THE LAST OF US | So impressed with the adaptation | 1x2 Reaction

We ended up getting this one done MUCH earlier! Here's our reaction to Episode 2 of HBO's The Last of Us.
We usually watch rom-coms, but had to jump on the hype-train for this one. And it does not disappoint! So take a break from the softer films we usually watch and join us as we react to the entire season of The Last of Us.

At first, I thought the Tess's scene was weird, but after seeing it again it made more sense to me, she just let it do it's thing because if she moves or fights back, it will go into kill mode and she has to be in control as long as possible, to make that lighter work and her mouth is the easiest way to soft tissue, so that's how I see it

My thought was that the infection had already started taking control of her mind. Thus, the uncontrolled arm movement. That's why she ran into the building. She knew she didn't have much time left

@@Mystichawk65 Same, she was already losing control of her arm when holding and showing off Ellie's bite mark, trying to hide the shakes. It's probably why the stalker walked over to her calmly, and why the others didn't rush to her too. She may have seemed to be one of them to the others, already infected.

You may have noticed that the fungus broke out in a flour and grain factory in Indonesia. Flour and grain are exported to various countries pure or in products. This is how the fungus most likely spread. In the pilot, there was constant talk about cookies. Sarah, Joel and Tommy never ate any. But the old lady in the wheelchair has eaten and then mutated.

The first are runners, the fungus just grow and make them different, depend in how long they are infected or where the growth start

I love the way they executed the clickers. Feels just like they're from the game, but even more terrifying. As for how the clickers work, the clicking is used as ecolocation since they can't see. And, killing infected doesn't require headshots. The host just needs to die, but the fungus growing around their bodies ends up acting like armor.

Yeah, that makes a lot of sense. I just remember clickers being so difficult to kill in the game. So I'm glad that they were able to portray that a bit here.

Fun fact: to produce the games the art directors went to cities and took photographs of the cities to produce 3D digital versions of those areas - these game people gave their photographs to the CGI team for the show, hence why it looks so sweet on a budget.

stages of infection 1) Runners - the recently infected, can still see and don't have significant fungal growth yet 2) Stalkers - more fungal growth, the name is a bit of a spoiler so I won't say anymore, but the one that kissed Tess was a stalker 3) Clickers - the blind ones at the museum that get around with echolocation through their vocalizations 4) Bloaters/shamblers - TBD

That start as runners- clicker-stalker-bloater-xxxx-xxxx. And they aren’t connected they are in the show in the game. The game is based on spores as another primary means of infection and the infected function more as individual units than a hive mind.

I was wondering where the spores were! I remember that being such a big part of the game. Maybe the showrunners made the call to show more of their faces. That hive mind is terrifying, though. haha

In fact, however, wiring also corresponds to reality. There is a place in the world that is several square kilometers so connected underground.

@@TomTomson81 yeah I remember reading a lot about fungus after watching an episode of the x-files where Mulder and scully gets trapped inside a giant fungus under ground that extended for miles. It was based on a carnivorous fungus rather than a parasitic one but I always found it fascinating. There is a novel called “ Girl With All the Gifts” that was made into a movie and it’s very similar to LOU based in the cordyceps infection leading to the fall of civilization. It’s pretty good.

For the fungi the "kiss" it's not weird because they don't know we believe that joining our mouths and interchanging saliva and sticking our tongues in others holes it's an important thing. Yeah, I can imagine Mr and Ms Fungus in her home saying "Oh Plant! The humans are so gross! I don't want to watch this show anymore".
