Thank you. People seem to think Chibsons will be fine with a little work but they're garbage from the start, you'd be better off getting any Epiphone that at least has the correct scale length and fret spacing and some sort of quality control.

Well it really depends on who you buy it from, some sellers are great and don't use Gibson's logo, other's just buy the lowest quality ones they can and resell them. So let's not just make blanket statements. There are sellers using nitro finish, ABR bridges, actual Gibson pickups, real Kluson tuners, and doing quality relic work out of china on replicas, hell Eastman makes some of the best ES 335 and LP style guitars money can buy out of Beijing.

Dude, lighten up ! So its a cheap guitar (that you hated from start to finish). How much did it cost? How many hours did you have to work on it. Would have been interesting to see the details of what happened the Canadian Chibson Custom shop at around 11:30 . How much work did the frets take? Would be nice to see the technique, instead of listening to all the cussin! What was the final result? After all the work, what couldn't be fixed?

My Chibson is amazing. I mean we all know Chibsons are NOT about quality electronics or hardware. I got mine mainly because I had a lot of hardware and electronics laying around not being used, so I thought well, I'll spend 225.00 on a guitar to see what I can do w/ it. Mine is quilted maple (rootbeer color) I got it w/ ebony fretboard w/ the "supreme" inlays. As soon as I got it, I put in a set of Seymours, a roller bridge, locking tuners and a Tusq nut and it's amazing. Out of all of my guitars, it's still one the more fun to play cause it sounds amazing, it feels, looks and plays amazing.. And it's 6 years old now and is still just as awesome today as it was the day I got it all done. And I've played it nearly every day for 5 years straight. Only reason I don't play it everyday now, is because this past year I got a Jem jr that I upgraded and I have a Genesis Rg 570 that has been getting a lot of my attention lately, but I still love going back to the Chibson off and on.

Dave, maybe not this Chibson, but It is typical with Chinese guitars to come with crap components, and need a full setup. So you pay anywhere from $150-$350 for an LP style Chinese, Korean, Vietnamese, etc guitar, spend $150-$300 on upgrading all the components, wiring, a full setup, and you have a nice guitar, cheaper then an Epiphone, and with how Gibson's quality has been as of lately, a nice guitar that sounds as good and almost plays as good as a Gibson for a fraction of the cost. I know, as I have a Bad Cat Green Unicorn. The Craftsmanship is awesome. I didn't have to do any fret work, just a slight truss adjustment, and I Replaced the Nut, Bridge, Pickups, and the wiring and Electronics, and it came with Grover Tuners. I bought it second hand in Mint Condition for $100 with an Epiphone Hard case and a stand, I spent another $160-$180 on all the other Parts. I had my Buddy who recently blew over $2,500 on a Gibson LP come by with the New guitar and we did an A/B comparison. we both admit the fit and finish is better on the Gibson, but even he said, my Bad Cat sounds and plays better. I love these videos of guys complaining about these Chinese made guitars. I have 4 of these guitars and with a little shielded wire and quality pots and maybe a pickup change out these guitars play as well as any Gibson guitar. They are made of Mahogany with solid Maple tops, Ebony fret boards, and are finished beautifully. I would put mine up against any Gibson USA made guitars as their equal and would smoke any Epiphone Les Paul in playability or tone. Of the 4 guitars I own 1 arrived with a damaged fret that I had to change out. It took me about 3 hours to get the new one dressed up and in the neck, a little more filing and and she plays like a million dollars. My son has a Gibson custom and I have a contemporary Fender strat that I enjoy very much but don't discount these Chinese guitars because of what guy's like this are saying. They probably do see nothing but jacked-up chibson's that need fixed , after all that is why they are brought to them, but not all of these guitars need a fret job right out of the box. Find a reputable supplier and you'll be quite surprised!

I just bought a new $1k Gibson LesPaul Tribute. So a very entry level Nashville-made LP. Came set up perfectly. PLEK’d at the factory and set up nicely. Not sure if Sweetwater tweaked/improved things before they shipped it. No it does not stay in tune, but that is pretty standard for a LP. I am a strat guy but have complaints on quality of the 10 + LPs I have owned over the years.

I have a friend who picked up a Chibson Jimmy Page copy. He was able to set the intonation, the necks were pretty good the 12 string neck needed some adjustment. He wound up taking it to a shop and they were able to tweak it and level the frets. He went to guitar swap meets and got the sets of Gibson pickups, changed them and all the wiring and pots. Put on Kluson tuners and new bridges. His total investment was about $400.00 in parts and about 12 hours of time.

