Printer ink is the biggest scam on the planet. The cartridges have a chip that communicates with the printer, and is programmed to tell the printer it's out of ink when it really isn't. Almost every time I take an "empty" cartridge out, and shake it; I can still hear ink sloshing around in there. I've also had printers who's refills cost more than I paid for the printer. I've actually thrown perfectly good printers away, instead of refilling them. This HP really might be worth looking into.

Depending on your type of printer you can 'reset' the cartridge counter. Furthermore you can add more toner into the cartridge using a simple hand drill and a syringe which costs less than $2. Although eventually the cartridge nozzle will get blocked and you would have to buy a new one. But hey I used the same cartridge for almost 4 years and it's still working fine

I'd like to know which make and model you were using back in 1999, as I recall many of the early laser printers being eye-wateringly expensive - with the price of toner cartridges circling $200. I do think this _is_ (comparatively) earth-shattering. I have one of these as my artist's workhorse laser-printers. I use it for masks in acid etching and other arty processes that specifically require a laser printer and this printer is an absolute Godsend! It works out at 1⁄6p for an A4 sheet, and I'm now worried that HP is phasing it out as they can hardly make that much money from it compared to their other products, for the reasons already cited in these comments! It's currently showing as unavailable on the HP website - better stock up on my toner syringes!

@@adilakhtar007 It is a struggle when I use it. :) When I want to print using WIFI, it doesn't work. I need to restart or reinstol it. Also it doesn't want to scan. It says that the printer is not connected to the computer. I will try one more thing and if that doesn't work I will return it back.

My problem hasn't been printing too much but the toner always evaporates really really fast. They have preservatives for everything in the world but it seems like HP doesn't know that when it comes to their ink and it just evaporates into thin air 2 months after you buy it.

I have this printer and honestly it’s a great deal. You don’t have to constantly change the ink and it prints perfectly. The only thing I don’t like is that you can’t print in colour. Sometimes I like to print with colour but other than that the printer is perfect

You're right to do so! When you print black, your printer is actually using a _combination_ of 25% cyan, 17% magenta, 17% yellow, and 41% black to makes your printer print 'black ink'. Black on its own would look awful because it's not a colour, it's a shade.

M28W is in my opinion the best one to have. Very cheap printer, doesn't care when the toner is low, so no need to have proprietary refill equipment. Of course the cartridges do cost, but relatively easy to refill and you can buy toner powder from ebay like 1 kg for 9€. So judt buy one cartridge and refill the one that came with the printer and the one you bought in turns. You may also reset the chips if you really care about the orange light on the printer, but really: you can see when the toner starts to run out. Then just refill and no damage has been done. Have been happy with the printer for over 2 years now and have used abosolutely no money for it. Hp lasers just really work.

Because black isn't a colour - it's a shade. Black is made from a combination of your primaries: blue, yellow and red - and _then_ a pre-mixed black is added! That’s because the right _combination_ of CMYK actually produces a much darker-looking and more solid black than just 100% black ink ever would - it would look wishy-washy. The _combination_ of 25% cyan, 17% magenta, 17% yellow, and 41% black is what makes your printer print 'black ink'.

It depends on much you print how long the printer cartridge will last. When I purchased my Hp laser printer the ink cartridge that came with it lasted 6 months at half ink. I just purchased a new ink cartridge which will last me at least 12 months .

For color printing, the hp officejet pro 9010 series is a great option too. It does 2-sided automatic scanning and copying.

Hate to be a party pooper, but I have this printer - in fact I have two - and they've both been great for the several months I've owned them until now. One stopped and won't power on. Tried all of the trouble shooting suggested and nothing. I'm assuming it needs a new power supply but of course Office Max where I bought it will have nothing to do with it and I anticipate the same with HP. If anyone from HP is reading this perhaps you have something enlightening to suggest??

From a legal pov, your contract rests firmly with whoever you purchased it from - Office Max in this instance. You have consumer rights, which they know full well. It is against the law for them to 'refuse to have anything to do with it', which they will also know. Stand your ground - best of luck!

There is no duplex option on this printer - you have to manually reinsert pages to print the second side, known as manual duplex printing.

