As I sit here and think about it I find it very remarkable that a young man built his first sawmill in his backyard and used it a LOT for 4 1/2 years. You are now going to tear it down and reassemble it at your new place, and not a single word about modifying it or replacing it with a better version. This is surely a testament to your natural born engineering talent. I am 70 years old and I think this is amazing. I am in total agreement with you. I see no reason whatever to change anything on this saw other than the hand crank feed. Art

I don't understand the thought process that goes into the best way to cut up logs for the greatest yield/best looking slabs. I do appreciate watching you do it. It's truly fascinating. I've spent many hours mesmerized by your videos. It's somehow both entertaining and calming.

Totally agree. Stout hydraulics and some massive counterweight. That log grapple is pretty amazing too.

My old house was built in 1889 and the living room floor was red oak toung & groove I sanded all the old stuff off and covered it with clear verithane sealer when the sun was setting and shined on it the colors was so beautiful i hated let anyone wear shoes on it so i kept slip on shoe covers for when anyone came to visit !

Very nice Matt. It's been nice going along for the ride with you here but... We can't wait to see the saw set up at the new place with room to expand!!! Hopefully you already have a slab poured for the mill when it arrives. It might be nice to have a covered mill area that is open on the sides for access.

Good video mate. Its not the end of a ride, just a pause until the nest ride starts at the new place! Looking forward to seeing how you transport the mill to its new location. Too right about not staining timber. I cant understand why folks want to spoil the natural look so often!

Matt, Lots of great memories of that sawmill build, that spot of ground it’s on and all the beautiful wood you pulled out of logs that would otherwise have been tossed away! Looking forward to the tear down and rebuild (hopefully with some hydraulics to get logs on and turn them!

I love this saw mill, I wish i could bring you a big log and some money for your effort and see it in action. I got to see it in person once but never in operation. Alas i can't neither transport large logs or really find them. I think quarter sawn Red Oak is beautiful. I leave flats awn at the store though. 32" that makes the 24" long on my driveway seem small,gonna tackle it with my 661.

Red Oak is under rated. Beautiful Wood! The old houses were mainly White Oak because Red Oak had a tendency to rot viruses White Oak.

Can't believe it has been that long since you built the saw. Can't wait to see the move! It is almost its own trailer frame. Are you going to just slap an axle on the bottom and a hitch on the front? Voila. Mobile saw mill!

Like Chris G. below, it amazes me that you haven't tipped over... yet. Have you thought about adding a counter-weight to the end you stand on? Might help with some of the bigger stuff, give the skid-steer more oomph to oomph with. Or are you going to get a larger skid-steer to supplement the mini-skidder?

Wow the time goes fast 4 1/2 years since you start with the sawmill, and before you make the big furniture(Do not remember the name) The time goes so fast. You moved last year, and no it is the last day from the old house. The family grows up, and it is strange to think that it is so many year since i started to follow your KZbin channel. I wish you and your family a nice time. I hope you have been free from Covid 19, and i hope you enjoy your new home. I hope there will be more videos from there later. I really appreciate the insight, the education, and the humor you put into each of your videos. Been listening to you on WoodTalk for years, and I'm really glad you guys un-quit. A couple quick questions: what in the world do you do with all the sawdust and off cuts (like the first bit of bark you cut off the top)? And I'm assuming you sell these slabs? The only reason I've been avoiding red oak is because it's all I used when I started, mostly buying the really bad s4s boards from home depot. Might have to give it another shot at some point.

When building the sawmill, you mentioned adding hydraulics to maneuver logs. You haven't mentioned them since you got the skip loader.

Clever and hard working. Can you imagine how much work he has been doing to move into a new house, move his shop, keep making videos throughout all of that, and still making workbench kits? I bet he will be happy to sell the house and cross that big project off his list.

Very interesting information in this video like how a tree growing on an angle creates stress and exotic grain patterns. How did you learn all this stuff? If you do not answer, I will assume you were raised by tree elves. I am mesmerized by these videos and i can't stop watching. Anyway, thank you for sharing!

He’s using carbide, probably doesn’t change blades at all.
