14:15, they are watching The Goodbye Girl starring Richard Dreyfuss and Marsha Mason. A single actor moves in as a subrentor with a single mom and her daughter. Over time they become a couple despite their quirks. However, this love story has a twist. The female lead’s young daughter looks at the boyfriend as a father figure. So when he has to say goodbye for a time, both the mom and daughter are heartbroken. Their quasi father daughter relationship is shown to be just as important as the relationship between the leads. Sort of like the relationship between Ellie and Joel.

one small, almost unnoticeable, detail from this episode that i really appreciated, was that they had a kid with what appeared to be down syndrome with the community watching the movie. having them just, a part of the community... was really wonderful. i have a sister with a syndrome similar to downs, just more rare. this sort of dystopian future scares me, in terms of my sister's survival. and it was just lovely to see someone alive, with a syndrome such as downs, with the others alive, in this fictitious world.

The scene in the bedroom is my second favorite scene of the games. Ashley Johnson killed it in the original. And Bella Ramsey lived up to it. She looks scared and just... broken. Another person she got attached to was leaving her, and you could hear it in her voice. Pedro killed it in the scene with the boots. This is quickly becoming my favorite series of all time. And when he is showing her how to shoot, there is a change in him. He has accepted that he is hers and she is his. He has accepted that he can't let her go, can't let her down. You can see the old Joel hiding in there. And by the way, you still make me laugh when you say "shut up" after you get scared lol

This show uses a lot of subtle sound cues from the game; like the low windy sound whenever they're sneaking about to be noticed is the same sound in the game that tells you if you're being looked for. And here when the horses pop up there's a chime sound that's the same sound in the game for "there's something important you should be looking at"

So the Lab scene played out quite differently, and IMO better in the game, In the game most things are the same, it deviates when Joel and Ellie hear the Raiders, by the time they hear them, they've already swarmed the entire building and know Joel and Ellie are in the building, Que a gun fight as you race to the exit, however halfway through, a Raider surprises Joel, and they go tumbling off the side of the building where the Raider died, and Joel landed on a Metal bar, with it skewing through his side. Ellie then helps Joel off the Bar, they get on the horse and leaves, the scene then plays out basically the same. RIP Joel.

It took me forever to finally realize that the woman playing Maria was Tara on True Blood (not sure if you've seen that series). This is a hard episode for Joel because he finds his brother who also reminds him of his daughter Sarah especially when Tommy says Maria was pregnant. Now, in the game Maria wasn't pregnant and the old couple in the beginning never existed but I'm glad they added them because I love them. The emotional part with Joel and Ellie about her not being his daughter was always tough to play in the game and these actors did a fantastic job in this scene.
@BigMike246 Жыл бұрын
You caught the bad new song from episode one. I was the only person in our viewing party who caught that. To me, the best writing has no waste. Every line of dialogue or thing that happens is either a setup or a payoff. The writing in this show is super tight. Do you remember Ellie telling Sam the only thing she is afraid of in the last episode? Ending up alone. Joel dumping her was the thing she feared the most. Damn! Great writing.
@5thRace Жыл бұрын
Some spoiler free Series v game comparisions. Joel having anxiety attacks is not in the game but it is a deep cut for the game as in the opening scene of the game playing as Sarah you can look in the upstairs bathroom Joel has some anti-anxiety meds in there, so the character has a history of anxiety problems before the outbreak they just didn't explore it in the game. Other than that this is a beat for beat match of the games overall plot and story, not shot for shot but some scenes are shot for shot. Some settings are changed most of this part of the game takes place at the Dam that they see in the show. They never really get to Jackson in the game they see it but never go there, and in the game Ellie has a running away incident that leads to the "you ain't my Daugher" scene. (I think they did this scene very well but I do think it's better in the game, maybe because it was the first place I saw it, I'm not sure) The young girl watching them eat may be a cameo of a character that appears in the last of us part 2 called Dina. Oh one last thing, the scene with Joel teaching Ellie to shoot a rifle is not from the game (although he does give her some pointers on it in Pittborugh) it actually from the concept art for the game, you can find it by searching Joel and Ellie concept art.

They're what communists _should_ be; an actual commune of people who give a shit about each other. Communes are notoriously difficult to maintain long-term though; people bicker and sabotage each other like crazy. But if you do like Jackson here; start small, give people room to mind their own business, make sure supplies are in good order before expanding, it _can_ work. But more realistically, though, the vast majority of communist systems end up like Killa City.

It's something that needs a good culture behind it. That town is basically what I'd _want_ to gun for, and I'm saying this as someone who grew up in China and thinks soviet-communism is a pyramid scheme. But it's something you need to scale up _very slowly,_ if at all. In the small scale this makes sense, basically a village mindset. But you can't apply it to a metropolis of people who don't know each other following rules set by people who don't live there. A mom-and-pop shop and a mega-corporation don't work on the same rules.
@giodagrate5369 Жыл бұрын
@@samwallaceart288 I don’t really disagree. As that town grows, it’s gonna be a problem. Communism runs contradictory to human nature.
@samwallaceart288 Жыл бұрын
@@giodagrate5369 I feel like anything large-scale is a challenge. One thing that makes capitalism more scalable is it can be parceled down to individual buyers and sellers and the concept of personal property makes mass cities full of strangers more tenable. But even then there's caveats and requirements. Communism is unrealistic collectivism that needs a central myth and opinion-policing to keep it unified. Basically an atheist version Catholic feudalism. _Which did work_ to a certain extent, but also required inquisition and "critique of the Pope" being a capital offense. The idea of people having a happy village together was never the problem, the problem is how to realistically apply that village-talk policing beyond any individual's social circle. 40 acquaintances, humans can deal with. 1,000,000, you start needing a cult mentality to hold it together. _That's_ the problem. Not the concept of "sharing".

The Bill and Frank story is a direct parallel to Joel and Ellie. Sure the flashback was pretty long but the letter to Joel mentioning Tess is what pushes him into doing the journey for real, and the letter needed that context. If it was a straight couple that whole interlude would be hailed as poignant foreshadowing.

@@mavjagmaverick1527 Then being gay doesn't affect the point the show's making. To an SJW them being gay is a bonus, sure, but there's a lot more going on in the story than _just that._ If it was a straight couple, people would call it a tangent but be pretty cool with it and appreciate how it adds to the story, rather than just focusing on which gender is involved. Sure I'm gay. Gay for having a well-told story that can have #diverse characters _without lecturing me_ about how diverse they are and how I should feel sorry for them. These gays _actually have a life_ and have character and don't need to stop what they're doing every 5 minutes to talk about how much they hate straight people. They're just people being people in a world, and I'm gonna acknowledge that and reward the show for not being preachy about it.

@@EOMReacts at least they pulled back from the infecting the main characters plot - the worst part of the show are all the woke changes made to subplots and secondary characters in order to appease an audience that doesn't really exist outside of the cesspool that is Hollywood. Everything from his brother (who is now a pussy), to his brothers wife (who is a commie that hates Joel), to Sam (he wasnt deaf), to frank (who hated Bill and died trying to escape him by attempting to steal his truck - Bill was to protective and paranoid for him), to the chubby rebel leader (chief of the Karen's) - none of that is in the source material.