Misleading review that is ignoring the current situation around HP Neverstop 1200 line. All the reviewers seem to adopt HP's tech specs and publishing their reviews without veryfing the most important product details. Unfortunately, the consumers had to call out all the flaws of this product. I will not comment on its connection problems, out of paper error fault, bad print quality and go to the core - the print economy. Even with 5% page coverage (according to HP statement) you will NEVER be able to achieve 2500 pages per refill (or 5000 at full tank). In fact, you will struggle to get to 1200. HP tries to convince the consumers that their new firmware solves this but it only does so at the expense of print quality which was below average already. The reviewers should prevent people from buying bad products.

I hardly ever need to print color, so you can save a lot of money by just buying a B&W one and going to a print shop if you need color. I highly recommend laser-ink Brother printers because they last forever and you can buy generic-brand refills from Amazon that are cheap and also last forever. I've had mine for years and have printed tons and I've only had to refill maybe once or twice and each generic refill is like $10 from Amazon lol.

I've been using this printer for just over a year, just past the warranty, and it had died. I never even used a whole ream of paper or have ever had to fill the ink. I used it to print my tax forms, about 30 pages, and the next day it won't turn on at all. I've tried multiple outlets, and I've tried using a different power cord from another printer. No luck, it's a paper weight now and HP support won't help.

If you haven't even used a ream of paper in over a year, then I sense your printer may have suffered through underuse (not joking). Also warranty-schmarranty - I take those things with a pinch of salt - products are meant to last *six years!* I'm not sure where you live, but here in the UK, you're well within your consumer rights to request a replacement within that time. Stuff isn't meant to keel over after a year.

HP for years now has had one of the worst, if not the worst, customer support system on Earth. It takes multiple phone calls to various departments handling various printer types, to get anything done. The Care Pack system is also a disaster -- we had a 478 printer and the guy that came out under the Care Pack spent at least 20 hours trying to figure out what the problem was, taking the entire printer apart, before HP finally realized it was a losing proposition and that the printer should be replaced. How HP has survived this long with this kind of consumer response system is a puzzle.

4 years back I got a dell laser for £50 and the toner is still at 80% (I don't use it much). I also got another toner cart for it at £30. Inkjets are for suckers. If I want photos printed I got to the supermarket. When the toner is gone I will just buy another cheap laser printer.

I've bought 2 MFP FDW281 color laser printers in the last 2 years and BOTH of them printed 30-50 pages in color and then died on me. they both had plenty of toner left in them but NEITHER print even a hint of the image on them. Also have a high capacity black and white 4015 tn printer that just stopped printing for no aparent reason and it's only printed a couple hundred pages Not buying another HP they've ruined my long standing loyalty to their products now*

Yes, it has two heated rollers that melt the toner powder. No, it does not smear. I'm an artist, and use it specifically for wet media, where inkjet won't work. I wouldn't swipe the page _immediately_ tbh, but i get my paper quite wet with paint, water, and wax - and it doesn't budge.

A good printer except for the control panel which is NOT user-friendly at all. HP could have done better with that. It has been 18 months now using it at the office and still having problem with the control panel. On the otherhand, I have a Canon Canon MAXIFY MB2140 at home which has a control panel extremely simple & user-friendly yet presenting a vast amount of options compared to this preemptive control panel in HP 1200w.

A small point but I thought they'd be a USB cable included to help with the set up but there was none. I've been using it now for a few weeks and it seems like a good product and superior to my previous printers which were all troublesome HP machines.

It's a HORRIBLE piece of junk printer. Please stay away from it. The app is a joke and doesn't work 95% of the time and when it works, the printer can't be located by any of my computers. I restored the printer's wifi network and deleted the apps from all of my computers and reinstalled the app several times with no luck. The app is horrible. it is basically a web browser that takes forever to load. Also, you can't print without connecting your printer to a wifi network and even then you cannot scan a document before you create an HP account so that HP gets a copy of everything you scan. Fishy and impractical. The screen displays virtually no information and no dedicated buttons for scanning. Everything has to be through the horrible app and the scanned document stays in your HP account. Why? Save your money and buy a real printer.
