because they whine about things they wish were different in the story because they just don't "like" the story naughty dog set out to tell. I think you make a pretty legit argument about the second half(even if the stuff that bothers you didn't bother me at all). I had the same visceral reaction in the final fight as well, oof. Also failed the quicktime event 😅 I subscribed as a fellow Bloodborne enthusiast. I was worried going into this video you'd make the same tired criticisms that have pissed me off on other channels, but no, you managed to deliver the praise the game deserves while exposing what could be argued are incongruities between the world building and gameplay situations. Fair enough.

Yeah, I have to agree Abby's section is absurdly long and drags in large portions of it. Her story significance is great but a lot of the enemies in her first section are unending mobs. I'm a little surprised you said Bloodborne instead of Dead Space but maybe Dead Space is too old. I have to agree with all of your praises of the game.

I disagree. I had more fun with Abby. Beating the shit out of everything and then burning them to a crisp with a flamethrower was awesome. Yeah it’s not realistic but it’s a mushroom zombie game. Good game in my opinion, not perfect or garbage, just good.

I don’t think whatsoever that the game is a 3/10 4/10 no. My score is in the 7/10 8/10 range. It builds on almost everything gameplay wise, while making Ellie and character we love to become almost unrecognizable. I don’t really care for the story it’s just the fact that Tommy and Joel along with Ellie seemed so out of character that I didn’t feel in the last of us world.

I hated abby, couldn’t care less about her story. Wanted her to to die to the very end, got really disappointed that she survived, as ellie i would’ve burn a hospital full of people just for the chance of killing abby. Thing is she killed joel and i just couldn’t let that go.

I loved this game. And nobody's opinion will change my own. When i first started playing Abbys part I absolutely fucking hated it for about 5 hours just asking myself when this is gonna end, but I absolutely fell in love with abbys character and i think i ended up liking her more than ellie (i think) The game left a bitter taste in my mouth but its definitely one of my favorite stories in a game that ive ever played and i cant wait to see what they do with the inevitable part 3

Thanks for the kind words! I totally agree with you. I didn't mention it in the video but I also groaned when the rattlers came. I thought the game ending when they contacted the people on the radio would've been not as tiring.
