Two things: First, welcome editor Dan to the channel! I've mentioned getting a second editor so I can maintain daily uploads with my recently increased standard of quality. I'm looking forward to see what heights we can reach with both Dan and Ben working full time. However, hiring a second editor isn't cheap, so expect me to do some fundraising soon. Second, I will be livestreaming tomorrow afternoon at www.twitch.tv/aliensrock (about 15 or 16 hours after this video goes live)! I will be doing a follow-up stream to the Variety Mega Shitshow, finishing VVVVVV then playing more of this game afterward. I'll make a community post when the stream goes live too. See you there!

I like that ADOFAI is easier to break down "mathematically" compared to other rhythm games, at least in my opinion. I've never picked up an instrument in my life, so that aspect of the game made it easier for me to get into it, as I could never really feel the songs in the same way when trying to do Guitar Hero or OSU.
@black_m1n825
@black_m1n825 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah. Agreed. With other rhythm games, I basically memorize how long does it take to drop down. Which means I can play with music off and still do fine. With ADOFAI I had to come up with my own notation basically. And music helps in making it. For example 1 1-2-3 . 1 1 . 1 1-2-3 . 1 1 . 1 1-2-3 . 1 1 (6-X Ascending pattern)
@za0za_0
@za0za_0 2 жыл бұрын
Well at least for osu!, the point of the approaching notes is not to accurately tell you when you're supposed to press them and then memorize that behavior, but to hint at a rhythm in the song, and this can also be done through visual cues like spacing and patterns in a map. The difficulty here is being able to read those cues after already getting a minimal idea of the song, following the song as you're playing and having the muscle memory to not focus on aiming at the notes consciously. Either way you shouldn't expect to be good at or enjoy a rhythm game that relies heavily on these gameplay principles if you're playing it with the sound off.

Tyler probably doesn't have good enough rhythm to do the two challenge levels in a reasonable amount of time, let's be real. That, and it isn't until the 4th level of Neo Cosmos where it goes out of it's way to tell you that you're gonna need more than just the spacebar for harder charts.

One of my favorite rhythm games, glad to see you're having fun with it! Two things I wanted to point out: 1. You can use any key to play adofai besides escape, which is very important since Worlds 8-12 are way faster than the rest of the main game. 2. The dev team also made Rhythm Doctor, which is also a one button rhythm game you should check out. All of the songs are bangers too! p.s. World 8 is peak jazz, good luck!

"Crypt of the NecroDancer" and/or "Cadence of Hyrule: Crypt of the NecroDancer featuring The Legend of Zelda" could be considered puzzles in a sense due to their mostly deterministic enemy movement patterns, and Cadence of Hyrule even has a dedicated puzzle mode which is an expanded version of the Temple of Brainstorms dungeon. Just a tip, once I started getting to the harder songs I switched to using the V and N keys rather than the spacebar; you eventually won't have enough time using a single button on the keyboard to do some of the rhythms. V and N are just a comfortable spot for my fingers to rest, but find what works best for you! I adore this game and I am very happy to see you playing it. Not like Tyler will ever see this but for anything pertaining to music if you practice it for a little bit and then stop when you’re frustrated or tired then when you come back you’ll be able to do it perfectly. So if there’s a level you got stuck on you’d just be able to one shot it when you came back to it later. Did that on the piano tons of times where I will be 100% certain I didn’t learn anything at all and then sit down hours later and I’ll nail it first try. So I imagine that’s the cool thing about this game is that if you just do it a few times and then quit you’ll come back and one shot the level. Lol

adofai is more about learning the songs you play - you can learn to sightread stuff, but it takes a lot of skill; also a lot of pop songs aren't made into levels because they don't have interesting rhythms, however most artists popular in rhythm games do have their songs made into custom adofai levels i think i'm pretty qualified to talk about this (all sections of all levels pure perfected in the dlc), however i'm definitely not a top player

I suppose that's a downside with playing visually rather than rhythmically. If you're literally watching the next tile or two in order to time it rather than sticking with a rhythm, then you can't look ahead at the symbol to match that speed

Seeing someone popular play this game makes my heart happy. Also this game with checkpoints makes me upset cause I had to beat it before they added checkpoints

Based adofai player Can’t wait until you beat some of the custom charts, many of them are super bananas! Also, the Neo-Cosmos DLC is really fun, I highly recommend it, assuming you haven’t already gotten it.

Never expected you to play this game, very pleasant surprise tho! Hope you continue to play it for a bit (other main levels + official bonus maybe?). There is a lot, and you seem to enjoy it so far, hope we see more ^^

You’re so lucky to have the checkpoint in 6-X it wasn’t there when I first beat it and it took me a good 5 hours

Some criticism for dan the new editor. Calm down on the zoom ins to the camera. You want to zoom in only to emphasize on unique or outstanding moments. Not every failure. Other than that its good for the other parts.

This game is so cool. Actually many ways to play. You can use the beat, use reaction to the spheres rotation, or you can learn the visual language of rhythm the game teaches you. Or all three

checkpoint concept: you get to respawn at a checkpoint exactly twice. every checkpoint has its own counter. when you hit a checkpoint from behind, the count resets to 2. This way you either have to improve quickly or improve consistently, and you can't just luck spam your way forward
