I remember hearing about the Emily Duncan scandal as the 3rd book was on its way to me lol. I read it, as I actually enjoyed the books, but unhauled after I had finished. It feels good to declutter, even books. I will periodically go through my books...to make room for more books I enjoy lol.
@hmmurrayАй бұрын
🌹I've been working on unhauling books myself, that I'll finish next year and I'm okay with that. I had heard about Emily Duncan but never knew why she was disliked until this video. I'm glad I never picked up any of her books despite them sounding intriguing. I love how ruthless you are when it comes to decluttering.

I read Meddling Kids like 3 years ago and loved it but I think it's one of those books where if I read it now, I know for a fact I would absolutely hate it.

Master of One seemed like it was set up to fail by the publishers. I enjoyed it and it hit an emotional note with me because I had just suffered a loss and the loving, sentient magical artifacts that "knew" their human would find them got me in the heartstrings. That being said, the story ends with almost no plotlines being properly wrapped up. It was marketed as a standalone but the authors were clear on Goodreads that they had at least another book planned that they would release in some form or other eventually. From my perspective it seemed like the publishers wouldn't sign off on a sequel unless book 1 did well, but how could it when readers were told to expect a one-shot? Edit to say that I wish you shipped to the US because I really like that edition of The Thorns Remain and since historical fantasy is my jam it might be a great read for me. 😘🌹

in case you decide to pick up the thorns remain, it was one of my favorite reads of 2023. it is not a romantasy or romance by any stretch of the imagination. the story is about grief, loss, relationships with family, friends, neighbors, finding your place in the world, and allowing yourself to believe in yourself. it is very, very slow, has lots of mundane tasks, and felt rather melancholy to me. i had the audiobook play along while reading the book and i wonder whether that improved my enjoyment. it made me stick with the slow and melancholy pacing. i was surprised at the not so great reviews on goodreads after i finished reading the book but, skimming some, soon realized that many readers were expecting a fae romance and others simply did not appreciate the very slow pacing of this story. i’m super excited for the author’s new book releasing in 2025! have a lovely day + happy reading! 💜

@@jennifer_left_a_comment Ooohhh You just sold this to me!!! 🤩I'm getting my history graduate degree (and library/info science, so I can be an archivist), and everything you just mentioned is ABSOLUTELY up my alley! One of my favorite books of all time is A Declaration of the Rights of Magicians, which is very much an examination of Enlightenment philosophy and the events surrounding French Revolution and England's debates on the Rights of Man if they were given a magical twist. High drama fae romance is fine, but I am HERE for the exploration and the introspection! Thank you, and happy reading to you too! (I'll also check out the 2025 book!) 💖
@jennifer_left_a_commentАй бұрын
@ i hope you’ll enjoy it! thank you for the recommendation! immediately went on my wishlist 🥰 the degrees and job you are pursuing sound fascinating, and i wish you best in luck to accompany your hard work! the aspect i always like best about vampire/immortal stories is them getting to live through the ages and being able to witness and live through centuries - how fascinating it must be to see people and places evolve! genevieve cogman has a trilogy (book 3 releasing in 2025) about scarlet pimpernell/the french revolution with vampires. the first book is scarlet and, so far, the only one i’ve read. it wasn’t as captivating but a fun read nonetheless. the fore- and afterword were the most interesting, though. have a lovely day + happy reading! 💜

I was looking to see if Wild was a clean brand in addition to being sustainable. For example, do they use artificial fragrances? I have been wanting to try, but they aren't listed on EWG, so I couldn't tell for certain.