I'm assuming this only applies to guitars branded as Gibsons despite not being one? I have an Agile Al-3010 that's basically an LP clone, but it's definitely the best guitar I've owned, not that I've owned great guitars since I just started a year and a half ago. Plays really well; good build quality from what I can tell. It has really nice materials in most places, from a solid mahogany body, an ebony fretboard with nice hand filed jumbo frets and abalone markings, pretty good pots and pickups, and a tusq nut. I've always kind of thought of it as a cheaper knockoff Gibson, though it definitely seems to be an equivalent or even a superior quality guitar to the mid range Epiphones.

The worst part is that there are some good Chinese builders out there that do not get involved in counterfeit guitars. 10S guitars is one example. They can custom build a quality single cut LP style guitar at a fair price. Less than a third the cost of a Les Paul Standard. All in one guitars in CA also have some very good spec built Chinese guitars which include ls a thorough set up before shipping to the customer.

With the state of Gibson’s quality control lately it’s honestly getting harder to tell the difference. Bought a brand new Les Paul Junior DC Tribute bass and... The truss rod covers badly off centre. The pickup doesn’t have enough foam under it to stop it flapping around underneath the cover or sinking into the bass (with audible noise through the amp as the cover and pick up rub on each other). There’s a gap/crack in the lacquer under the headstock veneer. Half the frets aren’t dressed on the treble side of the neck. The headstock shapes nowhere near semetrical. The e string tuners not installed straight, it’s totally out of line with the others. The frets aren’t crowned or polished whatsoever. Gibson’s response its ‘handmade’, you need to understand these imperfections in the context of it being ‘handmade’... No Gibson, just no.

I bought an ES-345 Chibson a while back just for grins. Didn't know the term or about them at the time. They never show the headstocks (on eBay), so I didn't think it would actually have a Gibson shape, pearloid Gibson logo and stamped "Made in USA" complete with bogus, nonsensical serial number. A heinous job of attempted parallelogram inlays, a cheapo gold anodized aluminum Bigsby that was thin with sharp edges, complete with a random black coil spring that made the arm stick up like 30 degrees. A rotary switch with a silk screened sticker for the numbers ring that peeled right off and a big hole chiseled out with a screwdriver or something in the center block to squeeze it into the body, as they're too big to go in through F holes. Not stereo, of course. Just something to make it go from mud to muddier. I ordered new pots (which requires drilling bigger holes if CTS or US spec) then I stopped. I realized that to make these "guitars" work, you have to put double into them than you pay. Which was like $285 INCLUDING shipping direct from China. Which means they're cranking these out for less than like $80 to make a dime on them. And there's not a damn thing Gibson can do about it, as the lawyers would cost more than they can afford. I haven't heard of them taking on China, anyway. Looks nice from 10 feet away, though!

I started playing guitar BECAUSE of Tom Scholz, Ace Frehley, and their Gibsons. But, I'm just disgusted with the company these days. I've played many Gibsons over the decades (since 1978), and they're no better than a well made copy with a decent setup and decent pickups.

I got my used beat to hell Gibson for $500. Switched over to some brighter pickups and it sounds amazing. Don't see why anyone would even buy an Epiphone. There's tons of old used Gibsons for cheap. Some are great as is.

@@fireemblemistrash75 If you buy a higher end Epiphone like a tribute or a pro plus from a good store that looks them over(sweetwater is the best I know of online) , you are unlikely to get a piece of shit. If you do, you can return it. I bough my epi pro plustop about 5 years ago. The amber was on clearance for $450 which is the color I wanted anyway. It has the probucker pickups and they are good enough that I think i would be a waste to change them. It's an excellent guitar, frets are level, no flaws anywhere on craftsmanship, came set up perfectly. Only things I've changed are the 3-way switch that was occasionally shorting out( a switchcraft was like $10) and the nut which I usually change to tusq xl for better tuning stability anyways. A total of about $20 of upgrades. Gibson owns Epiphone so they are still getting some of your money anyway, just not as much. Agile is another company that reportedly makes really good Les Paul copies in the $400-500 price range. People who have them say they are better than Epiphone. I think they are Korean made.

Well it's about time!! The whole idea about playing guitar is to climb the ladder and eventually earn the guitar. Fender or Gibson. Learn your licks, save your money, and one day but the dream guitar. Any great guitarist will tell you the same thing. No way to cheat the process!
